ugh. community bathrooms. thank god i dont have those. ha.
ugh. community bathrooms. thank god i dont have those. ha.
Yea I was a little skeptical because the few times I've stayed with friends up there, they've all had their own. But I look at it this way: I don't have to clean the bathroom and my room is bigger. |
I need to do more packing, but I'm getting there. My roommate hasn't responded to my e-mail yet (he's foreign I think?), so I'm not sure what I need to bring and what he's bringing, but we'll see how that turns out. My hall has community bathrooms
Well, when it comes to clothes, don't bring too many (obviously). Of course, the main strategy is to pack what you think you'll need, then over Christmas break (or Thanksgiving break) leave what you don't need at home, but obviously you don't have that strategy available to you. You generally want to do laundry three or four times a week if you play it smart. I know a girl who does laundry once a week at the most. That is what we like to call "overkill". And along those lines, bring lots and lots of quarters. Trust me on this one. And generally, what I've worked out is that whoever lives closer brings a lion's share of the appliances and such. If he's foreign, it could actually be a blessing, but you never know. |

I have plenty of quarters from work tips  NP: Yes - Close To The Edge |
I have plenty of quarters from work tips
Where do you work?
He seems cool, I just hope he knows how to work the email and I'll hear back from him.
If he doesn't know how to work e-mail, that might be a problem :p NP: Miles Davis - Right Off |
that songs so sweet. that entire album, all 2 tracks of it, is just amazing. probably my favorite miles album.
|
I like White Rabbit (of course), but I haven't heard much else. My brother's a bigger fan of them than I, maybe I'll listen to the "Worst of Jefferson Airplane" vinyl he bought.
Which brings me to my next point: when we put in our surround sound we had to get a new receiver that we couldn't hook the record player to, so it's in my room now  I just grabbed a bunch of vinyls of my dad's and mine to listen to. Jeff Beck - Blow By Blow Frank Zappa - Apostrophe The Beates - White Album Pink Floyd - Meddle Yes - Yessongs Yes - Fragile Yes - Close To The Edge Yes - The Yes Album The Warriors Soundtrack New Riders of the Purple Sage - Panama Red Grateful Dead - Skeletons In the Closet Jimi Hendrix - Are You Experienced? Band of Gypsies A British blues compilation Talking Heads - Speaking In Tongues David Bowie - Changes We have a ton more downstairs too. That isn't a fraction of my dad's collection. NP: Yes - Starship Trooper (live, this song pwns hard)
I've got to get Yessongs... I'll probably pick it up soon, what with all the christmas money I have. |

I dunno if I'd take it over In a Silent Way, but it's definitely a great album. edit - yeah, "Yesternow" is kinda weak, so I really don't think it's his best. |
Don't know if any of you like Wilco here, but their new live album Kicking Television is awesome.
|
lunch, ive got to nab the ox anthology and mr. fantasy from you. ive got some stuff from your needed list.
Yea sure, what do you have for me? |
from your wanted list i have red, king biscuit flower hour, close to the edge, and tales from topographic oceans.
|
That would make me a happy person. I'll get working on the Ox Anthology.
|
thanks. you want me to ysi or go through aim?
|
Schyma, your Beatles list :X
ugh Adventures of Panama Red is a good album if you haven't heard it before Lunch. It's nothing like there s/t, but it's still good. I have Yankee Hotel Foxtrot and A Ghost Is Born by Wilco, they're pretty good I guess. Wanton, your Waiting For Columbus avatar is sweet man. Anybody want anything from my list? Yea, I own both of them. |
Wanton, your Waiting For Columbus avatar is sweet man.
Thanks. It's a great album. |
Yea, I own both of them.
Whoa, I meant to type in magicbus. Sorry about that. |
I've recently got into The Who, I got Who's Next for this Christmas and its rocks! I downloaded this short video of Keith Moon doing a drum solo and throughout the solo the camera keeps looking at a goldfish bowl attached to his drumkit. Then at the end a woman from the audience asks "What happens with your goldfish?" to which Keith Moon replies "The goldfish? well...Well even the best drummers get hungry"
|
uh huh...the who are cool. um... yeah.
that's not the best representation of moon's talent though. |

 never heard that story before, but it wouldn't surprise me. Where/when was the concert? (if you know) also, welcome to the thread, thank you for making a decent first post np: Common/Scarface/Mos Def - The Corner (remix) |
I've seen the clip, I think it was on Pete Townshend's webiste (The Who TV). As far as I remember, it wasn't a concert, it was just an appearence by Moon on some talk show or something like that. I could be wrong though.

I have a clip of that. The solo itself is no more then a minute though, or not to my recollection. To clarify, I think the goldfish (and water) were inside the floor tom itself, and not a bowl. Maybe that's what you were trying to say though. I'll have to dig that clip up somewere |
its on www.drummerworld.com
i warn you though. its not a good solo. |
I don't have the video program to run that. I'd assume mine's a little crappier, but I wouldn't know.
Did moon normally do drum solos in the Who shows at any point (Lunch?) |
I doubt it, I've never heard anything about them, but I don't know for sure. He wasn't much of a solo player anyway, and during the Who songs he got plenty of room to work and use all his energy.

And for that, we are eternally grateful. (sorry, I just don't like drum solos all that much...the only thing that keeps me from thinkign A Love Supreme is a perfect album is the damn drum solo) |

(sorry, I just don't like drum solos all that much...the only thing that keeps me from thinkign A Love Supreme is a perfect album is the damn drum solo)
I can't blame you, if I weren't a drummer I probably wouldn't enjoy them outside of just gaining respect for the drummer. I am glad that Moon didn't attempt solos though, they weren't up his alley. |
youre crazy. drum solos are great...for drummers.
|
Notice: If anyone wants the Ox Anthology (2 Discs) AIM me or PinkFreud. My SN is lunch998.

I've been listening to tons of Van Halen lately. Mostly the David Lee Roth stuff. Speaking of David Lee Roth, I was listening to him this morning on KROCK. It's always good to see rock veterans still active with the public.
|
Didn't David Lee Roth replace Howard Stern or something? Him and Adam Corolla?
|
I can't stand DLR.
Go Sammy! |
Anyone like Jefferson Airplane? I got their greatest hits for Christmas and I've been hooked on 'em.
ALL of their songs sound the same, the only good thing about the band is Grace Slick. I'd say they were the most overrated band from the Bay Area scene but they have the Grateful Dead to contend with. :p
Drum solos do bore me but on A Love Supreme, it doesn't bother me. I still think it's very perfect. I feel sorry for you people who aren't on the Raggae/Dub mailing list, I just got some fantastic albums. NP: Frozen Dub - Augustus Pablo |
Prolly my favorite Beatles album is Abbey Road.
But, I got Rubber Soul and MMT for Christmas, so my opinion my change. /sofukinl8 |
What do you think of Revolver?

I love them. I only have Surrealistic Pillow though, can't find Bless It's Pointed Little Head or After Bathing at Baxter's.
All of them are great on that album. But on when Howe breaks into that slow chord progression on "Starship Trooper", and then keyboard and guitar solos follow, it is amazing.
Indeed it is. Close to the Edge, Fragile, and The Yes Album are all masterpieces. EDIT: I don't know what my favorite Beatles album is. Probably Sgt. Pepper's, Abbey Road, and MMT. |
ooooh yeah. i wouldnt mind that either.
