i couldnt agree with you more on the brain cell acumulation in the pit. One of these days the pit will be reduced to just mush (its almost there now)

The pit is basically designed for mindless posting, so I think it's unfair to complain that the majority of posters in there are mindless.

I think it's just because they managed to find someone (Sanctuary) to distribute the album or something.

It was designed to be a break from posting seriously in the other forums, though. Not to have/be a purpose in itself.

People always ask about deleting The Pit in general, but the obvious problem would be that people would spam in the other forums and that would really bog down the community and it would get ridiculous.

At least The Pit is the somewhat-designated Spam Central.

I will say that there are some decent and helpful threads there, but they happen once in a blue moon.

Everytime there is a Community thread in The Pit, it gets to 1,000 pages in an hour and then DBJ or another mod closes it because of how ridiculous it gets.

I mean, it helps cut down the spam because that one thread gets assraped with spam, but when it gets closed the spam continues as normal.

But whatever, it serves its purpose. People would say it doesn't have one, but I think it's just a channeled spam fest. So long as spam doesn't filter into the other forums, it's all good.

At least it keeps the idiots out of R&M.... for the most part.

Without it, it would destroy the forums.

They would spam R&M, Punk, Jazz, ect.

Eh...if you didn't have The Pit I don't think people would be so inclined to spam.
If you only had the serious discussion forums then they wouldn't get badly spammed, I think.

No, I still think there would be idiots who would still spam. Mods could ban them, but with Gmail giving out 200 free invites, one could send invites to him/herself, and 200 reincarnations would spring up.

The Yacht Club is the R&M equivalent of the pit.
Also like I said, I don't think people would really create that type of thread if the pit didn't exist.

You're all (except magik, I think) looking at the Pit in the wrong way, though.

The idea behind it isn't that it's a necessary evil, because if it didn't exist, all the people posting in it would make Pit-style threads in other forums. The point of the Pit is to be a place for (not necessarily serious) discussion about things not covered in the other forums; somewhere for those who used the other forums to go for a break.

The Pit can be hilarious when the right people are posting.

I'm saying that The Pit is useful because it keeps people from posting spam in the other forums... it's just that you have to wonder about people sometimes.

R+M attracts n00bs like no tomorrow, but plenty of them abound in the Pit, and they're meaner there. I just don't like the tone of it. I would prefer being insulted for making a stupid comment rather than saying anything and being called a "faggot" 5 million times, with another million devoted to recommendations for suicide.

Although I've been in there recently and it's not as bad as it was when CreepingBlack committed e-suicide over the Pit.
