All my stuff is borrowed from my parents. Im even taking it with me when I move out. They will get it back there just not in any rush for the moment.

As for weed, Im 18 and I have never done it. And proud of it.

Yeah, I'm not doing any drugs, don't want to. As for the headphones question, I sleep with headphones and it isn't that bad, unless I pass out while listening to music and then my headphones are on all night. Then it hurts when I take them off in the morning because my headphones are the kind that wrap around you ears.

My stereo is pretty good. I stole it from my mom, but she doesn't use it and she let me have it.

ghettoeddo 02-01-2007 10:56 AM

i've come to believe that weed isn't a drug.

but i think we've come back to discussing drugs rather than pink floyd and i apologize for that haha

Agreed.

I saw this weird video on youtube the other day called "Syd Barrett's first psychedelic trip." Has anyone else seen it? It's really weird and...seemingly pointless.

Surf 02-01-2007 12:42 PM

In terms of falling asleep to Floyd; I've fallen asleep to The Pros and Cons of Hitchhiking (Waters solo record, so there's a loose Floyd connection) which was really interesting, as the whole album is structured like a dream, so listening to it takes you over the course of the narrative in one 'night': really cool even if its not that great an album.

Yeah, I saw that. I thought it made know sense, so I stopped watching it.

Yield 02-01-2007 05:16 PM

I've been thinking of getting a Roger Waters album, any suggestions?

rippa32 02-01-2007 07:45 PM

Actually thats a good question, is his solo stuff anything like The Final Cut? If it is I wouldn't get any.

MattSharpIsCool 02-01-2007 07:55 PM

Most of it is nothing like the Final Cut...I'd say it more closely resembles The Wall, due to his solo stuff being freaking weird. I don't really know how to explain it other than weird. The songs are really in your face most of the time.

The lyrics could be more comparable to the Final Cut I guess.

Surf 02-01-2007 08:37 PM

Amused to Death

I rank it as high as WYWH, which is my favourite floyd.

Someone will probably disagree. I know alot of people don't like his solo stuff at all (Riva I think) but I like it.

Of the other two albums, Radio K.A.O.S. is probably next, followed by Pros and Cons... but there's lots of odds and sods on sound tracks and stuff.

MattSharpIsCool 02-01-2007 08:50 PM

I've got all three of his solo albums, and my favorite is Radio KAOS, but I would much rather just listen to a Floyd album.

David Gilmour solo > Roger Waters solo

I'm looking forward to Rick Wright's new album.

Surf 02-01-2007 08:57 PM

Gilmour just seems to me to be more generic rock.

I could pick up pretty much any Waters' solo track out of a line up as distinctly his, whereas I'd have a hard time placing Gilmour's tracks.

For example, Home from Radio KAOS is very dissimilar to anything floyd or Waters have recorded before or since, but On An Island could be just any rock ballad.

I haven't heard everything by Gilmour, but from what I have heard (On An Island/About Face/Some of the self titled) Its pretty normal rock music. Not bad, but not as distinctive or interesting as Waters' work.

MattSharpIsCool 02-01-2007 09:03 PM

I'm kind of boring when it comes to rock music, I guess. I'll take a pretty, bluesy guitar riff over a sound sample anyday.

I guess thats a big reason why I've always liked David more than Roger, even though I play bass. He just seems to be a lot more organic with his music. That, and he probably has one of the coolest rock singing voices ever.

Leper 02-01-2007 10:29 PM

Yeah Dave does have a great voice for rock.

Dave > Rick > Roger > Syd

rippa32 02-01-2007 10:59 PM

In terms of talent on that list I would agree. But I prefer listening to Roger, he put across emotion so well even if he isnt technically as good as David or Rick.

Leper 02-01-2007 11:06 PM

Yeah emotion is definitely Waters' strength. He delivers it in Mother really well.

MattSharpIsCool 02-01-2007 11:31 PM

Roger's singing makes Hey You a much better song than I think it would be otherwise.

Jim 02-02-2007 01:46 AM
In terms of talent on that list I would agree. But I prefer listening to Roger, he put across emotion so well even if he isnt technically as good as David or Rick.
This is why I love him. The emotion pours out of him with every song. I'd recommend Amused to Death if you were getting a solo album.

Speaking of the man himself - I saw him last night :smoke:

Fantastic quite frankly. The atmosphere was quite relaxed in the first half, but once the second set began (DSOTM) the place just went all a buzz! The frenzied audience were cheering and singing in unison, and people who were passively listening earlier were rearing up and going all girly. I also detected a hint of the wacky substance in the air during the introduction to Time, which was a flagrant (and fragrant) reminder to all that we were experiencing one of the most universally loved albums of all time in all it's live splendour (albeit, with only one/fourth of it's original creators).

While the flow of the performance stilted a little now and then, with the many video interludes slowing the pace during songs, the new arrangemants and re-imagining of the past classics (particularly Another Brick in the Wall pt2 and Set the Controls for the Heart of the Sun, which blew me away with it's almighty mid-section) plus Roger's presence itself was something I will remember fondly until he swings by Melbourne next time to do it all again :)

Plus I got a cool t-shirt :P

MattSharpIsCool 02-02-2007 01:56 AM

I hope I get a chance to see them live, even if it's seperate.

I'm sure Roger will have more tours in the future, but I dont know about David. Hopefully he does, too.

Does Rick ever tour?

Jim 02-02-2007 02:13 AM

I think he's tagged along with David before, but I don't know about any individual tours =/

I want to see David, also. Unfortunately you just never know whether he will or not, and whether he'll come to you or not :(

Whereas Roger seems to tour all the time :)

rippa32 02-02-2007 04:27 AM

Im going to see him monday, Im so excited.

Collis 02-02-2007 05:18 PM

I gotta wait until May to see Roger :(

rippa32 02-02-2007 09:09 PM

Yes well theres probably lots of bands you see us Aussie's don't see at all.

Jo Shoe Wah 02-02-2007 09:32 PM

Set the Controls For the Heart of the Sun was amazing aye.

What'd you think of Leaving Beirut?

Surf 02-02-2007 09:42 PM

I don't like Leaving Beirut. didn't see it live, but the single isn't my thing. the spoken word passages are alright, but the chorus is just not as sophisticated as his usual commentary, and his lyrics really turned me off the song. I liked 'to kill a child' much better.

Danger Bird 02-02-2007 10:07 PM

I don't think I've ever heard any solo Floyd stuff besides the song On An Island.

Riva 02-03-2007 01:43 AM

Hehe, Riva loves Roger Waters, hence my buying of the In The Flesh DVD and CD set.

And in terms of solo, I'd rate their careers thusly: Rick > Roger = Dave > Syd > Nick.

PsychoTronn 02-03-2007 02:41 AM

have any of you guys heard the song "cluster one" off division bell? i love how pink floyd gives that eery feeling to their songs that almost makes you scared but it sounds so good at the same time

rippa32 02-03-2007 05:48 AM

Does Nick even have a solo career?

Apocalyptic Raids 02-03-2007 06:40 AM

He has two solo albums, sort of.
