I'm all up for doing the vocals for some of the songs. My flu is finally on the way out, so I'll try my hardest to get those done as soon as possible.

TheDMV 07-04-2005 08:22 PM
I liked that part too, shows that they were having fun.

A few people got to go right? Med, I think?
YEah, they had there diffrences but they are back together now and enjoying it.

ALso, I got WYWH on Friday and It's awesome. I don't really like SOYCD that much though. I thought the middle three tracks were better. I should give SOYCD a closer listen though. I would say my favorite is the title track or Have a Cigar.

*Maybe know I can do my reveiw for WYWH :o Are we still doing those, because I don't think I'll have the time to write mine.

Alessandro 07-04-2005 08:25 PM
That's really cool

One thing that came to mind when I was watching Live8 was how the Latin American continent went completely unrepresented except, of course, for Shakira I guess since you saw in in Brazil uncut, and we in the US UK and Canada couldn't watch it without commentarty, South America had better representation than the English-Speaking world
Thats true  We had a full coverage from 9:00 am to 21:00 pm (local time) it was just great.

Shazzam 07-04-2005 11:09 PM

I just got back from my cottage with no cable, so I still havn't even seen it yet (I know, I know).

I'm in the process of downloading it right now.

Welcome to the Machine is a track that I could see getting annoying, but HaC is an awesome song IMO

magicbus 07-05-2005 03:41 PM

I love every song on WYWH, some more than others, but I think they are all great.

MBS 07-05-2005 04:05 PM

Have a Cigar is a brilliant song. I find that Welcome to the Machine can get a bit, uhh.. monotonous and the synthesizers annoy the crap out of me.

But Wish You Were Here is perfection in a song.

WheepingGuitar39 07-05-2005 04:29 PM

Pink Floyd was offered 200 Million $ to tour the world, but refused.

Pink Floyd is pretty much perfection in a band

What? Could you at least quote something?

Dr. Jake Destructo 07-05-2005 06:24 PM

You dudes should do Have a Cigar for the cover comp. It would be great. So the line up so far would be

Aaron-guitar
Jason- vocals
??

Killtacular 07-05-2005 06:28 PM

I love Welcome to the Machine. More than Have a Cigar.

robo2448 07-05-2005 06:31 PM

I like Have A Cigar much better. I think Welcome to the Machine has great lyrics and vocals, but it doesn't have the incredible intro or guitar soloing that Have A Cigar does.

Dr. Jake Destructo 07-05-2005 06:46 PM

Welcome to the Machine drags on a little too long. Have a Cigar is just overall awesome. The intro is one of my favorite 'riffs.' The combination of Roger's bassline and Gilmour's guitar remind me oddly of Lousianna, as wierd as that may sound. When I'm listening to it, I picture swamps and alligators. :-/ Wierd, eh?

That's a bit strange, yes.

Then again, Wish You Were Here reminds me of Lords of Dogtown.

Probably because it was in that movie...

Yes, a little wierd. But I agree with you about Have A Cigar. I love how the soloing fades out in the end.

Not too wierd

Hendrix's The Wind Cries Mary reminds me of the lavafields of Iceland, subtley covered in patches of yellow-green moss, rolling on beyond sight until they reach the pounding ice cold waves of the north atlantic

Not all too strange. The intro has a very vintage sound, and the bass is very rich. It's a deep overall tone; This could give the illusion of the song being of a roots or country, or even a jam band.

The intro has a 'grassroots' sound to it, though it doesn't sound like country; more like old rock and roll. It differs from PF's usual space rock sound, so I see where you're coming from.

I don't like how the solo fades out, I would rather just hear it fully. To me, it's an awesome solo. Sometimes I think that Pink Floyd is over-produced; There are too many effects and extra sounds on some songs.

meh I think it's cool. It is a great solo though, but I find you have to kind of concentrate on it to really hear it. Otherwise the whooshing noise kind of overshadow it.

Dr. Jake Destructo 07-05-2005 07:38 PM

It is quite the awesome solo. It's a very different kind of solo for Gilmour. Again, it has that 'bayou' feel to it.

DMV- Avoid double posting, please. :)

Pickaholic 07-05-2005 07:38 PM

The way their music sounds is the way they wanted it to sound. Their producer only told them what he liked / didn't like.

I only double post when there are two diffrent topics like that. It's not like I was spamming. I didn't wait for someone else to post but it's a rare occaison where I double post.

EDIT: THe main reason though is that I wanted to quote him, so I hit reply.

magicbus 07-05-2005 07:57 PM

The "Have a Cigar" solo is one of my favorite one's to play. I spent all day yesterday playing that one, the Comfortably Numb solo, the Hey You solo, etc. I was on a Floyd buzz.

Another interesting, but very cool, solo is the one from "Childhood's End". That's really simple, but it just stands out to me. Gilmour rules, basically.

BlackHole 07-05-2005 08:16 PM

hey hey, i'm still here, i still play bass, and i'm still interested in doing some floyd covers...

My recording equpiment isnt great (its, uh, the computer mic...) but i can see what i can do...

guitarded_chuck 07-05-2005 08:29 PM

Have A Cigar is a great song. I like Roger's bass on the song and the solo is fun too. It's one of my favorite Floyd songs to jam to on guitar. I think it would have been cooler if Waters of Gilmour sang the song on the album though.

By the way, who sang Have A Cigar live?

Roger does, I have a bootleg

Anyone notice the close up of the factory on the cover of Animals during the Live 8 PF concert?

Shazzam 07-05-2005 09:07 PM

Have A Cigar reminds me of space travel...

Maybe it's the swirly phasers.

TheDMV 07-05-2005 09:12 PM

So that was the actual animals cover. That's cool; where is that?

boobjet 07-05-2005 09:12 PM

i didnt look through all 217 pages to see if this has been asked but, i was wondering if there was a site or some other form, with footage of them playing at live 8

Pickaholic 07-05-2005 09:24 PM

Yes.

I recall seeing the flying pig. It's a shame they couldn't have a long set to play Dogs. I would have loved to hear Gilmour tear the hell out of all of those solos.

123, that would have been incredible to see.

I'm sure I've said it in this thread before but on the Gilmour live DVD you can very faintly hear someone say "Play something from Animals!"

Gilmour responds in the mic "No, we'll be here all night!"

Dr. Jake Destructo 07-05-2005 11:26 PM

 What DVD is that from? Is it a Gilmour solo deal? I have Live in Pompeii. It's great to see PF in their prime.
 What DVD is that from? Is it a Gilmour solo deal? I have Live in Pompeii. It's great to see PF in their prime.
It's a Gilmour solo dealie.

I'll ask him about it later.

Shazzam 07-06-2005 09:52 AM

Yeah, I just picked up that DVD and it's great. Gilmour is faboulus on the Comfortably Numb solos, along with just about everything else.

magicbus 07-06-2005 11:38 AM

So the Gilmour solo dvd is worth getting? Does he play electric stuff too, or just acoustic?

EDIT to Gilmour: Then I'm going out and buying it today :thumb:
