I think its a rather accurate depiction of media, it's the entire depiction of government in it that's impossibly inaccurate

No. The mystical tree holds up a barrier that keeps demons locked in a parallel universe, Wil Ohmsford (who's only 1/8 elven tyvm) has to take the princess to a mystical font of fire so that he can take her back to the Elven capital where she'll be reborn as the mystical tree, gawsh.

And those other series take place way before that series, even though they're way more recent.

The story is that demons infiltrate humanity and make everyone nuke each other, and then people mutate into trolls and dwarves and such.

BTW, I just re-read the Elfstones for like my 666th time the other week.
