Okkervil River - Black Sheep Boy (6.9/10)
I like them more than Bright Eyes.

I've been so allured by Fugazi, Against Me! and The Slackers lately. Especially The Slackers.

The NPC 06-03-2005 03:03 PM

The Nercos

Wanker 06-03-2005 09:45 PM
What I've listened to for the first time today:

1 Speed Bike - Droopy Butt Begone! (8.5/10)
I'd probably give that a 7/10... :-/

Yuppy Resturant Goers Beware..., My Kitchen Is..., and The Day That Mauro Ran Over Elwy Yost are really good. A few tracks are meh and the rest sound the same.

A third of the album sounds like Can sans everything but percussion.

Tangy zizzle 06-03-2005 10:58 PM

New Malkmus record is good.

Devin Davis- Lonely people of the world, unite!!!

This album just floors me everytime I listen to it. It's filled with saxaphones, pianos and backup singers (Every instrument was recorded by Devin Davis, btw). The whole album is around 35 minutes, (most songs are around 3 minutes long) which means there is rarely a dull part in any song, and can go from a 60's brit invasion sound to Pink Floyd psychedellia too pop punk in an instant. The lyrics are another standout thing on this album, dealing with everything from vikings to pirates to a turtle that helps a flightless bird.
This is one of the best records I've heard all year, and I'm pretty sure I already know whos going to be on the top of my 'best album of 2005' list.

Tomahawk 06-04-2005 09:49 AM

That sounds pretty interesting, I'm gonna check it out.
Devin Davis- Lonely people of the world, unite!!!
I've downloaded a couple songs from his website. I like his stuff. When he does that little "wooo-o-woo-a-whoo" on "Deserted Eyeland," I think of Stephen Malkmus. I mean to pick the album some time.

Zappa 06-04-2005 04:46 PM

The samples on the Shpongle website from the new album. I'm also digging their old stuff in anticipation.

Tangy zizzle 06-04-2005 06:27 PM

I don't like the new Shpongle samples at all, I'm sad.

Squarepusher is about the only electronic shit I can take these days.

I must have been in a really weird mood because I was thinking I was going to hate it but I played it on my mp3 player just walking round the house doing random stuff and loved it. Maybe it was just a weird day.

Weird.

Tangy zizzle 06-04-2005 09:06 PM

I know, it is weird. I've kinda gone off all modern electronica. I can still take Aphex Twin and slight doses of DJ Shadow, but Autechre, Squarepusher and Prefuse 73( and other monikers) is all I listen to frequently.

Zappa 06-04-2005 09:14 PM

I'm a Shpongle and Squarepusher only kind of guy, basically.

YDload 06-04-2005 09:56 PM

Mr. Bungle is cool. I need to get "California" right away.

Tangy zizzle 06-04-2005 09:59 PM

I always thought you liked them Ian?

Anyways, just found a Jerk With a Bomb record. They're cool, but not Black Mountain cool.

Has anyone checked out the new Julian Cope album yet? It's pretty badass, probably his best since Jehovah Kill.

I really like Prefuse 73.

Yeah but I don't have the album yet. Originally I was gravitating toward Disco Volante but now I think California has more of the focused quirkiness I was looking for.

Bartender 06-05-2005 12:09 AM

Devin Townsend - Terria
Afghan Whigs - John the Baptist

That's about all I've had time for.

I'm seriously loving Iron & Wine's Woman King EP.

Amazing stuff, right there.

That's a great EP.

I'm listening to a lot of Guero by Beck lately.

Interstate 06-05-2005 04:55 AM

What I've listened to today (so far):

A Silver Mount Zion - Pretty Little Lightning Paw EP (It's pretty good but it's a bit different from their other stuff.)

ZZ Top - El Loco

Beck - Guero (listening to it for the first time, just listened to the first 2 tracks - brilliant stuff)

Tangy zizzle 06-05-2005 05:16 AM

ZZ Top don't get much love these days, I'm glad to see you dig 'em lostandalone.

Their 3 earliest records are the ****.

br3ad_man 06-05-2005 05:19 AM

Coldplay's new album is a funny one. There is some good stuff and some godawful stuff. I'd say that overall, they've gone down. The new album has some of the best stuff yet though.

Tangy zizzle 06-05-2005 05:23 AM

I was surprised that it hasn't been heralded as the best rock album since OK Computer.

I mean, they are the new Radiohead aren't they??

br3ad_man 06-05-2005 05:24 AM

Apparently.

Tangy zizzle 06-05-2005 05:26 AM

I've never liked Coldplay (except Trouble, that shizz cuts me deep) so I'll give you my opinion now.

The album huffs a fat one.

br3ad_man 06-05-2005 05:32 AM

I never thought of Coldplay as being a "Matty band".

Tangy zizzle 06-05-2005 05:35 AM

Hehe, yeah I loves me some distortion.

You know who I do kinda like though? Travis.

I listened to their album a couple times on a car trip the other day, it's nice. 6.5/10.

br3ad_man 06-05-2005 05:42 AM

I find Travis pretty mediocore. Pretty nice though. 6/10

I'm going to bed man. Talk to you later.

Tangy zizzle 06-05-2005 05:45 AM

Love, Peace & Chicken Grease.

talk show host 06-05-2005 06:06 AM

I heard the new Foo's album yesterday. Well, the first disc at least. It was a bit meh really.

yesterday was a day for:

Autechre - Amber
Four Tet - Pause
Minor Threat - Complete Discography

I Was A Kaleidoscope 06-05-2005 07:52 AM

Worst song on Guero award goes to: Broken Drum.

*points at avatar*

I can't find that CD anywhere. Better than Feast of Wire? A little less eclectic I'd say.

I Was A Kaleidoscope 06-05-2005 08:22 AM
I've been lovin the new Foo Fighters song, Best of You. It's easily the best song i've heard from them. New album should be good hopefully.
Best song I've heard from them is Monkey Wrench.
