quick_death 11-23-2005 12:05 PM

millions lost at the penny arcade by neil perry is incredible. everyone listen to that song

Sep 11-23-2005 12:19 PM

Fading Away Like The Rest Of Them is my favorite. But I've only heard like 5 or 6 of their songs.
Breathing With One Bad Lung is amazing too. The vocals are so desperate.

quick_death 11-23-2005 12:54 PM

havn't heard either of those, will have too get them

Sep 11-23-2005 12:57 PM

Yeah, Nine Minutes Of Non Fiction is amazing too. The ending reminds me of Jerome's Dream's Thirty Dollar Bill because it's so dreamy and amazing.

quick_death 11-23-2005 01:02 PM

that song owns. i really like the intro, the weird singing bit puts me off abit but still a great song

Sep 11-23-2005 01:03 PM

Yeah the weird singing in that song is just... well weird.

The singing at the end of Fading Away Like The Rest Of Them is incredible though!

whiteminority 11-23-2005 01:11 PM
neil perry are great. even though i only have a few songs. their split with kaospilot is aweome.
Heh... I after reading these I realised how stupid the post I made was. Anyway, I don't know if anybody is interested in my first impressions of the Emo bands I was able to remember (I've bookmarked a few posts now, and I'll go back and d/l some more), but I'm going to post about it anyway:
Rites Of Spring
Pretty good, I don't see a huge difference between them and most of the hardcore I've heard, but it was early days, right? I'm listening to Deeper Than Inside again now, I like it.
Circle Takes The Square
Naaaah... I didn't like them much. They sound kind of like Minor Threat with the singer from Archenemy. Listening to them again: the vocals on Crow Quill are making me giggle. But it's a bit better than I thought at first.
Sunny Day Real Estate
Wait... What? Are there two bands called Sunny Day Real Estate? The songs I have all sound sort of like the Beatles. Nothing like the other two.
Second listen compounds my confusion. I'd heard they were a rip off of RoS...
Those were the three bands whose names I could remember.

Yeah, they're growing on me as I write. They definitely don't sound like Minor Threat (it was late when I first listened to them) but the vocals are a bit like Archenemy's, only more femenine. I'm starting to like them, or at least 7, which has been playing for the last ten minutes, but I still don't think the vocals are great. I can sort of see why someone might like them, but it's not my kind of singing.

whiteminority 11-23-2005 02:26 PM

well vocals in emo and screamo are love/hate. you love them or you hate them.

the vocals are diff. it took me a little to get into it. just keep listening, and read their lyrics, because he's an amazing writer.

I wouldn't say I love them or hate them. Sorry to piss all over your theory. I like them a bit, but there's something about them I don't like. I think I might like them more live.

Yeah, they've grown on me a little already, I'll keep listening. I'll check out the lyrics now.
Edit: Yeah, those are good lyrics.

deadohiosky9 11-23-2005 03:42 PM

damn right they are good lyrics.
damn right they are good lyrics.
And I usualy amn't really impressed by lyrics. I'm going to get the singer in my band to check them out. I think she might like the band, too.

JimbobTheSquirrel 11-23-2005 04:47 PM
well since you havnt heard a single emo band but like metal, I would say start with rites of spring, embrace, and early fugazi (obviously) but after that you might be more interested in the emo's schizophrenic daughter screamo: check out In/Humanity, Pg. 99, Orchid, The Red Scare, Hassan I Sabbah, Usurp Synapse, and After School KnifeFight. :)
I found a couple Urge Synapse songs, I'm listening to them now. It's pretty good.
What are some early Fugazi songs? I don't know which ones to get... And the only Embrace there is seems to be that English Indie band that stole the name .

Hi. My name is Yan:wave:
the album steady diet of nothing is amazing if you want something by fugazi. oh and of course 13 songs.

EDIT: If anyone has cash I was just cruising eBay and there is a dude who is selling 5 Funeral Diner Test Presses. collectors of skram might want to head that way.

Oh, yeah, I have a few songs and In On The Kill Taker already, I was just wondering which is their more emo stuff.
While we're discussing Fugazi, what albums are I'm So Tired, Turkish Disco and Do You Like Me from? It annoys me not knowing these things...
the album steady diet of nothing is amazing if you want something by fugazi. oh and of course 13 songs.
I have a song or two off 13 songs. I might get another Fugazi album when I have money, they're nice and cheap:).
