on a lighter note, did you guys see the new thread on the best rock/metal guitarists. the list is atrocious.
That gave me quite a pitter.

lol

I just got done eating Subway.

Harvest Cheddar Sun Chips are good.

'wired, I'll be glad to up some of those, or send them via AIM.

zabbit82 01-06-2006 07:34 PM

Subway + Sunchips = YUM :)

I gotta check out this list...

PinkFreud 01-06-2006 07:35 PM

so...did you guys know that hendrix tapped?

Broken Arrow 01-06-2006 07:44 PM

Yeah, I saw that in the Hendrix thread.

zabbit82 01-06-2006 07:44 PM

In what songs??

Wow... that best guitarist thread has to be a joke..

pigonthewing82 01-06-2006 07:47 PM
so...did you guys know that hendrix tapped?
Yeah I found that out too, I mean I guess I can hear it in the intro to Hey Joe at Winterland, I just never made the connection. It doesn't supprise me though, I think Hendrix probally tried most guitar tricks, even ones not popularized yet just fooling around.

robo2448 01-06-2006 07:49 PM
Subway + Sunchips = YUM :)
Good stuff:cool:

Although the barbecue chips are pretty good too. I have a Subway like a 2 minute walk from my house so I go there a lot.

The guitarist thread is just awful. I didn't even want to get involved in it, the threadstarter is a complete moron.

I'll upload some albums for you Livewired. I'll try to do Band of Gypsies tonight.

zabbit82 01-06-2006 07:50 PM

I wouldnt be surprised either, I just havent noticed it. What specific songs?

jpj 01-06-2006 07:50 PM
so...did you guys know that hendrix tapped?
No, I was unaware of this interesting tid-bit of information.

Wired, if you have any specific requests other than the ones already stated I'd be glad to help. Sucks man, the same thing happened to me a few months ago.

On a happier note, I just got Dick's Picks Volume 22 with a mall gift certicate I got for Christmas. When I looked at the tracklist I about creamed my pants, it's like all my favorite early Grateful Dead songs rolled up into one big bundle of joy. The show is from '68, I was really surprised to see a show from so early just sitting on the shelves of Sam Goody.

Disc 1:
Viola Lee Blues
Hurts Me Too
Dark Star >
China Cat Sunflower>
The Eleven >
Turn On Your Lovelight
Born Crosse-Eyed >
Spanish Jam (:D)

Disc 2 (different show):
Morning Dew
Good Morning Little School Girl
That's It For The Other One >
New Potato Caboose
Alligator >
China Cat Sunflower >
The Eleven >
Alligator >
Caution >
Feedback

Right now I'm 11 minutes into Viola Lee Blues and it's absolutely amazing. It doesn't seem anywhere near that amount of time has passed.

There's a subway in about a 10 minute walk from me, but its all the way across town. I dont go up there TOO often. But when I do its well worth it:)

And that thread is pointless. Its a waste of time, so dont try to get involved in it.

EDIT: That thread is about to close anyway....

NP: Aerosmith - Combination

It let me take out my anger on someone, so I'm satisfied. Don't post in it anymore though, I know when enough's enough.

Edit: Why was Ted Nugent on that 'Greatest Guitarist' list anyway? Ted Nugent isn't that good of a guitarist, anyway.

robo2448 01-06-2006 08:05 PM

Wow JPJ that setlist is awesome. What year is the performance from? I've always meant to pick up a Dicks Picks but they're so many that I don't know what to get. I guess I can't really go wrong with any live Grateful Dead though.

I'm downloading all the bootlegs that were sent out yesterday, thanks a bunch guys. I can't wait to hear them.

I'm uploading Band of Gypsies right now.

Yeah, those types of threads are always good once in a while...

Why he was on there... NO clue. I barely even listen to his stuff.

PinkFreud 01-06-2006 08:08 PM

the tapping is on the intro of hey joe at winterland. it really sounds like it. i was taken aback.

It's from '68. I edited it in to my post.

I'm browsing through the Dead's website, and you can buy all 36 Dick's Picks in a set for $650....if I had $650 I'd totally buy it.

Broken Arrow 01-06-2006 08:29 PM

I'd rather buy something else, but that would be pretty sweet.

Already has 4 GB back.

Hey guys, don't look at any of the news articles on Sputnik, it seems that Chad is trying to get hold of accounts via the articles.

