So, here's a high quality video of the new song:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hwsbUUEOT9g

The song sounds good. Vocals don't sound that good.
That video is much better than the other one I posted. I have a firm belief that the song is gonna sound A LOT better in studio, especially vox and the solos.:thumb:

Actually yeah, thinking about the greying issue, my old music lecturer was grey at 28. He smokes like a frikkin' chimmney and loves getting wasted that might explain it.

Nepenthe 08-01-2006 07:09 PM

I just saw the cover of Metallica's 'Power Metal Demo', and it's ****in cool.

Chu 08-01-2006 08:31 PM
Not really. I think it's average.

My mum starting going grey at 20 something \m/
I knew a guy in high school who was going grey
He would have been about 15 max..

Aw3someman 08-01-2006 08:42 PM

I really don't care about James' beard. But his voice was really crappy in that vid. Oh and that was a pretty sweet solo from Kirk. (No Wah!)
I really don't care about James' beard.
Well we do!

Huber 08-01-2006 09:53 PM

I thought the part where him and Rob sang were some good vox.

Chu 08-01-2006 09:56 PM

Trying to downpick Master of Puppets after spending so long alt. picking is a real bastard.

Where I would usually do an upstroke I have to consciously tell myself not to.. Kinda frustrating.

I hate that so much too! OMG for the longest time I was told to alt pick so many riffs, played them for ages, then I find out MoP and most Metallica sounds 10 times better down picked and I try it and the song all of the sudden becomes really difficult.

Chu 08-01-2006 10:07 PM

I love alt. picking, and whenever I'm playing with someone, I'll alt. pick, but I just want the downpicking practice.

To be able to say "Yeah, I can downpick Master of Puppets  " would be pretty cool I reckon :p

Blackened is a fun one to start out training the cold hard downpicking with. Personally I found Blackened to be much easier than MoP in a whole.:thumb:

Jev 08-02-2006 05:09 AM

I used to be able to Downpick MOP.

But then I started alt. picking everything and now I can't.

Prince Charming 08-02-2006 06:00 AM
Yeah, I'm really worried about James' voice. Other than that, though, the song is great. The lack of wah in Kirk's solo made me happy.
James can't sing for shit.

It's a tight song, but needs none of his horrid vox.
You know. If they boosted up the tempo to like double time, that song would actually sound really good. If you got rid of Hetfield that is. =/
Agreed. It's just dragging tempo wise. Good riffs, but needs a lot more speed.

pate 08-02-2006 11:34 AM

Same here. I could downpick it all when I'd only been playing like 5 months. But now, 4 years later, I can't.

Jev 08-02-2006 11:35 AM

Or maybe we thought we could but in reality sucked.

and now we know we can't...

pate 08-02-2006 11:41 AM

Oh, I could. I had some recorded versions from back then lying around, and I gave them a listen like last year. It was passable. Except for the solos. EECK.

Jaundice 08-02-2006 03:34 PM

I can downpick MOP easily, and have been able to for a while. I'm not bragging or anything, it just never really struck me as difficut. I could probably downpick it at a faster speed in the song. It just gets tiresome having to go on with eigth notes all the way until the pre-chorus.

I couldn't finish the new Metallica song. I got like two minutes into it and it still hadn't gone anywhere other than mediocre (in my opinion) riffing, and it was eight minutes, so I've put listening to it off until a later time. I did notice that it seemed to have a bit more to it (leads, structure) than some works off of St. Anger.

It really doesn't get good until James stops singing. At least, the instrumental part in the middle is the best part of the song.

Jaundice 08-02-2006 03:52 PM

I just listened to it in its entirety. James' vocals are a bit of a downer, and the chorus is screaming Re-Load, but some of the riffs are good, and I'd say the solo is pretty good. Not the beautiful, emotional solos that I like best, but the in-your-face metal solos with substance, which is great. So overall it's fairly good.

It does scream Reload.

Yessss sir! urright

Jev 08-03-2006 04:49 AM

The verse sounds like a song off Load/Reload. Someone mentioned it before but I forget which song it is.

Yeah, not too bad, my dog died which sucked for a while, but otherwise it's good.
Playing a lot of guitar these days, I'm loving it.. Finally able to play the songs I write :p

What's been happening on your side of the fence?

Cantar 08-03-2006 10:24 PM

I'd appreciate it if you could help me with this. I'm looking to buy another Metallica album. Which one would you recommend if I really liked "The Black Album"?

Thanks :)

pate 08-03-2006 10:26 PM

Much better. I recommend you ...And Justice for All and Ride the Lightning. Both are superior to the Black Album, IMO.

blue3 08-03-2006 10:45 PM

Master of Puppets, too. After all these years, that's still my favorite album by them.

pate 08-03-2006 10:52 PM

Eh, it's one of my least favorite. But oh well. Hooray for differing tastes.

blue3 08-03-2006 10:59 PM

Haha, yay, I guess.

Apocalyptic Raids 08-04-2006 12:25 AM

Just get Master of Puppets. blue is right, it's their best.

blue3 08-04-2006 12:27 AM

Fuck yes I'm right.
