Lacks the quality guitar/drum work I've come to expect from Mike, Peter and Martin L.
IMO |
Ah, but the great basslines, vocals and keyboards more than make up for the absense of pounding drums and soaring solos...

I bought my third Opeth cd today (Ghost reveries) i have to say after listening 3 times. It is like being kicked in the balls repeatidly, than having them gently touched with loving care. .....Than gently Punching them while it hurts and feels good.
I suck at explaining, but man does that cd Pwn :) |
Agreed, the instruments that didn't shine as much on the previous albums do stand out more (sept vocals, they've always been quality and they shine on this cd)... but the guitar work is one the key aspects that made me love this band... Good concept to.
...IMO Edit: this was to deth, and faith... untill your last statement, I wasn't sure if you liked it or not. |

I disagree. Its the funniest I've ever seen. :D
|
I got my 7th Opeth album yesterday, and I'm still yet to be disappointed in an album. They're amazing. I still haven't been able to find morning rise though :upset:
Lacks the quality guitar/drum work I've come to expect from Mike, Peter and Martin L.
IMO
What? It has some of the best drumming to date, second only to the Dam nation album IMO. |
It sucks. Its the worst part of the song, its a good bass line but man does that tone suck...
Bleaks nothing special. And "What would they care if I was gay, noone would know, hooooooomooooo" is a crappy vocal line. :D Glad I got that off my chest...
Urrong. That part is the best part of the song. The Moor >>> Godhead. |
The Moor > Godhead's Lament
It's a fact. |
I think you are right, but it's a close one
but the accoitsic part and the scream on The Moor can't be beaten |
Not to mention the catchyness of that "Pale touch" line. The Moor is awesome the whole 11 min, Godhead just has a few good parts.
And Det_Nosnip, D&D both have better drumming then Ghost Reveries... I found it boreing on Ghost, or at least average. Deliverance had a nice raw brutality to it, which totally fit... the heavy parts of this new album lacked the aggressive drumming. |

Yeah, its decent but Martin could have done better me thinks...
|
THe only thing Godhead has on The Moor is the vocal melodies on the clean-singing parts.
|
Face of Melinda owns them both.
/wins the argument. :D |
I still haven't been able to find Morningrise though :upset:
eBay, brother! Black Rose Immortal > Face of Melinda |
Naaaaaaaaaaah, that last electric riff owns anything the bands done.
|
Stop lying. You're letting God maul far too many fluffy kittens.
|
eBay, brother!
:thumb: I'll be getting my credit card soon, and I think I'm going to go CD-shopping crazy :D |
..is that a referance to that picture that says "everytime you masterbate, god kills a kitten" thing? If so, I don't see how that applies to this situation.
|
Face of Melinda owns them both.
/wins the argument. :D
I never found that song mind-blowing. Godhead and Serenity Painted Death are my favorite on the album. I can tell we will be getting in an argument again tonight :-/. |

I can tell we will be getting in an argument again tonight :-/.
You better believe it. I forgot about Serenity, that song is really cool. I just think that Opeth have yet to write another riff that is as powerfull/emotional as the Face Of melinda riff.
"Everytime you lie, God mauls a fluffy kitten."
Never heard that one before... |
I think the acoustic riff in the middle of A Fair Judgement is really emotional.
|
Not more then Face of Melinda dude. Next time you've had a hard day, when you go to bed late at night and its dark in your room, just play that song and listen to it with your eyes closed. Thats what did it for me.
|
Oh snap. Now it's on.
|
It is? Wheres your argument?
|
That was the pre-emptive "oh snap" announcing that it's on.
First, acoustic riffs almost always have more emotion, especially in this case. It's production is astounding, the crackly thing only helps it. It's so perfect, and then the vocals come in and the riff is the greatest thing ever. Oh, and the solo after owns beyond belief. |
Yeah, acoustic has lots of emotion. Face Of Melinda is jam packed with them if you haven't noticed. The trebely guitars over Mikeals voice at the end of the song is also magic sounding. Besides Face Of Melinda is one of Mikeals favorite Opeth songs. :p
But then again so is Bleak... :upset: |
self-pwned.
|
Regardless, Face Of Melinda > A Fair Judgement. :D
I love A Fair Judgement to, by the way. Lets not argue anymore. We like different Opeth. :thumb: :chug: |
black rose immortal>>>>>every metal song ever
black rose immortal>>>>>every metal song ever
I would tend to agree with this. |
Lets not argue anymore. We like different Opeth. :thumb: :chug:
Arguing was keeping the thread lively. |
black rose immortal>>>>>every metal song ever
I think that song is too scattered. It does have it's moments though. |
True.
New argument topic - Barring To Bid You Farewell, To Rid the Disease is the best acoustic Opeth song written. Debate! |

I'm getting pretty stoked. The big O is coming to not one, but two shows I'd be able to go to in November. I might just go to both.
