Lunch 07-27-2005 03:12 PM

Hey all, I'm back from my road trip. I went to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame which was pretty cool. They had a whole exhibit on Tommy which made it worth it, otherwise it wasn't that great. Brief focus on San Fran/LA scenes in the late 60's, a lot of Hendrix (another good part), and a bit on the Beatles/Stones. There was nothing on The Who's other stuff (though I suspect it could have been moved into the Tommy exhibit, as it was very large), nothing on Cream and basically nothing on Zeppelin. The absence of Cream was disturbing.

The Tommy part was great though, lots of tour posters, pictures, Townshend's writings, a couple guitars and part of a drum kit, and great information on it. And they were playing the Isle of Wight show on a huge screen.

Sounds like a fun trip. I read about that Tommy thing in Rolling Stone, looked cool.

I went the the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame a long time ago. All I really remember is seeing Buddy Holly's glasses and there was a whole floor devoted to Elvis.

I'm still surprised that the first time in my life I was in Cleveland (and hopefully the last) it was during the time when they had a whole Tommy section.

Luck++

I'm sure it was better than that.

I hope it was :(

I'm in a predicament...my friend had an extra ticket for the Sounds of the Underground tour that's coming to a nearby city on Friday. I told him I would go, despite not being a huge fan of metal, I figured it would still be fun. Unfortunately, I then realized that my cities Folk Festival (which is always a fun time) is also this Friday and Saturday. I figure I might be able to drive back to Regina on Saturday and make the Folk Festival, but it's gonna be a close one.

"Yea man, I missed the Folk Festival to see Lamb of God, Opeth, and The Black Dahlia Murder."

Sorry, but that's pretty funny.

JonG 07-27-2005 05:49 PM

Eww, Slug who did you used to be? I hated your tone on "solo". No offense :|

I just went downstairs and looked at some old vinyls. I know someone who has a album->CD converter and is going to burn me some :)

Yeah that will ruin my summer. I know a guy selling acid tabs for a dollar each at the Sounds of the Underground show, I can't imagine taking acid at a metal show. I'd go insane. Personally, I think it's frightening enough.

He used to be ArrestThisMan.

I went there four years ago. It what impelled me to want to be a rock star.

The bottom floor is just a lot of stuff, but the top four or so floors is dedicated to a giant moving exhibit. Was this where Tommy was? When I went it was totally dedicated to John Lennon, and man this is stuff that at the time (bigger Beatle fan back then, still big now) I would die to have, let alone see.

I personally thought the whole thing was cool.

I have one but I'm too stupid to use it.

You'd think that you would find more of that at the folk festival, with all the dirty hippie folkies and all

Lunch, that sounds cool, do you know how long the Tommy bit is going to be open for?

To be honest I've never really gotten into any of their other stuff. But that album, it's beautiful.

Yea, the top two floor things were entirely about Tommy. Obviously I loved it.

Overall though, the rest of it was good, not great, but I'm glad I went.

And the Tommy exhibit opend this past April until March next year I think.

Maybe I could cajole someone into bringing me, but it IS around 10 hours from here, I would have to find something else in Ohio to do to make it worth it :p

The rest of Cleveland sucks so don't count on spending time there. And I didn't go into the southern part, but Toledo is uselss. Ohio is boring and flat.

jpj 07-27-2005 10:06 PM

You should've came to Steubenville and gotten shot!

BludgeonySteve 07-27-2005 11:02 PM

Is that in Reference to the song Ohio? I don't know where it happened in Ohio but I know that things went down, shooty things ;)

Lunch 07-27-2005 11:05 PM

At Kent State I think, 4 students were shot and killed.

BludgeonySteve 07-27-2005 11:08 PM

That's such a bitchin' song.

No, it's crime ridden a city across the river.

You'd be correct, sir!

That is a bitchin' song.

That's one of my favorite riffs to play..

BludgeonySteve 07-27-2005 11:13 PM

aww :(

I say we e-sing Ohio

*gets out teh e-guitar*

Tin soldiers and Nixon's comin'.
We're finally on our own.
This summer I hear the drummin'.
Four dead in Ohio...

E-sing, ****it.

BludgeonySteve 07-27-2005 11:21 PM

aww, you guys are no fun.

Remember our AIM chats? And whenever Badmoon would enter the chat room we would break out into a singing of Bad Moon Rising? Good times.

Lunch 07-27-2005 11:22 PM

Yea, and all the trivia. And that time you tried to stalk Malcom down and have sexual relations with him. I'll never forgive your for that.

jpj 07-27-2005 11:25 PM

And that time I made a Lunch voodoo doll and did naughty things to it.
