I just think the casual music listener overplays what they like the sound of. If they think the band sounds good they must be damn talented musicians. Im not saying that you're not worth listening to if you cant shred or whatever its just how alot of people see it.

Amit 01-25-2007 09:14 PM

tbh i think 99% of all people can't accept the fact that music that they enjoy doesn't have to automatically be technical masterpieces played by virtuosos :-(

MattSharpIsCool 01-25-2007 09:16 PM

I like Zeppelin a lot, I've got like 4 of their albums. But there are a lot of people like this...
listen to jimmy page wank for 30 minutes hurrrrr go john bonham drum solo hurrrr
and it can get a little annoying.

rippa32 01-25-2007 10:27 PM
tbh i think 99% of all people can't accept the fact that music that they enjoy doesn't have to automatically be technical masterpieces played by virtuosos :-(
That's another thing. Although to disregard technical ability altogther is a little silly.

MattSharpIsCool 01-25-2007 10:30 PM

Eh, I listen to Weezer, Green Day and Blink 182 and neither can claim to be a technically gifted band. They convey enough feeling through their lyrics and power chords for me.
I just went to see Roger last night in Sydney, holy crap it was awesome.

His voice was so much better than i thought it would be, and i couldn't have been much happier with the setlist. The lights and effects were awesome, they had his pig as usual, a big astronaut floating around the arena, and many explosions <_<

Who else went?
Awesome :smoke:

I'm seeing him next thursday in Melbourne. It's probably the most excited I've been for a concert in a long while.

IT'S ROGER WATERS 4FUKSAKE :)

MattSharpIsCool 01-25-2007 11:01 PM

So I'm listening to DSOTM on headphones as I type this. Right now I'm on Great Gig....I shall give a full report when the CD is through.

Don't forget the dual guitars in Any Colour!!!

MattSharpIsCool 01-25-2007 11:31 PM

Ok, report:

Really cool. Especially the second half of the album, from Money on. As soon as the cash registers came in, and were switching headphones, that was pretty cool. On The Run was pretty awesome also.

And ya, Any Colour You Like was probably the best part.

Tomorrow, I'll try PATGOD.

Leper 01-25-2007 11:47 PM

It's a great album to listen to with headphones just before going to sleep. In fact I think I'll do that again tonight.

MattSharpIsCool 01-26-2007 12:12 AM

I was considering laying down and turning the lights off, but I still had stuff to do on the computer like....sit and not really do anything.

Jo Shoe Wah 01-26-2007 12:17 AM

I really enjoy Ambient and soothing music before i sleep, and Pink Floyd have definately got to be amongst my favourite before bed listens. Dark Side i find to be realllllllly relaxing, something like the Wall or The Final Cut are more haunting, and Wish You Were Here is many things when sifting through my semi concious thoughts. I haven't tried any of the others but The Division Bell would be nice to give a listen to, even despite the lack of Roger i think they've still done really well on that album.

By the way speaking of sounding better with headphones, anyone going to see Roger, just WAIT for the Quadrophonics, I loved it.

Rippa/Bahamut: Have a great time :) The other musicians that played with him i really thought did an amazing job too. Jon Carin from the PULSE tour was playing keys, as was Harry Waters, Rogers son :P

EDIT: Oh yeah, if you like Any Colour You Like on headphones, you're in for a treat :D

MattSharpIsCool 01-26-2007 12:27 AM

I have trouble listening to music while I'm trying to go to sleep, because I end up listening to the music.

Jo Shoe Wah 01-26-2007 01:13 AM

Well then that would be trouble sleeping wouldn't it :p

Yeah i dunno, certain music just calms me right down like that i spose.

rippa32 01-26-2007 01:45 AM

Im the same as MattSharp.

As for Waters, how was Snowy White like compared to David?

Riva 01-26-2007 02:41 AM

I really like Snowy White's work with Floyd, the solo in Pigs On The Wing Pt. 2, the live version from Montreal '77 that is, is just insanely good.

rippa32 01-26-2007 02:54 AM

Would it be alright if you uploaded it? If its not too much trouble.

mmmm best sleeping music out there

Jo Shoe Wah 01-26-2007 06:32 AM

Hehe i'll have to try those.

Snowy White was great, both my drummer and I thought he did a really great job and as i said earlier, i was much more happy with him, Andy and Dave than some of the other guitarists i've heard Roger play with.

Haha i don't know if he was kidding around or just plain messed up, but he almost introduced Dave as Gilmour

rippa32 01-26-2007 07:17 AM

Haha ok, ill see if he says the same thing when I see him.

magicbus 01-26-2007 08:35 AM

I always turn on music when I go to sleep, but I pay too much attention to it and don't fall asleep for like an hour in. It does give me some time to just lay down and listen though. Which can be nice for hearing parts you usually don't.

DSOTM used to be my sleeping music for a while, but the bells in Time always seemed to wake me up :p

Apocalyptic Raids 01-26-2007 09:52 AM

I don't listen to music when I go to sleep. I used to back when I was like 8 yrs old, but I haven't done it for years.
I really enjoy Ambient and soothing music before i sleep, and Pink Floyd have definately got to be amongst my favourite before bed listens.
The albums that i'm starting to listen to to ease me into sleep are Sigur Ros - () and dredg - El Cielo. Although I usually don't care unless I'm really tired because then I'll just listen to Pearl Jam or something else. I don't usually listen to Pink Floyd because I've had some really horrible dreams from listening to them when falling asleep.

ghettoeddo 01-26-2007 03:08 PM

haha horrible dreams while sleeping from PF

i can see that happening. that's the best part :smoke:

Yield 01-26-2007 03:11 PM

I'm serious. I was sleeping and listening to music and I passed out. All of a sudden I wake up and everything looks exactly the same, except there is someone in the corner of my room. I tried to get up, couldn't, and they came over to me. Then they were bending down towards me and I was about to yell but then I really woke up all sweaty. It sucked.

ghettoeddo 01-26-2007 03:20 PM

its like those guys from harry potter where they suck the soul out of you.

dammit i cant remember their name.

Yield 01-26-2007 04:22 PM

Yeah that's kind of like what it was, now that I think of it. I couldn't see who it was, like a shadow.

wiki'd it, they are called dementors. I don't really like Harry Potter though.

Jo Shoe Wah 01-26-2007 06:20 PM

Haha yes i can see bad dreams coming from Floyd.

Though i've had some strange yet relaxing and cool dreams alot from them too.

Echoes + Sleep = woahwoahwoah

Yield 01-26-2007 09:24 PM

The Trial + Sleep = AHHHHHH!!!

Jo Shoe Wah 01-26-2007 10:04 PM

Hahaha, yeahh. Set the Controls i can imagine would have an even eerier effect whilst sleeping.

Hmm, how about the first In the Flesh? = Instant wake up when the engines come roaring in haha
