no, we live somewhat close to ech other though.
Hmm... what part of Michigan do you live at?

/carries on from last page...

I play guitar and viola. I can also play bass and drums, but I dont those instruments. I really wanna learn keyboard someday...

ATM 01-07-2006 02:58 PM

I play guitar, keyboards, and cello :)

BlackDeathMetalJazz or really ANYTHING else please- 01-07-2006 03:25 PM

I play guitar and I'm getting used to playin' bass.

I haven't even tried rounding up a band though. Drummers are almost impossible to find, everyone plays guitar...

thickasabrick 01-07-2006 03:50 PM

I play guitar, and I am pretty good at bass although I don't actually have a bass at my house. I also played piano for several years, I still mess around on the organ a lot but it's mostly experimental stuff. I also play harmonica.

I've played in bands before, but everyone I jam with has such a different idea of what kind of music they want to make. My music is too "out there" for most of the people I've jammed with.

My dad's friend has a recording studio and he always asks me to come record, I think after highschool (not too far away!) I'm going to record an album. I have enough decent songs to record a full length album, but it would basically just be a collection of random folk, rock, and blues songs and I can't imagine it sounding very great as one album. I'm gonna wait and record an album with all new songs, or maybe just one really long song...that would be cool. When I record something, if we all still visit this site, I'll post it!

That's pretty cool. My bass teacher has a studio at his house, so twice a year he runs a camp where each student pick a song they want to learn and he'll teach to a couple people on each instrument. Then, we go over to his house and over the course of two days record and mix the songs. I may try and post some of my stuff from the latest camp after I get the CD.
I play guitar and I'm getting used to playin' bass.

I play guitar. I don't own a bass but I can play it well cause I often borrow my friends' bass. I started playing harmonica a few weeks ago. I used to play clarinet and trumpet for school band, haha..

pigonthewing82 01-07-2006 04:17 PM

Yeah drummers are very hard to find, there are about 2 or 3 in my school. I would love to start a band but too few people play what I play. When I have jammed with people and I start with the guitar solo after about 30 or 45 seconds they say I've been playing for too long. Long jams have become a lost art in my school hopefully I'll meet some more open minded people in collage.

PinkFreud 01-07-2006 04:43 PM

i live in farmington hills. its like 30 minutes from detroit.

the jam went well. he's a good guitarist.

WelcomeToTheMachine 01-07-2006 04:53 PM

I guess i lucked out, one of my best friends is a drummer who likes almost every single band i do, we share the same idea that we want in a band, its pretty awesome.

WelcomeToTheMachine 01-07-2006 05:25 PM

  ^

Does anybody like the Genesis i sent out? cause im bored, and ill do some more.

BassDude771 01-07-2006 05:31 PM

Genisis is alright... 70's is a kick *** era..i can listen to about almost any rock back then..

RockAndRoll 01-07-2006 05:46 PM

I'm lucky I don't have the drummer problem.... because I am one :p.

thickasabrick 01-07-2006 05:56 PM

My brother plays drums...although he prefers hand drumming (or whatever). He plays the djembe in a band, they are pretty good. They sound kinda like Sublime, but with more of a reggae type rhythm. I know lots of drummers, but they are all too closeminded, currently in a band, or are jackasses.

Ya it might just be because I am a drummer but I do know alot of drummers. However I wouldn't nessecarily reccomend them to someone looking to start a band.

Hand drums are cool. I'd get some if I could afford them, we have some congas and bognos at school, but no djembes or anything.

Glitterati 01-07-2006 06:21 PM

Death Cab For Cutie is pretty sweet, as someone said on the last page.

Got some cds out of the libarry today:

New Order - Substance
John Mayall & The Bluesbreakers - Road Dogs
Jackie Wilson - 20 Greatest Hits
Mott The Hoople - All The Young Dudes

I love Mott The Hoople

np: Iron Maiden - 2 Minutes To Midnight

JonG 01-07-2006 06:37 PM

What album do you suggest I get from Death Cab?

My copy of Road Dogs is signed my the man himself :)

I've heard their new one, Plans, is quite good.