Have you read the whole thread? It's pretty funny.

JonG 01-06-2006 08:43 PM

I never really bothered with the Dick's Picks TBH. I have pretty much all their albums up to when they stopped making them. Which is fine for me :)
I never really bothered with the Dick's Picks TBH. I have pretty much all their albums up to when they stopped making them. Which is fine for me :)
But the live stuff is the best! Everyone knows that! Plus there's songs that were never released on studio albums, and the Dead never played a song the same twice. I've heard a few live versions of songs that I wouldn't have recognized if it didn't have the title right there on my screen :p
Subway is soooooo good. *drools*
Quiznos is better.

Mmm, mmm, mmm, mmm, mmm...toasty.

MBS 01-06-2006 08:49 PM

I'm not too fond of Quiznos, I think Subway is a lot better.

What is everyone's favorite modern rock band? I'm just curious.

You know why? Because you're a filthy scoundrel and can't appreciate fine cuisine.

Favorite modern rock band, eh? Jam bands included? If so, moe./SCI/Widespread Panic/Gov't Mule, if not The Mars Volta maybe...

...or maybe Les Claypool and his 8 million incarnations. I don't know, I can't make these hard decisions.

PinkFreud 01-06-2006 08:55 PM

is jeff buckley modern enough!?

if not, death cab for cutie.

Glitterati 01-06-2006 08:56 PM
What is everyone's favorite modern rock band? I'm just curious.
There's a few. Probably Belle & Sebastian at the moment.

np: Styx - Mr. Roboto <<<< funniest song ever

MBS 01-06-2006 08:56 PM

Touche. :upset:

I like Radiohead, Phish, Red Hot Chili Peppers (if they count, well Californication and By the Way)... and Jeff Buckley. But he's gone. :(

jpj 01-06-2006 08:58 PM

Oh, yea Phish, can't forget about Phish. QoTSA is good too, and Jeff Buckley, Radiohead not so much.

JonG 01-06-2006 08:58 PM

Probably same as jpj, minus Mars Volta.

Derek Trucks and Robert Randolph spring to mind.

MidnightRider 01-06-2006 08:58 PM

I know this question probably wasn't directed at me, but Porcupine Tree. :thumb:

WelcomeToTheMachine 01-06-2006 08:59 PM

Anybody here like the early prog Genesis? ive really been getting into them, I finnaly got around to buying The Lamb Lies Down On Broadway and im amazed.

Anyone who doesn't appreciate the greatness of Derek Trucks obviously has no soul and/or is an alien spy.

I'd like to hear Selling England by the Pound or whatever it's called, but I haven't heard anything I don't think.

NP: The Grateful Dead-Turn On Your Lovelight

Was Butch Trucks Derek's dad?

Just a random thought.

I've been meaning to get into prog Genesis. Peter Gabriel and Genesis = sweet. Phil Collins = not so much.

The Smashing Pumpkins broke up a while ago, as did Rage Against The Machine, but those are also two of my favorite modern rock bands. Of course, I love Radiohead, Sigur Ros, The Mars Volta, Avenged Sevenfold, the Chilis, Tool, Fugazi....a lot of modern stuff, really.

MBS 01-06-2006 09:06 PM
Was Butch Trucks Derek's dad?
His uncle, I believe.

PinkFreud 01-06-2006 09:06 PM

he's his uncle. which is cool.

Broken Arrow 01-06-2006 09:07 PM

My dad got to see the Allmans when Duane was alive :o

/random

I could add Calexico to my list, although I've only heard Convict Pool.
My dad got to see the Allmans when Duane was alive
Give him access to your account and let him post a complete play by play on what happened. I want to know what notes Duane played, what direction Duane's sweat fell in and whether he had that huge beard or not.

PinkFreud 01-06-2006 09:15 PM

my dad saw the original mahavishnu orchestra.

favorite modern bands:
jeff buckley

jpj 01-06-2006 09:18 PM

My dad's seen the Allmans like a handful of times, I don't know when he saw them first though. It was definitely after Duane died though, my dad was only like a freshman in highschool when Duane died.
my dad saw the original mahavishnu orchestra.
Oh yea, well my dad saw Larry Carlton open for Kenny Loggins.

/weird

Ok, everyone post concerts their father has been too!
