Undeclocking RAM so you can overclock your Processor?

Hmm.

>_>

Air or Water?

Left Face Down 02-21-2010 05:37 PM

Well, I'm either going to try to either A) clock up RAM to stock 1600Mhz B) try for better timings. Last night was really focused on CPU OC. Though this may take me a little while to get the motivation. Feasibly I can just go throw it to 1600Mhz in BIOS and start my 18 hours of testing again. I'm an OC-noob, and the guide said under-clock the RAM and then deal with it once you've got the CPU stable.

System is air, but I have the Corsair H-50 for the CPU heat-sink (self enclosed water).

I've heard of people getting stable 4.0Ghz on my batch with CPU Vcore 1.32/1.33. Right now I haven't even bumped up the CPU Vcore from the stock value 1.2975. So I'm pretty happy. Though I assume I might need a little bump in Vdimm to get the RAM back to 1600Mhz.

Edit: bumped everything back to stock settings and running Memest86+ on RAM. Just to make sure it is good before I attempt 3.4Ghz with the RAM at stock speed. Passed once, working on two, I'd like to see at least 3 passes if not 5 before I bump it.

AG 02-22-2010 11:03 AM

You've not touched the Vcore yet? Vcore is fun.

I used to run this computer at 3.5Gz on water with the RAM at stock. Now it's on air and I'm running it at its stock 2.92Gz.

One day though, I'll reinstall water.

It's not like talking about guitars is interesting anymore.

I don't know anything about new models, pickups, tech, amps. I can't really remember much about the stuff that was new 4 years ago.
anyone remember where to get that drumkit from hell that was posted a while back?
Blue_Moon 02-22-2010 02:22 PM

what exactly is in that download?

AG 02-22-2010 02:42 PM

High quality drum samples, tons of them.

From loads of different kits, with 9 velocities on each drum, in stereo. You can get awesome drum sounds when you plug the samples into Reason.

Blue_Moon 02-22-2010 02:44 PM

i think i downloaded this before but it was like 200mb also DKFH

the more the merrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrier

Well as far as I understand I don't have to jump the Vcore if it is running stable. I dicked around with the RAM last night, that was a no go. Kind of disappointing. The reviews on Newegg have people claiming getting the RAM at stock speeds with i7-920 at higher speeds than mine.

I'll probably save up and around the year get some really nice 1800 or 2000Mhz RAM at the end of the year. Later I'll mess around and see where I can get the RAM/CPU happy. I don't understand why the RAM runs fine at stock speeds at 1.5V but even jumping them up to 1.65 (actually recommended spec by Corsair) they don't work.

Saw some one at 3.6Ghz i7-920 and stock RAM speeds at 1.65V. Then reviews claiming some one hit 4.2Ghz with their i7-920 and had to drop the timings to 8-8-8-22-2T, but still 1600Mhz.

I know it sure as hell isn't the board or the CPU. Of course I'm a noob at OC so it might just be my lack of experience. Though last night I had to use the on-board power button/CMOS clear more than a hand full of times.

AG 02-22-2010 04:21 PM

You should stick an external CMOS clear on the back. Super easy mod, makes life a ton easier.

Why does sputnik music go through phases where it just wont load for like 12 hours? Are the servers that crappy?
You should stick an external CMOS clear on the back. Super easy mod, makes life a ton easier.
I actually realized I have one back there when I was doing some cable management tonight. I'm wondering how far I can push this RAM. I see reviews of people pushing it to 1600Mhz 7-7-7-20-1T (stock specs) @ 1.65V (stock settings/recommended voltage) with the Core i7-920 in mid 3Ghz. All I know is mine did not like it at all, system didn't boot once I even told it to go 1333Mhz. Seeing I'm an OC'noob I don't want to chance frying my RAM. I'm just kind of confused as it runs fine at 1.50V at stock speeds with stock CPU speed. Just doesn't like the overclocking. :upset:

When I get a job and get my own place I'm going to build a HTCP around the eVGA H55V and Core i3-540. When I do hopefully the Corsair Dominator GT RAM will be reasonable and I can just throw this 6Gb of RAM in the server/HTCP for ultimate overkill of RAM.

P.S. - If you're interested the mobo is a eVGA x58 Classified 3-way SLi. The thing is pretty much sex.

AG 02-23-2010 07:15 AM

Yeah, overload the RAM much.

My next build will be more OC-centric.

Blue_Moon 02-23-2010 07:15 AM

i havnt been playing guitar much since i f'd up my finger last year but got a new wah today and its all back baby

i <3 my setup now sounds awsome

Left Face Down 02-23-2010 07:46 AM

I keep playing on and off. I keep getting side tracked by cleaning the house, building computers, setting up networks, and working on resume.

Still no interests in the job department. Just finished what was one of the most annoying things ever; a cold cover letter for my resume. I mean, the version that goes with my resume when I give it to people my mother/father knows/knew so they can hand it around. So it isn't like a cold cover letter which I will be sending to a company that I know the name of/address/etc.

Over all I've grown to hate resume writing. Put in "action words", just don't put in "empty words". Which is exactly wtf "action" words are.

What wah you got?

Blue_Moon 02-23-2010 10:53 AM

Mr. Budda Budwah ...had to get it now before the redesigned ones took over, i have 0.0mm to spare on my board so needed that typical dunlop shape type wah, its unbelievably good

Post clips now.

My dad threw away that awesome board I made. /sad

Hi guys, don't usually post here but can anyone point me in the direction of a site (not google) that can help me fix my ibanez. The floyd rose bridge has tilted backwards and tbh I have no fucking clue what to do.
