If you're doing Battery I dibs rhythm...
Seriously, best song rhythm wise imo. |
It'd be awesome if he could actually play it perfectly. I can play a few Metallica songs on drums too, I've played For Who The Bell tolls with a full band at college performance before. \m/
|
I've played For Whom The Bell Tolls with a full band, but it was only a sort of warm up :p
Also played with MX's Slapping Penguin \m/ |
Have ya recorded any Metallica songs at all?
|
I have a recording, maybe 2 years old now, of For Whom The Bell Tolls with Slappign Penguin on Lead guitar, my brother on drums and me on rhythm.
It's on my iPod I believe, but my iPod has some corrupt file on it, I can't put music on it, don't know if that means I can't get music off it though. Edit: I've changed my house around since then, and there's no longer an easy way (It's still possible for me to get an iBook from my work if I needed to...) to get a microphone to our music room (Incidently, when we got that recording with Slapping Penguin, it was with his iPod mic, but we also had a computer in the same room at the time), but hopefully this Spring we'll turn my shed into a music room, which will be cool. We'll be churning out No Life 'Til Leather quality demoes soon \m/ |
Ah, that'd be cool to hear. :)
|
I will be more than happy to play battery however, I will have to do it tommorow when my parents are out though lmao, I normally use dampener pads on my drums to prevent the neighbours whipping out violations... Unfortunatly it sounds pretty crap with dampeners on though so I will have to remove them. :D I will do my recording ASAP, I have the drums and mic all set up ready. Its just a case of getting them to leave hehe, I will play the Album version and I will play it to the exact speed as on the album.. I know on live albums they play it faster however we need to all use the same copy in order for it all to match up with timing.
For whom the bell tollz is awesome to play in drums/Guitar... Its probably one of the easiest rhythem songs to play on guitar I find. I will do a drum recording of tollz and a Guitar recording of tollz also (Rhythem that is) And you guys can see what you think! I will have to search for some software later so I can mix them. I currently have a sound recorder that automatically transfers the file to MP3 and it also has an infinate amount of recording time... Unlike the crappy one I already had on here which allowed me something like 40 seconds of recording lol |
Ooo, are you guys doing Battery then for one of the songs, since the drums and gutiar are covered already? :)
NP: ...And Justice for All. |
I remember a long time ago we tried putting this all together. We were gunna do Bellz and it never ended up happening
If we do Battery I call the solo, whenever I learn it. I'm thinking we should do a song like... The Four Horsemen NP: Prince Charming |
If you guys want any real drums I can try and get em' done.
|
I would like to do Dyers Eve and Fade to Black but my recording equipment is quite ****, so its gonna sound bad, dunno whether I should bother...
|
It's worth I try.
I'd like to do Damage Inc. |
Anyone seen this?
http://www.spawn.com/toys/product.aspx?product=2995 Looks awesome, I'd like to get one for free to hang it on the wall or something. It looks mysterious with the fingers cause they look chopped off. lol |
you guys should record Blackened. That would be awesome.
|
I think we should do one song from each album?
Although, for albums like MoP/RTL there's so many good songs, we couldn't possible just choose one  1. Kill 'em All: Motorbreath 2. Ride The Lightning: For Whom The Bell Tolls/Fade To Black/Escape 3. Master of Puppets: Battery/Disposable Heroes 4. ...And Justice for All: ...AJFA 5. Metallica: Through The Never 6. Load: Until It Sleeps 7. ReLoad: Devil's Dance 8. St Anger: Shoot Me Again --- They're the songs I'll try and do I spose... Although I did say we wouldn't decide on songs here, it seems like it might be the only way... By the way, for Fade To Black, I would really like it if we could get Joe on Lead :thumb: |
The main riff for that song always has me in  I've never bothered to sit and learn it properly.
Blackened, that is. |
yeah the part at the end of the main riff can be tough for a while. It's probably the hardest Metallica song to play. The solo is awesome though.
|
Yeah it's definitely up there with Disposable Heroes, Dyers Eve, etc.
I might record a few clips from a few songs out of boredom. |
hey guys if i could get in on this recording thing that'd be sweet.
also, what do you guys think about their new songs? I really like the first new song (minus the kinda-whiney part) and i just heard "the other new song" which i didnt care for as much, but the riff in the middle part balanced me out. |

This idea is a win. Plus if you keep doing other albums it'll keep this thread busy :thumb: |
yeah thats a good idea...i especially would love to cover fight fire with fire
|
Ok, but that's a ****load of work, on all our parts..
How should we do it though? Should we elect a full band to take on one song, and then when they have finished (We can keep pressuring them this way  ) the next band/song is elected? Cause, I think for starters we should definately do For Whom The Bell Tolls. It's the easiest song in the Metallica catalog, so it'd be the fastest to learn (Well by my logic anyway). Edit: This is available to ANYONE who wants to play something. Even if you have **** recording equiptment, it doesn't matter, please submit something. |
Should we get a new thread for this?
|
I don't think that's necessary.
|
Should we get a new thread for this?
Yeah, as Apocalyptic Raids said, a new thread isn't really necessary. I mean, if we start it as a Metallica project (Which is what it is imo), obviously the Metallica haters will flame it to buggery, at least in here they don't know about it. When we have some, if not all of the music recorded, we might think about creating a new thread to share our success, and maybe even move into other bands. |

But we need to 100% decide on a format for it or it'll just end up as a distant memory like the last it was suggested. |
Yeah, I completely agree with that.
These days, there's not much movement in the Metallica thread, and when there is, it's usually US (The regulars  ), talking about what we're doing, or posting some video, etc. When we originally brought up this idea, this thread was moving 2/3 pages a day, so it was quite easy to miss something, hopefully that won't happen this time around.... Edit: Basically, what I'm getting at, this IS our thread, of course we get the occaisonal person bringing up new Metallica news or whatnot (and with the new songs being released, and inevitable new album release the traffic will undoubtably pick up...), but until then, we can decide on whatever we want here, just as if it's our own thread. |
So how exactly are we all going to decide who plays which parts for one song??
I mean, we have 2 drummers already which is great, probably a few bassists and vocalists and then I'm guessing a crapload of guitarists...how would that work? |
Give each guitarist a couple of songs, one rhythm, one lead or whatever they want.
We'd have to figure it out properly though. |
