Lars is no where near a god of drumming BTW.
no not at all. there are alot better drummers then lars...i think even joey jordison could give him a run for his money. however, saying hes a bad drummer is completely false. Lars is a talented drummer, just not the best in the world.

naboo 07-05-2004 04:13 PM

Lars is pretty good but there are much better, check out Pete Sandoval from Morbid Angel (get the song "drum check"), or Mike Portnoy of Dream Theater, both amazing.

Did anyone ever mention that it was a funny thing for metallica to influence the sound of a generation of bands, only to listen to that new generation and ripp them off, producing St. Anger?

when_im_gone 07-06-2004 01:49 PM

have any of u guys ever tried learning the outlaw torn its pretty fun at least is to me :upset:

Squirrel 07-06-2004 01:51 PM

Yus, it's very fun to play - the solo is also so great when you can get it right - his cool slide effects with wah/delay/echo are just fascinatingly good.

int00bscurity 07-06-2004 02:26 PM

My favorite Metallica album must be ...And Justice For All. I also like both discs of Garage Inc.

Vai's_Jem 07-06-2004 02:35 PM

My favorite is also ...And Justice For All.

Squirrel 07-06-2004 03:06 PM

Garage Inc' - The Wait = AWESOME song.

Tenacious I 07-06-2004 03:17 PM

a long time ago, james had this white guitar with the words "EET FUK" on the side...
does anyone know what it means?

Is it just Eat and ****?, like in "eat, sleep and ****", or something else?

You can see the guitar in the "Binge and Purge" movie****

Baodegoth 07-06-2004 08:07 PM

i think eet fuk means eat fvck....there's not much to it really.

HeRoOfThEdAy1589 07-06-2004 08:22 PM

Jake02 07-06-2004 08:30 PM

Baodegoth 07-06-2004 08:33 PM
This thread has been awesome. I say the majority of people who have posted on this thread have been influenced and or inspired by Metallica or respect them one way or the other. I have. I hope people who have read this thread have opened their eyes or have gained a much bigger respect from it. Mcpheely right on bro getting a metallica album. Whether or not you like Metallica everyone who listens to metal or is listens to music must respect Metallica. Theese guys are on top for a reason. They are real, and ****ing have balls. They did what it took. Now that in itself should be inspirational for anyone who picks up an instrument, mic/lyrics or plays drums.
It's good to be among family :p

anyway let's continue with the thread...today i've listened to reload very carefuly, analysing(sp) almost every aspect of it....and it's a kick *** album tho i think load is better...i don't really get why ppl don't like these two albums?!...it's probably the thing i most respect metallica for...their ability to change their sound and not suck!imo. you don't see many metal bands taking this kind of risk...you could lose most of your fanbase for "doing something diferent"...i think they deserve all the love for that, you gotta have the balls to do it. Ppl don't understand that has a musician you can't do the same over and over again, you HAVE to change it's crucial for your career (and mental health  )...i'd go nuts if i played speed/trash metal for more than 20 years...but then again ppl don't understand it....oh well maybe someday they will, maybe someday...

BTW my favorite songs on reload are "carpe diem baby", "where the wild things are", "low man's lyric" and "fixxxer". ohh and "the unforgiven II" has the most amazing lyrics...it's very well written.

Dooflungerfletchface 07-06-2004 08:44 PM

Metallica is gay

vote_bush04 07-06-2004 08:53 PM

**** i hate them....kirk hammet is the worst guitarist since hendrix...cliff burton has ****ty bass solos ...there so easy to play..i play them with my barney magical guitar thing...band like slayer.van halen, blink 182 could **** it up the ***....metalica is the defnetion of err....uh..hm...metallica! any of yall who talk **** about them can suck my centimeter pener!! PEACE

redoutlaw 07-06-2004 09:15 PM

Like um or not, If you listen to metal you respect Metallica. They set the bar. Before it was Black Sabbath back then who basically was the **** that everyone listened to and the Metallica came in with a different sound and after awhile just blew top bands away like Van Halen, Metallica became the spotlight, and blew away up and comming bands trying to rise up like Armored Saint, that right there you must respect. People now-a-days don't appreciate ****. They'd rather listen to that nu-metal crap and death metal which is just a ****ing joke because nothing is original. But the thing is its funny that all the bands that you people listen to now, Respect Metallica, but yet moron people like Dooflungerfletchface say "Metallica's gay" What kind of **** is that? Dude your gay, let that be the last post you make.

Metallica did things that have been amazing to say the least. How many bands can play with a ****ing orchestra? Thats just ****ing awesome, like it or not. Personnally i wouldn't blast it out my car hearing Master Of Puppets and hearing violens in the back ground. But the point is I admire what they did. A lot of the greatest guitarists litened to classical and were ****ing awesome, Prime example, Randy Rhoads. YOU have to respect what they did with that, instead of it being gay.

How many ****ing hit songs did Metallica make??? Almost all of them are catchy as ****. amaore Great than satisfactory. I don't thing any of their songs is "bad", but satisfactory. The thing I admire most about them is that they always came back. After cliff passed, they came back. Drug and drinking problems, they came back. Look at the history of problems they had. They held together through Front Man James Hetfield. No other band in my opinion is as strong as Metallica, because no band has hung in there like they did and create such a ****ing Inlfuence from bands all over the world. James is a ****ing strong dude, with a take no prisoners attitude. Tell me what person that has been able to go through all that **** and still be ****ing standing tall.James held things together. The guy even pushed himself to sing so Metallica wouldn't fall apart. You gotta admire him. No other person could do that. Everytime people counted metallica out, they came back. So for people to open their mouth about Metallica is ****ing ridiculous. Get facts before you open your mouth and start bashing. People talk **** about them and yet some people don't even know anything about them, Because if anyone did know them because they've been a big root of Metals History, no comments would ever be made. You can't talk **** about a ****ing Icon band whose made hit after hit. Baodegoth said it great with the changing. Bottom Line, Metallica is #1 and thats no longer an opinion.

