MBS, did you ever review Concert for George? I want to read it if you did.
I wrote half of it, I'm going to finish it today or tomorrow, depends how late I finish this fucking formal lab for Chemistry.

MidnightRider 01-12-2006 07:52 PM

Are you in college Robo? If you aren't, it's pretty cool that your high school has a class like that.

JonG 01-12-2006 07:55 PM
I didn't do anything special music related today that I can remember. But I do start my History of Pop Music in America course in a couple weeks. The guy who teaches is it is a really cool hippie, and the kids who took it this semester said all they do is watch Allman Brother concerts and stuff like that. I can't wait. It'll be awesome.

Frank Zappa is freaking wierd.
What a sweet class. And I'm stuck here.

Ugh.

Frank Zappa is awesome*

I'm a junior in high school. Yeah it's sweet, I can't wait to take it. It's the first and probably the last time my school will offer it.

And for the most part, I like Zappa but some of his stuff is just too wierd for me.

Phallus Dei 01-12-2006 08:05 PM

Any calls for numero uno drummer? We all know its going to be a Classic Rock drummer, I mean how could it not be? Peart? Baker? Bonham? Watts (:P)? And that drunk from that other band.

robo2448 01-12-2006 08:14 PM

I want Baker or Moon. I can never pick between those two. I've been on a Cream binge recently, but I'm still undecided between those two.

Bonham will probably win. I admit he's a great drummer even though I hate Zeppelin. If Lars Ulrich wins...

clown_phobia 01-12-2006 08:14 PM

Keith Moon, John Bonham, Mitch Mitchell, Nick Mason, Ginger Baker are some of my favourites
Nirvana isn't that bad :upset:
I do not listen to Nirvana, but I always felt they got a bad reputation because of their fans. If it wern't for their fans hailing them as the greatest band ever when its so far from the truth people wouldn't be so crul to them. I think they are a decent band overrated by their fans, overly abused by everyone else.

The only thing I really disrespect about the group is Cobain's suicide. Its a tragedy yes, any loss of life in any way for any cause is a tragedy no matter who it is or what they have done. But he was a voice of a generation and a hero to many and he knew it. I know he had a lot of personal problems and was really ****ed up at the time but he abandoned those who called him a hero.

And I hope Keith Moon wins, hes my favorite drummer for so many reasons. A drummer could play Toad with his **** and I'll still like Moon more.

clown_phobia 01-12-2006 08:19 PM

Moon FTW :thumb:

MidnightRider 01-12-2006 08:21 PM

I really want Keith Moon to win, but Bonham probably will. I suppose he wouldn't be that bad of a choice.

clown_phobia 01-12-2006 08:26 PM

Yeah bonham is really good but I prefer moon. He just seems to be more energetic when playing live.

pigonthewing82 01-12-2006 08:33 PM
Yeah bonham is really good but I prefer moon. He just seems to be more energetic when playing live.
Yeah thats one of the things I love about Moon the Loon, I've only seen the Isle of Wight(speaking of the Isle of Wight clips of Pinball Wizerd and Magic Bus on the music section of ondemand) and its great I love watching him. I heard he didn't only do that live, but while they recording in the studio as well, his energy never stopped.

Glitterati 01-12-2006 09:36 PM

We watched a Skynyrd DVD in guitar class today, of them doing Freebird. It was like twenty minutes long, too

I always hear about schools that have guitar classes. That would be so cool. I wish my school had that, but we are lame. Actually I think its because we are to small to have classes like that. How big is your school?

MBS 01-12-2006 09:51 PM

Ugh, finished my chemistry paper. My head hurts.

NP: A Day in the Life - The Beatles

I'll probably finish my review tomorrow, I just wanna wait tonight.

6stringed 01-12-2006 09:54 PM

I was just listening to "Moby Dick" I love Bonhams solo its awesome.

Keth Moon is a crazy son of a b*tch on drums. Animal(Muppet Show) totally suites him

HazMan 01-12-2006 09:55 PM

Listening to Led Zeppelin 3, dunno why its taken me this long to love it.

A little over 1600 kids, and then there's staff.

robo2448 01-12-2006 10:07 PM
A little over 1600 kids, and then there's staff.
Wow my school's like half that size.

