I would consider it more pop, maybe Pop Rock, but back in the days I suppose he was Rock. But I've never really respected Elvis because most of his songs (To my knowing) were written by other people and given to him because of his imagine.
His stuff that he wrote for movies, now that was pop. Basically wrecked his career too. His early stuff, the stuff that wasn't influenced by Hollywood, now that was good rock. |
I've got it in my inbox, I'll check it out.
65'-------->'77/'78'/'79* *the years in which it died off Most of the god stuff was like JonG said, 65'-->75' altough there were good/great releases before and after that. |
Thanks for the Otis. Good stuff.
65-75 sounds about right with releases coming before and after that but that seems to be the real prime of the classic rock era. My parents have an Elvis Christmas cd. I never listen to it, but I probably should sometimes. I like some Elvis that I've heard, but Buddy Holly > Elvis. np- Bruce Springsteen- Black Cowboys |
Yeah, I still like stuff before '65 and after '75, but most of what I listen to falls in there.
I've been watching this for awhile now. It's hilarious. http://hitlermyspace.ytmnd.com/ |
I finally listened to Paradise & Lunch.
Great album; one of the finest Roots records you'll find. |
So there is Rock n' Roll that predates "classic rock"? Now there's something that makes no sense.

your avatar game frustrated me countless times as a child. |

The word "classic" doesn't mean first. It just means having lasting signifigance or worth, which "classic rock" does. EDIT: This Otis Redding is awesome! I need some more stuff like it. |
I never got the Otis Redding.

forwarded!
I've never heard of the Violent Femmes.
Jittery '80s folk post-punk. Awesome band, I need more by them. And I officially love you for sending out this Otis Redding. This is amazing. I think I had a nightmare last night. Something about a haunted house. Edit - lmao at that hitler thing |
What is Otis Redding? I can't say I've heard of him.
I like Otis Rush ;p |
He's a soul singer from the 60's. You've probably heard his song (Sitting On) The Dock of the Bay before. He's absolutely awesome.
|
Otis Redding has such an original voice. Usually I don't like soul, but some of the stuff Redding has done is pretty sweet.
|
Could someone foward that to me please?
UTvol48@aol.com |
I too have not recieved this Otis Redding.
|
Check your inboxes.
|
Forwarded it to you two.
|
Man, Public Enemy are so fu'cking awesome.
|
it's true. ive been listening to them more lately.
|
I can never sing that song Shout! on my own and keep it in the correct rhythm...something always goes wrong. Just thought I'd admit that.
Last night at a friends apartment, there were like twenty people sitting in a circle looking just bored as hell...some crappy TV show was playing, so I turned it off and put in my Live Dead CD. I was surprised at how many people liked it, some even started dancing! Of course, we only made it through about 15 minutes of Dark Star before someone changed it to the next song. It was cool though, at first all my punk friends started complaining once I told them it was the Grateful Dead....apparently you have to hate the Grateful Dead to be a punk (without having heard them)...but after a while they all liked it. It was pretty cool. |
So, I just bombarded another music store, and came back with this.

Thanks Edit: What ever happened to the YSI/email thread? Was it taken off or did it just die? |
I think it had something to do with the banning of uploading and trading music illegally over MX, even if it wasnt direct - hence the mailing lists. I havent been here in so long though i couldnt back that up.
but on topic...Wheels of Fire is an awsome album. Pressed Rat and Warthog = Revolutionary. The live album (Disc2) doesnt do justice to their real live shows though. |
