Oh yeah Imagine is perfect, in fact its the perfect song. My only complaint about it is that the drums are too dead, they need a bit of reverb IMO.

You know the song "I Will" off of White Album?

Well, what's that "duh duh duh" sound in the background? It bugs me. :(

It's Paul playing "vocal bass"

It's a fun song to sing with two people, one on bass, one on lead

I feel that way with a lot of songs on the White Album. They just have little elements that are annoying. I think one interesting thing, though, is how a lot (if not all) songs on it end with a little random bit, and all those random bits appear in Revolution 9.

But doesn't Paul sing vocals!?

Is Paul beatboxing?

ween2424 09-01-2005 08:24 PM

I find the Beatles overrated.

I find I don't care. Please back up opinions if you're going to walk into a thread dedicated to a band and say you don't like the band.

They could have recorded it on a different track. They had to have had at least 4-tracks by 1968-- The Grateful Dead had 16 in 1969
Paul did double-tack harmonies with himself as early as 1963 with "A Taste of Honey" on Please Please Me, so it's definatly possible

I read somewhere that it was Paul, but I guess it could be any one of them. Sometimes, rarely, I can't tell them apart. Like who screams "She loves you yeah yeah yeah" at the end of All You Need Is Love?

I'm not saying I don't like them, I just don't understand why their the biggest band ever. Then again, I haven't really heard alot of the Beatles' stuff, mostly popular stuff. I don't know what I'm talking about. I'm done.

I always thought that was Paul. But, I could be wrong.

That's right, you haven't heard enough to base an opinion. Listen to most of their later albums, then return with your opinion.

This thread wasn't started just so you could make fun of them.

DeusExMachina 09-01-2005 09:26 PM

Moving on...

I'm going to see McCartney in just over a month! I'm really excited.

TheBeatlesarecoming 09-01-2005 09:50 PM

The Beatles were amazing. Do you think they would have been as good if they were from any other era? How do you think there music would have changed?

Or don't return, it doesn't matter to us :D

Seafroggys 09-01-2005 11:00 PM

Beatles got 4 track for their second album "With the Beatles", and finally got 8 track at Abbey Road for the album, well, "Abbey Road" though they had an 8 track at Apple Studios for the "let it Be" album.

 page 3 omg!

I'll bump this up by asking: Who do you think was the better singer, Paul or John?

Me and my girlfriend were talking about this today. I insist that Paul was better for obvious reasons (just listen to both of them sing!) but she says John was better because his voice "fit his songs".

Tough one. I personally like John's voice more, but Paul's voice is great too. Helter Skelter has some great singing by Paul, but I feel that John is able to sing with more emotion.

Walrus Gumboot 09-02-2005 06:54 PM

I think Paul's is the better, but John's voice was so expressive. It grows on my still when Paul's becaomes boring

robo2448 09-02-2005 07:17 PM

I think that Paul's voice has actually improved over the years. His vocals on Helter Skelter at Live 8 were amazing and better than his original vocals for that song IMO.

rockinbass17 09-02-2005 07:28 PM

I like Paul's voice better alone, but I feel both of them singing together sounds better than either of the apart, for that's a definate part of The Beatels sound.

CockeyedMaverik 09-02-2005 08:41 PM

personally whoever sings let it be is the best singer. I love whoever that is.

edit: I love john lennons voice in imagine though. I think that song alone makes his solo career the most worthwhile.

DeusExMachina 09-02-2005 08:51 PM

I think Paul is a more talented singer, but John's singing is more expressive. They're both great, though.

BludgeonySteve 09-02-2005 09:45 PM

It's hard to compare. I think that they're pretty even. All of the Beatles were good singers, though.

Jacaranda 09-02-2005 09:46 PM

Sorry to change subjects but I was watching the History channel and it was talking about why David Chapman killed John Lennon, and he did it to be famous which really pissed me off. Then it showed people talking about how he was alive and it was just a joke and I found myself teary eyed. :upset: I dunno I just had to mention that.

Seafroggys 09-02-2005 11:03 PM

Paul was technically better, but John had the better voice as far as sound quality goes.

Both are good, don't get me wrong, and together oh **** man! But John's performance on Imagine is literally unbeatable by anyone else.

I actually really like the drums on that song

DeusExMachina 09-03-2005 08:45 AM

Everyone mentions Lennon's "hard rock singing," but I never think of him as the hard rock singer of the group. That title always goes to McCartney, in my opinion.

As for the drums on Imagine, I don't notice them much. But, I'm not a drummer, so I don't notice the drums much on most songs.

He didnt do it to be famous. I watched something on the life channel yesterday called John Lennon: The Man Who Shot. And Dave Chapman said he did it because of the book the catcher in the rye. He was following the book, and he believed John Lennon was a big phony. It's really messed up.

And if you listen to the plastic ono band, or twist and shout you will see why we talk about John Lennon's rock n roll singing.
