While playing with your joystick?
That was implied.

To give this post meaning, I jammed with a friend of mine today, and I kept freezing up. I couldn't think of any riffs to play. Does this ever happen to you guys?

He ninja edited it in, he didn't get it at first heh. Hence it's non-appearance in my quote.

Let's get back to Sputnik for a minute.

So do my reviews suck or something? Be honest.

Anyways, I was planning on doing two reviews tomorrow. Should I try writing in paragraph form instead of track-by-track? It's just easier for me to write a number of sentences for each track instead of trying to incorporate the entire album into a small number of paragraphs.

I really can't say, as I haven't been to Sputnik in a very long time. I'd assume they would be well done.

Cain 04-28-2005 07:38 PM

Re: Sputnik reviews: I think I'm pretty good at objectively looking at albums as they compare to other albums in a band's catalog, and what's likely to be accessible to certain people as compared to how I view a particular song or band.

But Sputnik is full of crap, I think. My review for Nightwish's Wishmaster has only gotten one comment, a sentence-long bit, and the only review of mine that's gotten any attention (of course) is the one for "Blackwater Park."

What's the point of reviewing lesser-known stuff when the only thing that ever gets read are whatever popular clicks that show up all the time on the top 10 lists on the site, is my question.

Very intensive, minute-by-minute track by tracks is what I tend to do, followed by a summary of the album as a whole.

Trying to sum up the album without specifics is like reviewing a movie without mentioning the plot.

No, your reviews are good, I just think that a lot of people don't visit Sputnik.

I know I don't :/

lunch998 04-28-2005 07:40 PM

Thats why when I review albums for the other forums I do things like Led Zeppelin I and Pink Floyd things. And of course The Who.

The most frustrating thing for me about Sputnik is that I'll review these albums, and it'll take a good ninety minutes or so. I'll come back a week later, and I'll have one comment that's absolutely plain and substanceless (which is unfortunately representative of Sputnik as a whole, it seems). The only time I get decent comments is when I whore the links in this thread and ask you guys to comment on whether or not you read the review and thought it was good, even if you disagreed with the rating.

I hate it how I spend all this time writing, only to get minimal reviews.

Another issue that will piss me off is if the reviews are copyrighted by Jeremy once they're submitted. If that's the case, then I do not want to be associated with Sputnik and would accordingly want all my reviews removed.

That's the pain of Reviewing, people don't care what others say, they only care what they say.

I do CD reviews/Artist Profiles just because I enjoy it when I don't have much else to do. I like trying to express the music in words and communicating albums/people I really like to others.

As though they are Jeremy's reviews?

I understand, but why? I mean, just because they don't get enough exposure on Sputnik? Do you have career aspirations in the field?

Distant Echoes 04-28-2005 07:57 PM

I gave up on sputnik awhile ago. Its really frustrating to deal with for such little recognition...even after the review is submitted.

I don't think I've ever read one of your reviews. Once I finish this one, I will.

I hate not having my reviews read. I usually whore them. I have a tendency to do albums no one knows though or on;y a very few people on this site do so it's expected. I tried to find an album to review that would get lots of response but I couldn't find any I felt like listening to. In the end it was between a Melt Banana album or the Mare EP. Mare EP it is.

No no no, not any of that, although that is sound reasoning that I didn't think of.

I don't care about exposure or anything. Certainly, they are not newspaper-worthy or magazine-worthy or any of that.

I just don't like the idea that once I submit my reviews, they no longer become mine, so all that work goes right out the window for someone else.

I keep confusing you with Wintermute whenever I see that avatar. What is it of, out of curiosity?

See you later Dancin' Man.

To AntiHero: a lot of people have expressed a lot of displeasure at Sputnik. But Jeremy has probably expended a ton of work on it, and he hasn't been blind to people's suggestions. He's even included avatars and bigger font sizes next to people's posts to make it more forum-like. In many ways, the change of posting style in sputnik is much more inexplicable than anything else.

I mean, look at the way this site looks. Considering the fact that it conserves bandwidth on the forums, I'd be willing to cut Jeremy some slack since he's obviously busted his ***.

Jom 04-28-2005 08:21 PM

The thing is, I was one of the biggest advocates for Sputnik and tried to get more people to visit there, but to learn (recently) that my own work will no longer be considered my own as soon as I hit "Submit," that's just infuriating. Plus, Jeremy being a lazyass and not giving Med and Damrod moderating privileges is leading to an influx of horrible reviews, and the site is going to be swamped very quickly with them if he doesn't do something soon.

Distant Echoes 04-28-2005 08:30 PM

My avator is of Pulse...and i get that all the time. I found a pic i want to upload soon, but maybe latter.

and i agree with Antihero. Sputnik seemed like it worked wonders to me until i actually dedicated some time to it...the downsides really add up. Something should be done soon

And I fuckin' hate you, since ya know, you are immature as hell.

I have Bridge Of Sighs from Robin Trower, good album, but blues is not a genre I can listen to alot of. So from that album that I have, I consider him to be a great musician and vocalist though.

He's actually not singing, I thought he was too when I first listened. But yea, Bridge Of Sighs is extremely cool. I think it might be more favorable for the Classic Rock fans though. It definently rocks.

I don't know much about him, just that my dad turned me onto that album...

Hhahahahahh, wow, people take stuff way too seriously these days.

magicbus 04-28-2005 08:52 PM

It's actually the bassist, James Dewar, singing on Bridge Of Sighs.

There is a difference of being mature and taking things seriously.

Seriously, did you really need to make that comment a few posts ago? If you don't know who he is, why post such an inane comment that is based on nothing but your level of maturity?

Please fuck off and die twevle year old.

Thank's Magic

Is there any other albums he sings on other then Bridge Of Sighs?

Does he sing on other albums, or just that one?
To be honest with you, this is the only album I've heard of his, even though I'd like to get more. I thought I read somewhere that he's switched between a few vocalists, so he probably doesn't sing at all.

Jom 04-28-2005 08:57 PM
Does anyone talk to Mx or does anyone know when the last time he took care of musicianforums or sputnik?
mx is on somewhat regularly, but I guess it's just that I would try to make sure that certain things would be taken care of first before tackling another project. But I have no room to talk, since I post here to begin with. It's just... I dunno, I guess I shouldn't care, but I'm getting tired of seeing shitty review after shitty review pour into Sputnik.

I left a rather incendiary announcement in the YSI thread, hope it gets the message across.

I truly wish I had the power to delete posts just in that thread. That's all I ask. I feel stupid when I ask Jelle to clean up that thread for me because that's a waste of his time, but I'm getting tired of the spam, and I certainly don't have the time or patience to link everyone to their requests, especially when the page is going to advance three or so pages everyday and me not being able to update in the manner that I want to.

Yea I read up on that as well. I guess he only saw one Hendrix concert in his life, and he really just admired Hendrix's passion for the music, not his playing style.

This guy rules the guitar man. I mean this stuff is excellent.
