metallicas style changes alot

Thrash Metal
Metal
Harmonic Metal
rock
kirk goes rap for a song
numetal
punk
What?

Metallica has always been a metal band, regardless of the style of metal. They've never been punk, although you could argue there are some punk influences. Saying Metallica is punk is like saying they're country because of Mama Said.

MRDuCran 10-09-2006 01:59 PM

Oh for fuck sake, can we just ignore Mr Sigma's bullshit??
For band reasons I have to learn Eye of The Beholder, it's actually easier then I thought it would be, but I've only looked at the first few riffs.
Yeah, one of the easiest Metallica songs, for me at least. The solo is sight-readable.

It is actually, it's surprising. I haven't learned it yet but it's not bad at all. I'm in the process of still getting that sweeping down in Leper Messiah. I'm also learning Disposable Heroes too.

MRDuCran 10-09-2006 02:09 PM

Ah the Leper Messiah solo, I love that. The trickiest part for me is probably the 4 note descending run after the sweeps, which are quite easy for me.

I haven't played Metallica in ages actually, I spend too much time with a metronome.

I was never very good at sweeping. I'm just trying to get it now so I don't hit too many open notes. I can hit the ones I'm supposed to hit very clearly it's just when I leave that string it's still ringing. I'm actually ok on the 4 note descending because Kirk does it all the time and it's usually pretty similar.

Me too, I've been learning Trivium's new Entrance of the Conflagration (which is amazing)
punk?
lol
lol
garage inc is pretty punky, tell me so what aint punk? Although is it a cover album. And numetal, possibly St. Anger?

I understand. You're talking about left hand muting, alot of people have the most trouble with that so you're not alone. I used to play that 4 note thing all the time too but to be honest with myself, it used to sound crap and now I'm obsessed with technique, I have to make sure it sounds perfect and I'm not at 180bpm with that lick just yet.

Pffft.. Metronome > Metallica :D
I'm obsessed with technique, I have to make sure it sounds perfect
I suffer this too, I won't say I've learnt something until I can play it through ten times cleanly (Usually with a metronome).

Hetfield's wail at the start killed it for me tbh.

MRDuCran 10-09-2006 11:46 PM

So how is everyone about Tallica bootlegs/live stuff??

Anyone collect all that?

Chu 10-10-2006 12:14 AM

Stuff from Cliff era, mostly just Cliff's bass solos/added effects in other songs.

I'm a huge Cliff fanboy :p

MRDuCran 10-10-2006 12:22 AM

Ah cool. I'm downloading a bunch of live stuff/demos now for the fun of it.

i love the effects cliff adds in the call of ktulu

Chu 10-10-2006 02:13 AM

I love his additions to Metal Militia and Leper Messiah the most tbh :)

MrSigma 10-10-2006 02:15 AM

the intro to damage inc is sweet

Chu 10-10-2006 02:20 AM

I read a MoP review yesterday, that said the intro is Kirk

metalhead_matt 10-10-2006 03:58 AM

lol how is the intro to damage inc kirk :p
been listening to the black album again, its been a while. its still a great album IMO, hope the new album can sound somethin like that.

MRDuCran 10-10-2006 04:15 AM

Doubt it...

I heard Holier Than Thou live for the first time today.

Looks like no drummers from MX are going to be helping out with this recording project then. Beatcraft, here we come.

metalhead_matt 10-10-2006 11:59 AM

what song ya doin on beatcraft? il record somethin, guitar-wise

we should try 'through the never'

MRDuCran 10-10-2006 01:01 PM

I'm not doing any song, it was just a saying. I can't seem to get my DKFH samples to sound like Meshuggah at all so I think I'm doing something wrong. I can upload a sample but they really don't sound that great tbh.

MrSigma 10-10-2006 02:22 PM

no it was definately cliff

Jev 10-10-2006 02:31 PM

It's in the MOP guitar tab book but I'm not sure who did it.

MRDuCran 10-10-2006 02:46 PM

I'd image it was cliff. Some weird effect and a volume pedal. Sounds way too thick/low pitched to be a guitar. Listen to the last note that's held on, that's not a guitar.

Joe 10-10-2006 04:58 PM

Holier than Thou has only been played like 4 times live. There's a website with all that information, but I can't find it.

Guys, can a bass even reach the pitches in the intro to Damage Inc? I can see it being both, but there's no way a bass can get that pitch and a guitar get that bass. I would have to see it to believe it if it was only cliff.

NP: Trivium - Entrance of the Conflagration

Chu 10-10-2006 08:34 PM
no it was definately cliff
I believe it's just guitar chords played on a bass, obviously with some distortion.
