I played a Fretless Yamaha the other day to much the same effect. It sounded like they'd tried to compensate for the fretless tone and make it sound like a fretted, and the result was any slides or bends sounding really rubbery and twangy.

Yeah. It sounded like a crappily defretted bass.

Yep that would be fabulous

Apparently I came home and made Hot Pockets and posted on here while totally wasted. I have pretty decent spelling abilities for aguy who can't even remember that he was on the computer, and who passed out fully clothed on the floor, about 6 inches away from his perfectly warm, super comfortable bed.
