i work in a pizza shop and earn alot less than that, do i get another $950

big80smullet 02-02-2009 09:50 PM

by last financial year does he mean the one we're in now?

Aaron 02-02-2009 09:52 PM
It goes off last financial year. So if you paid income tax and earned under 80k last year, you get it.
I haven't read fully up on all the details.

But if that $950 shows up in my account I'll be chuffed.
I can use some of it to pay back the $540 or so that I owe on last years tax.
Then piss the remainder against the nearest wall.
What if I didn't do tax last year?!

Aaron 02-02-2009 09:53 PM
Basis points? Aaron's possessed again.
Cash rate. 100 basis points = reserve bank dropping cash rate by 1.00%

big80smullet 02-02-2009 09:56 PM

i paid income tax from september 08 do i get money?

Aaron 02-02-2009 09:56 PM

Last financial year was July 2007 to June 2008.

Aes820 02-02-2009 09:59 PM

Financial Year 07-08

Even if you didn't submit a return you no doubt still did pay income tax.

A cash rate drop of 1% isn't that great for me just yet. As I'm on a fixed rate and my savings are now earning me next to nothing.

But... I'll be refinancing next year so the rates still should be low by then. And the low cash rate now gives me the excuse to spend up. New kitchen, bathroom, swampy.

Looks like students get some cash too.

Aaron 02-02-2009 10:01 PM

80% of mine is fixed till 01/11/2009 so I see a little. Will be stoked when I get to then though, haha.

gaslight 02-02-2009 10:04 PM

Nah there was no tax paid by me, I had no official income.

I don't think I even counted as a full time student because of the way my course is structured, so I might not get either of the monies.

Nice, maybe I will then (doubtful, after taking a significant amount from the Australian government only 2 years ago - I'm still banned from Centrelink for at least 6 more years).

Also, with the impending drop in housing prices, just save up and buy a new house when you need it, rather then spending money on a potential renovation. lol

Disposable Society!

gaslight 02-02-2009 10:08 PM

How far are housing prices meant to drop and in what areas?

big80smullet 02-02-2009 10:13 PM

i need to do a tax return for 05-06 cause i worked for ages on emergency tax

Aaron 02-02-2009 10:15 PM

I am both a full-time worker and full-time student. Fucking A!

gaslight 02-02-2009 10:15 PM

What's emergency tax?
I am both a full-time worker and full-time student. Fucking A!
How do you manage that?

Isn't it 20 hours class time a week to be considered a full time student, and you work full time on top of that?

Aaron 02-02-2009 10:17 PM

At UOW it's enrolment in three undergraduate or postgraduate courses at a time.

And I work 50 hours on top of that, lol.

big80smullet 02-02-2009 10:18 PM

i am a casual casual easy thing

Aaron 02-02-2009 10:19 PM

lol

According to my financial advisor, the housing market will significantly come down in the next 2 years, with a particularly strong decline in the next year.

I'm not sure of areas exactly, but for instance, he said houses out in Queanbeyan have come down by about $50k in the last 3 months alone, and the drop was only meant to be worse.

Of course, this is the same guy who said I could invest $400k+ on the market with the knowledge no crash was coming soon (this was September last year), and look what happened there (I have already "lost" $100k).

So how many actual hours do you spend "learning" a week?

Jesus dude, with $400,000 I'd just stick it in a savings account with a decent interest rate.

Actually tbh I'd make a few hefty TAB bets here and there.

Chu 02-02-2009 10:24 PM

Hey, UOW and ANU are the same (UC is surprisingly different though).

Hell yeah for 3 course bludgers.

Edit: The thing is, money on the stock market is completely on paper, I put "lost" in quotes, because I haven't actually lost any money yet. Simply the value of the amount of stocks I own.

The investment was long term, so I'm not particularly worried (my parents on the other hand, who are both approaching retirement, have been hit hard).

I also put some money into property (I have 1 house in my name, and gave my dad a little over $200k for our house (to help with the mortgage), though it's not in my name).

Aaron 02-02-2009 10:25 PM

Woot!

Aaron 02-02-2009 10:25 PM
So how many actual hours do you spend "learning" a week?
Well I don't attend lectures, only tutorials, so 4.

gaslight 02-02-2009 10:27 PM

Haha. Dude, sweet life.

That's only 2 hours more than me and I can't have travel concessions anymore :upset:.

I_WEAR_RED_PANTS 02-02-2009 10:27 PM

i'm a full time student as of next tuesday so what does that mean for me?

gaslight 02-02-2009 10:35 PM

From what I've gathered, no special money from this government thing but you'll be eligible for student discounts on appropriate things from the second you get your student card.

I used to pay $19 for a weekly train ticket to the city, now I gotta pay $38 if I want one. Hopefully I won't be going to the city that often though.

Damn.

horseypie 02-02-2009 10:54 PM

oi aaron

how many hours do you have to do a week or whatever to be considered a full time worker?

Aaron 02-02-2009 10:57 PM

AFAIK more than 32.

gaslight 02-02-2009 11:00 PM

Yeah that sounds right.

Also, most places will either hire you specifically as full time or part time in your job description. Pay rates are different I believe.

Aaron 02-02-2009 11:00 PM

32 hours is 4 days a week. So it's basically more than 4.

I_WEAR_RED_PANTS 02-02-2009 11:03 PM

oi aaron snd me that picture again, i have my phone back

Aaron 02-02-2009 11:10 PM

Done. Post it here if you've got usb-trickery.

gaslight 02-02-2009 11:16 PM

So, I want a chin-up bar in my house but I can't screw one into a door frame or anything else because we rent.

Using the collective powers of your thinking, what solutions are available?

big80smullet 02-02-2009 11:19 PM

roof beam in garage

gaslight 02-02-2009 11:21 PM

Not bad, I like it. Any more?
