If you close one then you may as well close them all, because every official thread has essentially turned into a general discussion thread (sometimes about the band, sometimes not). I know most aren't as stagnant as the Official Tallica thread though.
I can see your point on that, but I still think I have a valid point. All the other 'Official' threads from what I see seem to run smoothly. Perhaps it's cause the Metallica thread attracts so many fanboys and people who can't spell for beans, I don't know.

Anyway, was only a suggestion.
Lars, you should look at the posts above yours before posting links... a lot them were already reported, and there's no need for them to be re-reported.
Yes, thanks for the advice, someone give him rep+ please, he has dedicated like 10 minuites each day to me resulting in me becoming a better poster :D
Can I suggest something.

I think that somebody should close the Official Metallica thread. It's getting too much like a chat room and the same stale topics keep coming up again. I know it's inevitable that the same topic will come up eventually, but it seems like it comes up everyday there.

Perhaps a new one could be made with a Metallica FAQ at the start also, cause too many people ask when the new album is coming out and things like what songs Dave Mustaine contributed on. Also that the solos on Kill 'Em All weren't Kirks...I'm getting bored of saying it. With an FAQ, at least it'd be in the first page.

Thank you.
well generally the official 'Tallica thread runs smoothly, only with the odd exception.
But if you want to close it because it's turned into a general discussion thread instead of its original purpose then I believe I have a point, or at least so I'd like to think :)

De-officialize them, dont close them. We still have good discussions and heated arguments in the PF thread.

Non-mod created ***Official*** thread for a band that doesn't belong here

What should happen, is that all Official threads get re-named so that they no longer state 'Official' in the title.

Let's face it, at least 50% of the idiots in R&M manifest their idiocy through making their own Official threads. Take away the Official title, and that idea won't enter their heads in the first place.

The rules should then say 'Don't make threads about these bands:' and list the bands that used to have Official threads.

Yes. Do NOT close them. Please. *cries*

The Pink Floyd thread is going really well. I think no one in there is tired of answering noob questions, or even discussing the Wizard of Oz/DSOTM synch.

Could mabye sombody sticky MXican's thread about improving R&M? I think it is really helpful and at some points even more so then the rules.

 He posted a thread much like yours, though his was a bit more successful, I've seen people take the suggestions from the thread and use them. Though yours was good too.

Riva 04-12-2005 07:20 PM

Ah, yes I see. :)

He linked mine, so I am happy.

The funny thing is, I don't think anyone realises Jake has been here since September, I think.

User bumped a less-than-five post thread that was well-over 24 hours old.

Riva 04-12-2005 10:46 PM

24 hours isn't a bad time. Three days or more is worse. The post was useless though.

We kind of need a Mod's input soon.
They could either take the approach that you suggested or they could just keep the ex-official threads as general discussion threads on the band, since the majority of the discussion is good in most of them as is the community, and allow other threads to be made on the bands that already have these threads. The rule of "Do Not make any official threads" still stand.
I guess a problem then arises in whether or not you allow more discussion threads to be created, as it's essentially the same problem as creating official threads but I'm sure that can be sorted out.
As you said, if you take "Official" out of the title then people won't feel spurred to make their own threads, and when they see these massive threads on certain bands they won't be able to draw certain conclusions.

Jom 04-13-2005 05:50 AM

In the Rules, Ken has links to numerous sites posted, one of them being the old community thread... there should probably be a link for the new community thread, with a short deal about how the first link/thread is closed while the second link/thread is the new community thread...

... or whatever you see fit.

I don't have an issue with the kid yet, but he keeps spamming the YSI thread ridiculously.

If one of the mods could go through and eliminate the spamming in the thread, I would appreciate it... you don't have to do the entire thread, just this user's for now and any that you see if it's not too much trouble.

I will really appreciate the assistance if this happens :)
