The Neurosis album is good but they break no new ground whatsoever.
I agree its good stuff, more straightforward i find than usual, alright though! |
Speaking of epic, I need to hunt down the latest 3 Doomswords.
Let Battle Commence is sooo ****ing good, get that now! |
Candlemass' From the 13th Sun has been playing continually for the past few days now... I'm sure you've all checked it out, but if not, its some of the best stoner/groovy-type Doom I've ever heard and I highly recommend it. Its very very Sabbathy. Its not as epic as their other stuff, but incredibly heavy.
I just kinda felt like expressing my love for this album. :smoke: |
Check your rep, Jondur.
I like From the 13th Sun, but a lot of people don't. |

Por que? Not traditional enough, or different vocals, I assume? |
Probably because it's not Messiah on vocals.
|
Well neither was the first album and everyone seems to enjoy that.
|
Nightfall is better than Epicus... except the song Solitude.
|

A lot of people say it's no good too...which leads me to believe that those people are ****ing nuts. |
NP: Candlemass - Mirror Mirror
This actually is pretty good, although Nightfall still slays it. |
It's the best song on Ancient Dreams.
|
anybody want to recommend me some good doom to start out with?

Saint Vitus - S/T Saint Vitus - Mounrful Cries Reverend Bizarre - In the Rectory Of The Bizarre Reverend Trouble - Psalm 9 Candlemass - Nightfall The Gates of Slumber - Suffer No Guilt Penance - Spiritualnatural Pentagram - Relentless Warning - Watching From A Distance Solitude Aeturnus - Into The Depths of Sorrow |
My first Doom album was the Pentagram best of Turn To Stone (or something like that) I usually never buy best of's but that was cheap and had a fair few songs on it. If you can find it I do recommend it as an intro, also anything by Candlemass or Saint vitus.
|
If you want something a little more accessible that's still classified as doom, pick up some Swallow The Sun. The Morning Never Came and Hope are terrific albums.

Jondur, that link should be good for another month or more. |
thanks for the list dude. and i have some swallow the sun already.

Anyone like Witchfinder General? I'm ****ing worpshiping them now.
|
Parts of Death Penalty are excellent.
|
Both of their albums are great. The live album sucks though.
|
Death Penalty is brilliant. I like the Soviet Invasion EP too, the live version of R.I.P is much better than the album version in my opinion.
PA?
yeah I love them. I'll put up with bluesiness if the other parts are good enough to merit listening. |
Anyone like Witchfinder General? I'm ****ing worpshiping them now.
Yeah, they're awesome. I've been listening to Sleep - Sleep's Holy Mountain lately. I think I'm getting sleepy though from all of the laidbackness of it. |
PA as in Pagan Altar?
|
Anyone like Black Bile?
|
no
Solitude Aeturnus is growing. |
I've been listening to Doomsword's self titled a lot lately. Really great, I love it.
I'm waiting for Resound the Horn to come into the mail, now. I heard one song, and if the rest of the album is going to be like that, I'll be happy. |
I'm listening to some Reverend Bizarre now, In The Rectory is classic, but I must say I'm a bit reluctant about buying the new album.
A doubleCD might be a bit too much of the same for me. |