I've just been sitting at my computer the last like 3 hours instead of finishing my English paper. I'm bored. I started a top 100 bands lists on RYM. That's how bored I am. It sucks. I love making lists but I never get them right.

MBS 01-12-2006 10:22 PM
I've just been sitting at my computer the last like 3 hours instead of finishing my English paper.
Finish it. I swear to God, you'll feel so much better.

Krabsworth 01-12-2006 10:25 PM

I want John Densmore to win the Drummer comp. because he brought a very unique approach to it in rock music, and is one of those drummers that actually radically change the bands sound. If you take out the drums to a doors song, and just put in a simple rhythm, the song changes so much.

Illmatic 01-12-2006 10:27 PM

Also, another belated piece of advice to BigTrav (I think he's the one getting knee surgery): Crutches are a chick magnet.
Also, another belated piece of advice to BigTrav (I think he's the one getting knee surgery): Crutches are a chick magnet.
Only to a certain extent....if you know what I mean.

Illmatic 01-12-2006 10:31 PM

I don't follow.

Casts = sympathy = sympathy lovin'

Edit: Have you noticed the trend of rap artists sampling Ray Charles songs?

RockAndRoll 01-12-2006 10:32 PM

I can't chose between all the drummers. I can never make a definite choice.

Fnnrqwin 01-12-2006 11:59 PM

NEWS FLASH

I'm alive. I'm working on a chemistry project right now but it's hard as hell. God I hate chemistry. In other news, yes it would be awesome to have a guitar class at my school. We have 3000 kids, but we have so many wiggers that I don't think the 'cool' kids would support it, and that's all the school cares about...

PinkFreud 01-13-2006 12:11 AM

there are some STUPID people in my rock music class. these girls sitting behind me didnt know what a record label was, who the rolling stones are, and when a clip of ray charles playing "i've got a woman," they said "THAT'S A KANYE SONG!!!!11" and they were serious. no lie.

i'm shocked at how few drummers people are nominating. there were more bassists nominated than drummers which is odd. i really hope moses lets cobham and morgenstein in, even though morgenstein wont get any other votes.

gmoneyguy 01-13-2006 12:13 AM

Im studying to be a guitar teacher, maybe ill teach one one of your schools.

My old highschools had guitar classes. My school class only had beginner (I plan to take over the guitars classes there when I graduate). And the other school I went had begine intermediate and advanced. We watched many a DVD in those classes. In Virginia we also had jam days when we brought in our equipment.

Nice.:thumb: That's actually my favourite Zep album.

Just be thankful you actually have a rock music class.:upset:

Most people arent familiar with drummers, its mostly guitarist and vocalists that get the fame.

Leper 01-13-2006 01:05 AM

Yeah, personally I don't know that many drummers, and even if I did, I don't have a good enough knowledge of the instrument to really have a worthy opinion of who's better than who.

Seafroggys 01-13-2006 01:05 AM

i sure hope Keith Moon winds....

but I would be happy if Ginger Baker, Ian Paice, Ringo Starr, or Mitch Mitchell wins, though all those 4 aren't nearly as popular as Ulrich, Moon, and Bonham.

Leper 01-13-2006 01:27 AM

I suppose I'd be happy if Moon wins, but this poll really doesn't matter that much to me. He's so fun to watch though.

PinkFreud 01-13-2006 01:47 AM

i'm like the only person who nominated a huge list. i feel lame. haha.

Phallus Dei 01-13-2006 07:37 AM

Ulrich really isn't that popular on these forums outside of the Metallica fanboys. He'll do no better then James did in the vocalist poll.

PinkFreud 01-13-2006 12:33 PM

bonham'll beat out moon if it comes down to that though. the metalheads love zeppelin and the who is actually relatively little known outside this thread and the featured artist on them. i'm not dead set against bonham but i think there are far better drummers who could take that spot.

Lunch 01-13-2006 01:14 PM

Yea, this is true. Still, I would like Bonham, Moon, or Baker to come away with the win. A metal drummer probably has a good chance though, based on how the nominations are going.

PinkFreud 01-13-2006 04:46 PM

dead.

do you guys have any opinions on sufjan stevens? i like him a lot. i think he's a great songwriter and lyricist and shows a lot of potential.

Phallus Dei 01-13-2006 04:52 PM

Eh... he's not my favorite artist but decent enough!

I'm actually going for Peart as of now because I'm listening to "2112"
