Just listened to The Wall again, it never gets old. Such a classic album.

Who else in here thinks that The Wall was better than DSOTM? I know I do.

The Trial is an excellent song, but the best song on both discs is "Hey You", in my opinon.
Yeah The Wall was my gateway into Floyd. I don't know what my favorite song is on it because well my favorite song is decided most times on how well the band works together since all of their stuff is great, but that doesn't happen a lot on The Wall. My favorite song would have to be In The Flesh (one) or The Thin Ice.

pigonthewing82 04-07-2005 08:17 PM

What do you guys think of the song The Embryo? I think its really really good, and very underated.

Kingofdudes 04-07-2005 09:41 PM

The Wall would be worth a lot less to me if it wasnt for comfortably numb. For me, it is the ultimate atmospheric song.

Thor 04-07-2005 09:48 PM
The Wall would be worth a lot less to me if it wasnt for comfortably numb. For me, it is the ultimate atmospheric song.
Comfortably Numb is a great song, this is true. But if you ask me, it didnt have as much raw emotion and hatred as the other songs, which was what made The Wall such a great album.

If I think about it, The Wall is probably the 2nd best album ever created, right behind Rage Against the Machine's first album.
The Wall would be worth a lot less to me if it wasnt for comfortably numb. For me, it is the ultimate atmospheric song.
I would like Comfortably Numb a lot more if Waters and Gilmour didn't dominate the song so much. I can't imagine how great the song would be if Nick and Rick played the equal part in the band as they used to. But I would have to agree, the Wall wouldn't be the same with out it. Its really the only song where they do much jamming at all, though its only a guitar jam.

It would be great if Rick would have added a thing or two to the song, but during the recording of the album we all know that Rick was going through a lot of crap with his life, se he wasnt really "in the zone" during the album.

I never really expect much from Nick, save a few early songs(One of these days, A Saucer Full of Secrets, Echoes)

pigonthewing82 04-07-2005 10:20 PM

Yeah I'm finding that I'm liking their latter days less and less. Its been at least a month sense I listened to the Wall (if you don't count Comfertably Numb on Pulse). Not that I don't love the latter stuff, just not as much. Mabye its just because their older stuff is more new to me so it just fresh.

I was just sitting, thinking that if Pink Floyd only got popular after Gilmour came in does that mean Syd wasnt all that good? (I dont have the piper album)

thunderstruck306 04-08-2005 08:34 AM

Pink Floyd

Pink floyd is awesome! My favourite albums are Dark side of the moon and The wall. Has anyone here ever tried listening to Dark side of the moon while watchin the Wizard of oz. Its freaky. Did I spell oz right?

DeusExMachina 04-08-2005 11:03 AM
What do people think of the Final Cut? There is absolutely no talk about it so I only recently heard of it through a discography.
I am a very outspoken anti-Final Cut person. It's good in and of itself, but it's pretty awful as a Pink Floyd album. But that's just me. If you more prefer the Waters influence, you'll like it. If you prefer the Gilmour influence, or a balance of the two, you probably won't.

The only got popular in the US after Syd left, but I'm pretty sure they had no problems with popularity in Britain. In fact I think I heard that See Emily Play didn't do bad on the charts in Britain. I mean and just because a band is not popular by no means it isn't good. Thats like saying just because a band is popular its good. I think Syd's stuff is amazing. If you haven't heard Piper do so as quickly as possible. I mean if you don't like expiremental stuff then you won't like it, but if you do then PATGOD will be your god. I love how creative the album is, and expect for Saucerful of Secrets (whitch the band had a lot of help from Syd by) is their most expirmental album.

Adam Jones is GOD 04-08-2005 02:37 PM

Quick Floyd question;

Does anyone know what year it was that Douglas Adams joined Pink Floyd on stage? And any details behind it.

(I know you guys are helpful, so I can sound demanding :D )

Adam Jones is GOD 04-08-2005 03:06 PM

Cheers. I was reading Salmon Of Doubt today and came across the part where he said about playing on stage. Along with a lot of admration for The Beatles

I also found it touching that Gilmour played WYWH at his funeral.

shamed-angel 04-08-2005 03:48 PM

Dude that song gives me the most incredible chill when I listen to it.

Im not a massive Floyd fan. I only have DSOTM and A Nice Pair. I've downloaded alot aswell.
Could anyone advise me on the next albums I should get to expand my Pink Floyd Hearing Experience?
Any help much appreciated.
Cheers.

Dragon_Prince 04-08-2005 03:49 PM

I say Wish You Were Here, I personally like every song off that one album =)

bennyl 04-08-2005 04:21 PM

I'm listening to Careful With that Axe, Eugene (which is awesome) and thinking about ummagumma. I first listened to that album sitting alone at like 4 in the morning. It may have been the scarieest experience of my life. Anywho... what do people think of The Grand Vizier's Garden Party. I personally like it and feel it shows that Nick has a lot of musical skill for what he's technically lacking, but its a bit difficult to sit through

/trying to start discussion of individual talent in band

I like The Grand Vizier's Garden Party, but there are rumors that Nick didn't actually play the flute pieces, but his wife.

So, I've never been a Pink Floyd, I never really listened to their stuff. Then I downloaded The Wall. I listened to the whole thing last night, and I thought it was amazing.

What would you guys reccomend I hear next? I hope the rest of their stuff is this good...

Distant Echoes 04-08-2005 07:48 PM

-non spam bump

When i was researching for golf season this year (which i do play), i found that on floyds latter tours, Waters would make an effort to book hotels near golf courses to play frequently.

This thread must never die again

EDIT: dam...Beaten by mpj

You would most likely like Animals. After that check out Wish You Were Here. If you are still interested after that get Meddle.

Well it depends.

My best guess would be you listen to Dark Side of the Moon next.

Then Animals or Wish You Were Here.

Riva 04-09-2005 02:32 AM

Everyone knows how I feel about Ummagumma. :D

Do you like Several Species Of Small Furry Mammals In A Cave And Grooving With A Pict?

instrumental 04-09-2005 03:08 AM

You guys were talking about favorite songs... Mine'd have to be
"Atom Heart Mother"
Seriously, have you listened to that? Its a whole nother level of song writing than most of their other music. Its 23 minutes long, but well worth it... love the song.
(and its instrumental ;) like my username innit)

i like some of the syd stuff, but its a bit too drugged up for me.

Can i have some suggested listening? For some more 70s prog band? I've heard some rush, i didn't like that, and i'm listening to some strawbs (prog folk) which is cool. but mostly mid-era floyd (animals, wywh, dark side, meddle, etc.)

Pink Floyd where one of the biggest psychedelic bands in England but after Syd left that all changed. It took them a few albums to get back on their feet and until Meddle none of their albums made any money. After Meddle came DSOTM thus brought superstardom from there.

1970 Atom Heart Mother
1969 Ummagumma
1969 More
1968 A Saucerful of Secrets

You guys never talk about More.
