Which cd was this?
I don't believe I've tried that. I wanna start shoplifting CDs, but I think if I start I won't be able to stop.
Why would you want to start in the first place?
Which cd was this?
Scarve - Irradiant. A review I'd read lead me to believe it some kind of progressive, atmospheric metal (of very high quality), so that's what I expected. What I got was uninspired, half-arsed (though technically proficient, I suppose) death/thrash with a bit of a futuristic sheen, a la Meshuggah/Mnemic and Darkane.

Jom 04-28-2005 06:25 PM

Hey, everyone.

So I got a job, it was weird being hired on the spot. I'm relieved/excited/nervous, because I have to go to two "training orientations," but seriously, how hard is it to host and wipe tables?

Anyway, I celebrated by picking up some CD-Rs, cases, and a CD. I didn't want to go overboard too much.

Also, Bartender, was that update format the way you were thinking? Ali said it was more or less what he expected but didn't clarify any further.

lunch998 04-28-2005 06:26 PM

That's good, where do you work?

I still need to find a job.

Dancin' Man 04-28-2005 06:28 PM

In response to 'Tender that is somewhat connected, I wish Sputnik reviewers were more encourage to only gove unbiased reviews, or more people reviewed albums they don't like. I also don't appreciate people who give high ratings to albums that suck but no one else would ever do and when they are told the band/album sucks they put up a big stink. I'm talking about pop reviews for the most part and music that people on these forums rarely listen to.

Oh dear, I reached 14,000 posts. :-/

Dancin' Man: I thought about reviewing again, but writing shorter reviews. The really high length standard that was used before always scared me off to review more than I did.

Illmatic 04-28-2005 06:37 PM

I think I may actually do a review for Sputnik. I'm not sure of what album, though.

Crap. I just wrote a lengthy burn at a few Metallica fans wanted Trivium to change their sound to be the next Metallica. Then I quit the program instead of submitting.

I think I'll write a review tonight. Just not sure what for yet. Maybe I'll review a Metallica album.

Woodstock 04-28-2005 06:38 PM

I lost interest in doing reviews after Sputnik. I rarely go to the site, and I think others do to.

Permanent Solution 04-28-2005 06:41 PM

I wrote 2 Sputnik reviews...got 3 comments, gave up :-/

My main reservation about doing a review is the "track-by-track" thing. For some tracks you just don't have much to say.

I tend to review albums as a whole, and a lot of people seem to make a big stink about that.

Dancin' Man 04-28-2005 06:45 PM

Not me. I encourage it. The real reviewers appreciate them. It's the idiot n00bs who don't. They think track by track is a rule.

ledpoisoning27 04-28-2005 06:52 PM

Sputnik reviews get me mad most of the time because i hate the people who review albums when they don't even like that genre. The one review that i think is the worst out of the ones ive seen is for The Beatles Sgt. Peppers, it onlt got 4 stars or maybe 4.5, I think. While some of their lesser early albums got perfect 5s. The person who reviewed the album didn't even like psychedelic or slow sounding songs.

its great as long as they mention the highlights of the albums.

So it's not a valid review?

Not to my thinking.

Woodstock 04-28-2005 06:56 PM

No such thing as a valid review.

Permanent Solution 04-28-2005 06:57 PM

Jelle hit 14k? You spamwhore.

I only review albums I like, and I always rate them high, but I've never given a five nor had someone disagree with me about the rating.

What the hell would the purpose of a review site be, if every album would be reviewed by someone who loved it so much that he praised it endlessly and gave it 5 stars ...

What i said was they didn't like the genre. That is like me reviewing a rap album, when i hate rap.

I do track by tracks, but I don't care if other people don't. I think they're nicer because they force you to be more in depth about the music, but if it's in depth anyways there's no reason to have it.

I like track by tracks, but only the highlights.

Dancin' Man 04-28-2005 07:13 PM

People should review albums of genres or bands they don't like, or at least albums they don't like. Otherwise the reviews aren't helpful. Look at the new QotSA album's reviews, one is an e-blow job and the other just trashes it. Neither are very good, but I like having two opposing opinions. It gives a better idea what the album is like. People should try to include the pros and cons of each album and when giving cons, really look hard for them.

I am failing math, so my parents thought I should get a tutor. So I find one online, and today was the first day I met her. I was expecting an old lady or something, but when she shows up my jaw hit the floor. She is SMOKING hot. I'm telling you she could be a model. She is about 23, and from the Ukraine.

So I'm getting tutored by a model, basically.

I reviewed albums I hadn't listened to before reviewing them. I listened to them a number of times straight through, and then reviewed it. The examples that come to mind are the Vertical Horizon review and the 30 Seconds to Mars review.

superpeer 04-28-2005 07:23 PM

I did some track-by-tracks in my early days, but I don't really like them anymore, because they don't help at all if you don't actually know the songs.

*Great chorus, good bassline* Doesn't do anything for me.

Dancin' Man 04-28-2005 07:28 PM

I love Per Ardua's track by tracks. He talks about the song but also how it incorporates itself into the album as a whole and gives side notes as he goes to keep it interesting. If there is anyone who I model my reviews after, it is he.

I, like some others, lost interest in CD reviews since Sputnik was made. I used to drop into the CR review forums and see what was new, comment, etc. I rarely visit Sputnik though.

If you don't **** her, this story has no point, you understand. :)

Today I thought that I didn't save the half of my 28-page paper that I slaved on for all of Monday, but my roommate told me where to find it and saved me from killing myself. :)
