ok ok, i admit it, i'm a classic rock nut. i love led zeppelin, the beatles, the who, eric clapton, the doors, and so on. most of the bands i listen to broke up years before i was born. at 17, nearly every song on my playlist is older than me. but is it just my imagination, or is classic rock experiencing sort of a revival. i am running into an increasing number of classic rock fans my age. at my school (an all boys high school), the school newspaper took a poll of everyone's favorite genre and band. led zeppeling got 5th and the beatles got 6th, behind that rap crap. classic rock made up a large percent of ppls favorite genre. is this just by me, or are other ppl noticing this too?

This is the thread for general classic rock discussion.
Not sure if this was said but not reading through 53,000 posts. Todays music F U C K I N G BLOWS HUGE DONKEY DICK. Thats why the new rock radio stations are shuting down (at least in my area) so people are forced to listen to the classic rock stations. then they are saying "hey yea i really like this" or "damn i forgot how cool this was". That's why it's coming back. It's been hapening for 3 years now. Then you get crazy hybrid bands liek the vines or some sh!t. Don't particularly care for them but thats basicly where the new generation of music is headed. Crunchy punk

brianmcleod237 01-08-2006 08:31 PM

Thats how it is here. Its so awsome how people like the classic rock instead of rap and pop rock and stuff like that.

ATM 01-08-2006 08:41 PM

Just stop talking.

pigonthewing82 01-08-2006 08:45 PM

I would rather not have classic rock come back. It was here, it went into decline, and faded away. I would rather have a new style of music come about rather than recycle something that has faded away.

Seconded.

BigTrav415 01-08-2006 08:57 PM

I love the great description in the last first-post-quoter's post, now I have a great image in my mind when I try to get to sleep tonight :)

When my dad was bringing me back to Rocky Mount tonight from Wilmington (2 1/2 hour drive), we had a great conversation about CR, we were talking about the Who touring this year and stuff. It was pretty cool.

Funny, my estimate would be that this thread is 2-3 years old. We've kind of moved past the first post in 53,000 replies, but welcome to the forums.

CCR is the greatest driving music ever.

George Harrison is the best walking-through-the-woods music. Really, put on ATMP when you're hiking, it's like sex.

ATM 01-08-2006 09:21 PM

Jaga Jazzist is the best for driving.

Actually, I should try that. It doesn't surprise me that George's music would be most enjoyable in a natural environment. A lot of his songs are so spiritual and about natural beauty and such that I'm sure listening to him hiking would be an awesome experience. I should try that sometime.

Yes, you should. According to my religion, if I am able, I have to make a pilgrimage to Bron-Yr-Aur, so I plan to hike from the airport to there through Wales, so that should be pretty good traveling music for that.

BigTrav415 01-08-2006 09:35 PM

Is John Entwistle's solo stuff good? I'd like to hear his stuff, he was a great bassist. What a tragedy.

Lunch 01-08-2006 09:36 PM

Weekly charts:
1 Emerson, Lake & Palmer 34
2 King Crimson 25
3 George Harrison 19
4 H.P. Lovecraft 16
5 Gentle Giant 15
6 John Entwistle 12
7 Silver Apples 11
8 Phish 10
9 Love 9
10 Grateful Dead 8

For once I actually feel like this thing worked.
Is John Entwistle's solo stuff good? I'd like to hear his stuff, he was a great bassist. What a tragedy.
It's pretty solid overall. A guy with talent like his and a nose for good rock music is bound to make some good stuff. I got his 2-disc anthology with a lot of good material and some Who covers with great bass playing. I'd like Freud's opinion about it though.

ATM 01-08-2006 09:38 PM

Which Crimson albums you been diggin, Lunch?

Lunch 01-08-2006 09:40 PM

ItCotCK, as usual, but I recently bought Discipline and acquired Red.

I recently got a Who live album from their last tour with John, its great his solo in 5 15 is amazing. Its such a shame once they reach the age he did you think they got past the overdose :upset:

And just wondering what religion are you that requires you to make a pilgrimage to Bron-Yr-Aur I've never heards of that.

ATM 01-08-2006 09:46 PM

ITCOTCK is my favorite. I never really got into Discipline, or any of the 80's stuff for that matter.

I do like "Dinosaur", though.

You'd be surprised how much good music there still is nowadays. The Arcade Fire, Sufjan Stevens, The Decemberists, Broken Social Scene, Iron & Wine...it's important to keep your mind open.

BigTrav415 01-08-2006 10:04 PM

I still am looking to find good bands that are actually recording in-studio right now (The Who, ABB, all them are still touring, so they don't count). I've heard that bands like Porcupine Tree and Primus are awesome, but I have yet to hear anything by them.

ATM 01-08-2006 10:05 PM

I've seen Porcupine Tree twice. Very good shows.

Eric Clapton. Cream

I want to buy albums by Cream and Eric Clapton. May someone suggest their best albums. That would be appreciated. Thanks.

Leper 01-08-2006 11:24 PM

I don't know that much about them but I always hear people "cream"ing their pants (see what I did there?) over Disraeli(sp?) Gears and Fresh Cream.

Seafroggys 01-08-2006 11:36 PM

Hodgetts 01-08-2006 11:40 PM