I only have the Forbidden Love EP.

clown_phobia 01-07-2006 06:55 PM

I really like the idea of that forum band - I'm really keen to participate on guitar. I can also sing a bit but im not very good at it... I can though

*blushes*

It was a really good jam, you guys were both good too. I was definently feelin it.

So I'm in my dorm room now. Time to put up some posters :)

Glitterati 01-07-2006 07:13 PM
So I'm in my dorm room now. Time to put up some posters :)
Oh, what posters?

I got a huge Life Of Brian poster for Christmas

The Photo Album is my favorite. Not a big fan of Plans. I'd actually skip Death Cab and get Postal Service they are more interesting.

transatlantacism, the photo album, or the forbidden love ep. plans is ok but not up to the standards of the others.

bus, it WAS a good jam. surprising actually since id never really jammed with either of you before. cool.

the posters were the hardest part. we only had scotch tape.

edit: only about half of the postal service's album is excellent. the first 5 tracks or so. the rest is expendable.

Nice posters. I have the Let It Be one too

pigonthewing82 01-07-2006 07:34 PM

My cousin just infomred me that he downloaded a version of Ring of Fire onto his Ipod with Johnny Cash and Bob Dylan. I can't wait to hear it they worked well as a team on Girl From the North Country.
JPJ: I have DP 22, it's pretty awesome. Great raw Dead.

The GD Movie Soundtrack is a really outstanding set, on a similar note. I found it used for around $20 which was completely worth it.
I'm listening to it again now. I think I like it better than Live/Dead, if only it had St. Stephen (but they hadn't even written it when this was recorded.)

Is that just the songs from the movie or are there ones that aren't on it?

I play bass, used to play drums, and I screw around on guitar a lot. That would be awesome to do a song with some of the regulars, but I still haven't gotten a mic.

NP: The Grateul Dead-It Hurts Me Too

clown_phobia 01-07-2006 07:41 PM

If we did the song, what song do you guys think we should do?

Glitterati 01-07-2006 07:42 PM

I have that Doors poster, it's a cool one. It's over my bed, Morrison watches me sleep

MBS 01-07-2006 08:28 PM
If we did the song, what song do you guys think we should do?
I was thinking While My Guitar Gently Weeps.

Broken Arrow 01-07-2006 08:45 PM
I have that Doors poster, it's a cool one. It's over my bed, Morrison watches me sleep
Haha, my friend has that poster in his room and that's where we always crash after parties or sessions and from my spot on the floor for sleeping it looks like he's constantly staring at me and it can get pretty disturbing.

clown_phobia 01-07-2006 08:45 PM
I was thinking While My Guitar Gently Weeps.
That's an awesome song - but if we didn't I couldnt participate because I cant play it :upset:

Broken Arrow 01-07-2006 08:47 PM

I can play it (rythym) but I'm not sure how easy it would be to put it together. It's not like it matters though because I dont have a mic.
That's an awesome song - but if we didn't I couldnt participate because I cant play it
haha I think you have one more contraction than you should have. I'm not being picky, i'm just pointing out how many contraction you have in your sentance.

MBS 01-07-2006 08:55 PM

You guys suck. Okay, offical CR poll. Who's got a mic, and who's willing to enter with me in the cover competition.

pigonthewing82 01-07-2006 08:56 PM
That's an awesome song - but if we didn't I couldnt participate because I cant play it :upset:
I know that I'm not part of this thing but if your covering the song you could just improv the parts you don't know. Just write your own part to it and see if it sounds good. In my opinion a good improv on a cover of a song is what makes listening to the cover worth it in the first place.

clown_phobia 01-07-2006 08:56 PM

I have a mic and I'm willing to participate

magicbus 01-07-2006 08:56 PM
You guys suck. Okay, offical CR poll. Who's got a mic, and who's willing to enter with me in the cover competition.
What's going on here? I can record guitar, but no voice (I left my mic at home). But me and Deus were going to do a song too. Don't know if that every went through...

EDIT: And I can play that whole song too. Studio and Anthology versions.

JonG 01-07-2006 08:57 PM

I need a decent mic. I know how to play that entire song. Atleast I did awhile ago ><

np: GD - High Time

Broken Arrow 01-07-2006 09:00 PM

What kind of mics do you guys use? Now that I have a job, I was thinking about buying a mic but I don't know anything about them.
