As I said, I probaly left out some stuff out, like the autograph, and I live in Pacific time, so it was 7:50 here. I still thought I did a half decne job on that bio. I didn't want to make it to long or no one would read it.
Since you mentioned Pete Best you probably should have mentioned Stewart Sutcliffe(sp?) as well, but I thought you did a good job regardless.

Seafroggys 12-08-2005 11:47 PM

Stu was John's best friend, after all

Leper 12-09-2005 12:19 AM

Reading the Anthology book really made me feel sorry Stu for the way they treated him, especially considering the fact that he was John's best friend.

I thought of mentioning their first bassist Stu, but decided againts it. I'm not really sure why I didn't mention, as he was a key part of the Beatles early career. I just mntioned Pete so I could sort of explain why they got Ringo.
Anyone else agree that Watching The Wheels is just about the greatest song ever?
Word. That song is incredible.

Magical_Mystery_Tour 12-09-2005 08:35 PM

Is their no other #9 dream fans out there. Watching the Wheels is a good song, but I like #9 dream better. Anyone agree?

El_Goodo 12-11-2005 02:51 AM

Yes Watching The Wheels is definetley better than #9 Dream!

Does anyone else like the song Well, Well, Well I think it's a kickass rock song!

Leper 12-12-2005 01:10 AM

I don't think I've ever heard it...:-/

It was off Plastic Ono Band and is an amzing song. Bit different from the rest of the album too...

Chris2401 12-12-2005 02:42 PM

Hey guys wassup?
Listening to Twist and shout - John's vocals are crazy on this one!!!!

Leper 12-13-2005 01:40 AM
It was off Plastic Ono Band and is an amzing song. Bit different from the rest of the album too...
Thanks, I'll be sure to check it out.
Hey guys wassup?

John actually blew out his vocal chords recording that song:eek:

clown_phobia 12-13-2005 02:47 AM

Well they'd been recording all day, and they knew they wouldnt have another chance. John's vocals chords were shredded, so they knew they only had one take, and they nailed it.

His vocals are quite a nice effect and it has made their version unique and memorable.

rockinbass17 12-13-2005 09:51 PM

Twist and Shout is probably my favorite pre-Help! Beatles song. Love Lennon's vocals, a performance that very few rock songs have matched.

Jacaranda 12-13-2005 10:11 PM

I'll have to go with "We can work it out!" I looove that song.

Leper 12-14-2005 12:31 AM
I'll have to go with "We can work it out!" I looove that song.
Great song. It seems like we get into these pre-Help Beatles discussions as though the good songs are few and far between...it's understandable though. Not saying I don't like the songs, as there are very few I don't like, but they're so different that I can see why we talk about them like this.

clown_phobia 12-14-2005 12:41 AM
I'll have to go with "We can work it out!" I looove that song.
We can work it out is Post-help, it was released with day tripper simultaneaously (sp?) with Rubber Soul.

Well Well WEll is great, but I like I Found Out more (and I find they're both similar)

and yeah how many times have we talked about Twist and Shout in this thread ;)

Leper 12-14-2005 01:01 AM

That's true, good call CP. I always just assumed it was a pre-help song.

heinrichkuhn 12-14-2005 04:09 AM

I originally heard songs like 'Across The Universe' and 'The Long And Winding Road' with all the snazzy production work and I grew to love them so I don't really enjoy the versions off Naked

Jacaranda 12-14-2005 07:30 AM

Well I'll be damned, I just always figured it was Pre-Rubber Soul.

I grew up with the original versions as well, but I was never a huge fan of the Let it Be tracks until Naked came out.

Magical_Mystery_Tour 12-15-2005 11:54 AM

I always liked Can't buy me Love as my fav pre-help Beatles song. But recently I have discovered a couple tunes of Beatles for Sale. No Reply is a great John song and I'll Follow the Sun is a beautiful Paul song.

DeusExMachina 12-15-2005 11:54 AM

I'll Follow the Sun is amazing.

Seafroggys 12-15-2005 01:26 PM

eh I've never really liked Can't Buy Me Love that much, one of the more annoying Beatles tracks.....

Now another Hard Day's Night song worth swooning over? I should have known better. In fact my alternative band is covering that :D

DeusExMachina 12-15-2005 08:18 PM

It Won't Be Long is an amazing song. Holy crap.

blue3 12-15-2005 08:23 PM

Yeah, it's a good song. A lot of their songs are..

DeusExMachina 12-15-2005 08:47 PM
Yeah, it's a good song. A lot of their songs are..
 That was a profound statement.:p
Yeah, it's a good song. All of their songs are..
There you go! I seriously can't think of an actual song (with exlcudes wild honey pie) that I don't enjoy listening to. I even like listening to Revolution Number 9. The only songs that I have any dis-like for are Paperback Writer and there cover of the song Three Cool Cats of their anthology.....I hate that song lol...and Paperback Writer when I first heard it, I didn't like it at all, but now i've grown to enjoy it, but it still will never make a top 50 list!

And too the previous posts...I Should Have Known Better is a freaking awesome song, when I watched A Hard Days Night on Much Music as soon as I heard that song I was freaking out lol I was like wow that's insanely catchy!

And also It Wont Be Long is also really awesome, I love the chorus with the back and forth between John and Paul.

boss 12-17-2005 03:09 AM

and there's you can't do that
great guitar opening

Bus 12-17-2005 10:40 AM

There are only a few Beatles songs I don't like (Paperback Writer, Lady Madonna, like two off White Album disc 2, and a few off Let It Be). They definently knew what they were doing.

MBS 12-17-2005 11:52 AM
Lady Madonna
wtf, good song!

Seriously, when Paul played it for the sound check at his concert, although it was a sound check, it was friggen' amazing.

joshmac 12-17-2005 12:07 PM

I am the Walrus , Ob-la di Ob la Da , and the Ballad of John And Yoko are my favorite beatles songs , although i like almost all of their songs.

JonG 12-17-2005 12:08 PM

I've already listened to Revolver and 1962-1966. Eight Days A Week is amazing. Aswell as the solo in In My Life.

I also got a cool Revolver shirt yesterday.

You still want to do something for the cover contest?

I just bought the Concert for Bangladesh DVD for my dad for Christmas, I can't wait until I can watch it with him.

BlindWriting 12-17-2005 12:43 PM

I just gave Abby Road my personally long-awaited first listen in about ten years. Great music. The highlights definitely were Come Together, Octopus's Garden, I Want You, Here Comes The Sun, Because, and Sun King.

Next up is Sgt. Pepper's..., followed by the 1 compilation.

robo2448 12-17-2005 12:44 PM

What's with the hate for Paperback Writer. That's an awesome song.

I don't think there are any Beatles songs that I dislike. There may be a few that I don't really care for but they are all fun to listen to. I used to hate Wild Honey Pie but even that has grown on me. Actually I'm not a big fan of regular Honey Pie, that might be one of my least favorite songs.

Edit- Cocert for Bangladesh DVD owns. Good choice.
