I consider.
STFU.
I've watched my patch jeans at least a dozen times. they're sewed on with normal thread.

Ninja EDIT: And the patches never frayed or came off.
Do you have the patches sewn around the edges? because that's definitely a factor.

Yes. Around the edges.

Well I think you know what I mean. It's not just a piece of cloth sewn onto your pants, but rather a piece of cloth stitched around with a sewing machine and then hand-sewn onto your pants.

No way. Just regular double-threading through-back'n'out sewing.

On just any old material? That's pretty amazing that it actually stayed.

coheneran 11-15-2005 09:13 PM

<<<<<<<<< Good stitcher.

coheneran 11-16-2005 05:53 PM

I found a cute stencil on eMule, don't know who takes credit for it though.

RudeBoyStompin 11-16-2005 07:47 PM
Course it does. Punk DIY is a political statement, as is stealing from Tesco's.
The Subhumans are a punk band, as is the Dead Kennedys. That doesn't mean I'm going to discuss DK in the Subhumans thread. The DIY thread is about DIY goods and services.

Yes, if you work for B&Q. Punk DIY is about not having to rely on the 'system' to provide you with goods. That's a political statement, I would think.

What's B&Q?

I never said DIY wasn't a political statement. I'm saying that this thread is not about political statements. If you want to post about stuff related to political activism then there's probably an appropriate thread somewhere.

So what's this thread about if not to help each other by sharing our DIY knowledge? Which you just admitted was (in this context) a political statement. B&Q are a British DIY chainstore, they sell saws, nails, wallpaper etc..

RudeBoyStompin 11-16-2005 08:04 PM

Sharing DIY knowledge would be like sharing tips on how to make patches or t-shirts and whatnot. I don't see how stealing in order to make a political statement has to do with how to make your own goods.

But whatever, arguing about this is defeating the purpose of eliminating spam.

Fair enough. I submit.

Brain Toad 11-16-2005 08:09 PM

This thread's main purpose was orginally for asking questions related to anything do it yourself, including but not limited to fashion, hairstyling, vandalism, and every day life stuff.

Now hairstyling has been eliminated, the others still are discussed. The main feature is still fashion and clothes, but questions about vandalism, stealing, and living your life the free way (freeganism has been brought up a couple of times) is not discourged nor off topic.

Yaaay, I win. As the name implies, freeganism is mooching?
Yaaay, I win. As the name implies, freeganism is mooching?
Pretty much. It's name is based off of veganism, because its a way of fighting the meat industry while still eating meat, because you arent supporting it with your dollars etc. But it goes beyond that. Google it.

(r)evolution 11-16-2005 08:20 PM

speaking of vandalism, me and my friend were thinking of going on another political tagging run. any stories/tips on that?

coheneran 11-16-2005 08:24 PM

Wow I googled it. It's pretty awesome.

ARGH! Be like a spy! Constantly check for people and CCTV. ESPECIALLY CCTV. It's so easy to be caught out.

(r)evolution 11-16-2005 08:28 PM

last time i was caught, i sprayed "free the congo from shell's grasp" on the shell near me. yeah lame, I know

carry a piece of blank cardboard on you (2feet by 2feet or so) and if a pig stops you and starts asking questions, say you're going on a mini-demonstration and it's going to be a placard.

RudeBoyStompin 11-16-2005 08:42 PM

Since we're on the topic of graffiti does anyone here actually do graffiti art/street art? I really want to become a street artist. I've been making designs but putting them on the streets isn't really going to be doable while I'm still living with my parents.

don't show anyone your designs. i have plenty of friends who are streetartists (a few of them are awesome hip-hop artists as well) anway, keep them between you and a close friend or two. Then, go around at night 11 or so wearing black hoodies and no other distinguishable characteristics (a mohawk showing or coloured hair for example). Wrapping a bandana around your mouth is also a good idea. It keeps the fumes from hurting you and makes you harder to be recognized. When its all done, ditch the cans by blowing them up or bring them back but if the fuzz has reason to believe its you and get your parents to agree to a search and they find the cans, your through.

Anarcho Poser 11-16-2005 09:23 PM

And wear latex gloves.

coheneran 11-16-2005 09:24 PM
And wear latex gloves.
And if you see a CCTV cam low enough to spray into and it's not facing your way, spray into it!

RudeBoyStompin 11-16-2005 09:30 PM

Yeah I've only shown a couple of people my designs who I trust know how important it is that no one else knows about them. The one thing is that I would do stencils and the designs I want to do are life size so my parents would know that they're not for a t shirt. Though I suppose I can make them in secret and hide them until they're used. After spraying them I'd probably destroy them. Ideally I'd want to do them in the middle of the night and sneaking out of my house isn't really an option because my mom works at night and often stays up til 5. I think it will be easier when I can drive, it'll probably lessen my chance of being caught by cops and will better enable be to work outside my immediate community. Don't crap where you eat, y'know.

I'll probably end up waiting until I go to college to do a lot of work. Less complications to worry about.

Also a bandana protects from particles but not fumes/vapor. You need a respirator for that.
