I learned the bass intro to that song not long ago. Very cool indeed.:chug:
Yeah, I've got two basses at my place at the moment (Both belonging to mates :p), my brother is playing bass these days too, which is cool (His snare is still broken :smash: ), for some reason he's adapted to bass faster then I have, I dunno, his fingers or something, but he's been playing the intro to My Friend of Misery, he gets it so good, I could kill him with envy :(

That bass intro isn't hard...

Chu 10-24-2006 06:43 PM

I dunno, tbh I haven't looked at it, I'm too busy playing Battery :p

Actually, I have a gp4 file called 'The Art of Cliff Burton', as the title suggests it's just ****en pro Burton lines, even has the solo for Creeping Death, on bass! I'm nowhere near playing that though.

It's easy enough for me to be able to play it and I'm a guitarist. I thought you were too? Or do you just play bass when there's one around?

And did you check out the backing tracks? There's drums and bass and they sound pretty good. Obviously noone from the drum forum are good enough to play them so no recordings from them.

Chu 10-24-2006 07:27 PM

I'm a guitarist, but I have weakness in my playing. I can do triplets and multiple string alt. pick runs fairly well, but most other things I seem to struggle with, the bass is for the left hand fingers (I figure if I can legato half as good on bass I'll be double as good on guitar, but haven't actually proven that theory yet :upset: ), and just things like right hand finger picking I find is easier on bass.

I'm not very good at chords either, not that a bass will help with that...

Well I noticed learning practically every Metallica song boosted my abilities when I'd been playing a year and a half so give that a shot lol

Really? U mean just the intros or the whole songs? If it really does boost your abilities like u say it does i'll learn some Metallica too i guess.

Every single note.

I have all the tab books and I was a Metallica FREAK back then. I also had all the time in the world and a huge desire to play guitar for as long as possible and I did just that by learning all their songs, covers included.

Some songs it was note for note, others I just learnt the basic framework and sight read them from the book when I played along with the cd's.

Obviously, I couldn't play it as well as them or anything but I still actually knew how to play each part, even if it was a little bit sloppy.

And yeah, it really did boost my ability a whole lot. I went from playing drop D stuff like Papa Roch mostly. Also Limp Bizkit and Kid Rock to playing Metallica stuff. By the time I'd been playing 2 years, Satriani stuff was kinda easy for me which is obviously a good thing. Then I moved onto Steve Vai, then Malmsteen, then Paul Gilbert blah blah blah.

 you are jokeing about compareing yourself to those guitarists, right?
He does some trippy walk on stage where he sort of just walks like a caveman :p

I think it's called a crab walk or something?

If you check YouTube you might be able to find some videos..

I'm getting more excited about a new album (In particular with Rob!), been listening to Self-titled lately. I'm hooked on My Friend of Misery, the vocals, the bass, the drums, the guitar.. Holy **** perfection.
Chu 10-25-2006 05:18 AM

How is he comparing himself?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SlW0gGsSPsU
That's a wicked intro.