This thread has been awesome. Its not running out of steam. Lets keep it goin.

Six String Fiend 07-06-2004 09:18 PM

I don't like Metallica... their songs are just too simple and emotionless. I can see why they are so famous since their songs are catchy and are easy to relate too, but they are better at marketing than they are at playing. Metallica is just pop-metal ;)

Dude your a ****ing moron. Your like a ****ing parasite that i'm not even going to waste my time with. Obviously you know nothing about music and is jsut talking out of your ***. Simple and emotionless?? How much more of a dumbass *** can you get? Every line you've typed in more ridiculous and stupid than the other. Go to death metal where all the other ****ing people with no sign of intelligence go. Pop metal? give me a break......

Kirk-hammet 07-06-2004 10:09 PM

you ****in rock redoutlaw, i agree with everything you have said. I ****in hate death metal, sure some bands like opeth are ok, but the gay oo look at me im bad i worship satan and talk about killing myself, just gets annoying and stupid. and all the singer have to sing like they are satan asw ell, what the **** is that. Im hoping that me and my band could ever make it big, to bring back the good versatile metal that metallica is. Heavy, Fast, Slow, Melodic. Metallica does all those things, and thats one of the things that makes them the best. Go listen to you goodcharlotte six string fiend, because im sure that lyrics about ur gf dumping you, and girls sucking, are full of emotions... asshole

p.s. Kirk bring back the solo's!

TallicaChic 07-07-2004 02:47 AM

that guy dissing metallica has got to be one of the dumbest people I've seen on here...that's really sad. Emotionless?! Ha! I pity the fool! Especially if he ever finds himself in a dark alley with a couple of tallica fans..hehe

clown_phobia 07-07-2004 02:53 AM

seniledrummer 07-07-2004 12:40 PM

Hello!

I started a thread a long time ago and it got a really good response. I thought that sense the thread has dissapeared I would post it hear to preserve it. Sorry it's so long!

Are Metallica really becoming sold-out, nu-metal **** heads??

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Everyone around here apparently knows everything about metallica, how bad they are, and the reasons they suck. I'm glad you have an opinion, but many of you say biased things with no support behind it. So I would like to clarify some things so that we can finally really get down to the music.

They sold out
Metallica and every other band in the world has apparently sold their soul to corporate america. Metallica is coming out with a video game and a documentary on themselves within the next couple of years, and of course, they are not allowed to do that because you don't like it. My take on these things is that they do it because they can. If you had the oppurtunity to make a videogame how you liked it, with you in it, would you pass up the oppurtunity?
And then, oh god, they changed their style to fit in with THE music today. That makes no sense, they did it because they felt like playing different music. They had no need to do that AND JUSTICE was in the top 10 and THE BLACK ALBUM was number 1. They are doing what they feel like doing. They aren't trying to please you, they are trying to please their fans, and if you don't like it you aren't a fan, they aren't worried about you.

They are *** holes
I've heard people say this, and I have no idea where they thought of this one. If you have ever seen an interview or anything with any member of metallica, you would see that they are nice people who really care about what they are doing. They tour constantly and do many things for their fans which they are very recognized for. They say thank you and show deep appreciation at all their concerts. They have done 3 gigs in one day and are touring endlessly. Sure, right now you are putting the "sold out" label on them right now, because all they are doing is trying to make money right? Wrong! They have done many free gigs just to play. For example: They did a surprise gig at a tailgate party for the oakland raiders to support the team. Back during the black album era, they would play 4 hours every night, and trust me, they didn't have to do that, they aren't paid by the hour. At a concert a few years ago, James Hetfield was sick, so all the opening acts came out and jammed with the band, and then they gave everyone free tickets to another show. They certainly care about what they are doing.

The napster incident
When this happened, I questioned it myself. And everyone gave lars a ridiculously hard time for it. But really he did it for a good reason, and I think I can prove it with this.

If you would please read this, it shows Lars' argument to the senate about Napster.
http://metallica.com/index.asp?item=514

This is part of Napster's response to the settlement
http://metallica.com/index.asp?item=502

They are nu-metal
Everyone says that St. Anger is nu-metal. It has tuned down guitars, and every once in a while they play some chunky riff, and oh god, no solos. First off, they did try to put solos on the album, but it didn't sound right with what they wrote, so they decided not to. There are actually, very many, fast, old school riffs on this album. Sure there is some wierd stuff that I don't like, but what nu-metal band makes the majority of their songs 8 minutes long with no turntable and only 1 lead singer. I've not once heard them say they are nu-metal, or have any desire to be. And they have definitely gotten back to their roots to, this is their setlist on the summer sanitarium:

Battery
Master of Puppets
Harvester of Sorrow
Welcome Home (Sanitarium)
For Whom The Bell Tolls
Frantic
Sad But True
St. Anger
No Remorse
Seek and Destroy
Blackened
-----------------
Fuel
Nothing Else Matters
Creeping Death
----------------
One
Enter Sandman

All in all I am just trying to clear things up. Now maybe some of you will give reason for why say you things. You have every reason to not like their music, but don't make yourself look like an idiot. Whenever you criticise another band, say something you know is true and maybe someone will actually listen to what you have to say!
