Pics of the Starfire?
Really, it comes down to if you like the tone and feel of the Starfire more. I think the old Guild hollowbodies are cool, and harder to find than the Modulus, so I'd be inclined to go that way. |

I haven't played it yet, but I'll keep you posted. I'm just nervous that i'll regret getting rid of my workhorse. I've had it since I was, like, 14. |
Hello friends!
So, I come to MX with a quick question: I am considering trading my Modulus Flea 5 (my only fretted bass) for a 1967 Guild Starfire hollowbody. What do you guys think?
Install a ramp on your mod flea to improve playability. Then we can all laugh at you. And Raayl and do his patented "ramps look **** and do ****" rant. |

Then we can all laugh at you. And Raayl and do his patented "ramps look **** and do ****" rant.
It's playability is fine just the way it is ;) I don't want to rag on anyone, but sometimes I find the mods that people do just ridiculous. "Gary Willis does it so it must be epic win." My Mod is stock and works great for me. I must not be cool enough :/ |
Most mods are wank. If you pay a decent price you shouldn't need to waste time on mods. Ramps are faggy, but I love it when some poor, naive chap posts an "I'm thinking of putting a ramp on my bass" thread and everyone just jumps on them with 100 reasons why ramps are faggy and ultimately they get the hump and never come back to the board.

I couldn't agree more with the "most mods are wank" statement. I just don't get it. I mean, upgrading your stock pickups to Barts is on thing. Putting a ramp and a trem on a MIM Jazz is another. I guess the whole "spending money makes your happy" theory is alive and well. |
Much easier to just buy an expensive bass, instead. :p
|
Bass maintenance is a happy way to fill an afternoon. Maybe it's like that when you can't be arsed to do your intonation, but want something to do.

123 Message! Word to your mother. Are we still doing any of those? I've been gone awhile :P |
I think 123 is as old as the internet. Or at least as old as message boards that have a 3 character minimum for posting.

Bahahahhaa. Ah the good ole days. Back when MX was thriving with life. And reputation whoring. |
Man, is it possible to get a little more activity on the boards? I like a nice quiet board, but this sometimes gets silly.
Sorry watching house so going awol for a bit. |
Nah, man. This board is past it's heyday.

:( It's true. Back in my day (lawl) the casuals would fill up ridiculously fast, and everyone knew eachother on a first name basis. Isn't that right, Ben? |
Yeah, it is, for sure. I remember refreshing the page and another one would have already filled up. But I guess that's the nature of these things. Without the forums being connected to MX Tabs, we lost basically all of the flow of new posters. The review site still tends to get a few new people in here, but not as many, and most don't stay.

Reminds me of the dead flag blues. God speed you black emperor should reform and totally sample this thread.

Goddamn they're good. |
have you listened to any "a silver mt. zion"? It's basically godspeed but with a little more cohesive thread through the tracks and kinda conner oberst style vocals sometimes. Just as good as godspeed though

I don't think Efrim sounds anything like Connor, but yeah, I've listened to a couple of their albums. Some of it is better than others. I really like the moody "we're all fucked" sound of Godspeed more. |
Do you not think godbless our dead marines makes him sound a lot like conner at least for that track?
|
It's been like 2 hours since someone posted on this forum, and that was me. We need like a recruitment drive. Lets organise an infomecial.
edit - just realised that this is posting one GMT wintertime. So it's only 1 hour since last post. |

What do you guys think?
Not a fan of the hollowbody type basses, but for a 1967 bass in good condition with a decent tone, it sounds like a solid investment, especially if you can afford a cheapy $300 5-string to replace the Modulus (if you're in a situation that requires you have a bass, ie. band). |

That was my thought! The Mod won't increase in value as far as I know, the Starfires get more expensive every year. And it just got refretted, so it's in fine playing shape. In other news, I just scored an Ampeg BR2 and Ampeg Classic 410 cab for $350. Niiiice. |
I wish I was in the market for an amp rig...still havent needed to upgrade:(
|
eyyyyyy.
I never sleep, cuz sleep is the cousin of death. (Nas is the ****) |
I just busted my nut:mad:
...no, seriously, it cracked at the G-string and a piece about half a centimeter long came off...now I have no G string and I play on Sunday:angry: off to the guitar shop tomorrow |

(Nas is the ****)
Andrew, I cordially ask that upon receipt of this post you immediately retract your statement for the following reasons: - Nas is gay Please have this completed no later than July 8th, 2009 at 9pm PST. I thank you for your cooperation and understanding. Sincererly yours, Dave |
Dave,
As Andrew's legal counsel, I'm afraid it is not in his best interest to retract his former statement. It is a well-known fact that Nas is not gay, but Kanye West is. Proof: - Kanye likes fishsticks. Public accusations as such can lead to tedious periods of litigation and law suits for slander and libel. Thank you for voicing your concerns, however, Mr. Andrew and I must formally decline your request. Regards, Joe |

I have a bass that had that done to it, still holding strong 5ish years later. Refer any other questions to my lawyer. |
