there's different ways of pushing air across your throat, that's why vocalists can do multiple intonations

it's really not that different from actually singing, you can use your throat multiple ways for that too
singing has tonality, growling does not right?

yeah bro don't try and educate me just put your pointless two cents in to look cool!

publicastration 09-19-2010 01:00 PM

erm if growling doesn't have tonality why does chris barnes sound diff from george fisher

masscows 09-19-2010 01:01 PM
singing has tonality, growling does not right?
not the point I was trying to make, pitch and tone are still relevant with harsh vocals even if the notes being sung can't be defined as ABCDEFG
erm if growling doesn't have tonality why does chris barnes sound diff from george fisher
tone=/=tonality

Not worth it bro.
not the point I was trying to make, pitch and tone are still relevant with harsh vocals even if the notes being sung can't be defined as ABCDEFGtone=/=tonality
so your point is that the throat can be used to make different vocal sounds

I'm saying everyone has a default vocal style they develop and trying to sound like a vocalist you like is stupid.

at least with an instrument you can emulate the same sounds as another musician

but w/ vocals you're stuck with your voice

masscows 09-19-2010 01:07 PM

that's not really true though, I can do pretty good imitations of different vocalists even if my tone isn't spot on with theirs

like how singers have similarities in style that don't have to do with their "natural" voice perse, you know

adb 09-19-2010 01:09 PM

can you do them consistently and using proper technique (no side effects)?

masscows 09-19-2010 01:13 PM

no fucking idea what proper is but yeah

hismajestythepope 09-19-2010 01:56 PM

brent, growling has tone

and if youre not hurting your voice, your technique is fine

hismajestythepope 09-19-2010 04:36 PM

DBlitz 09-19-2010 05:36 PM
anyone heil cruciamentum? awesome incantation styled stuff
noob ppl hav been talkin about them all thru '09

they definitely released one of the better demo's last year though i think

rasputin 09-19-2010 09:39 PM

yeah jason dunno where you been but cruciamentum have been constantly mentioned the past year in this thread

but anyway

their demo convocations is fucking rule, probably my favourite demo released last year. i managed to find a copy of it on cassette.

did you hear the demos from Krypts and Stench of Decay?

Deth 09-19-2010 09:43 PM

yeah had the two of those a long time, really good stuff

have so many DM demos on my desktop right now, being so lazy listening to them

hismajestythepope 09-19-2010 09:58 PM

rasputin 09-19-2010 10:04 PM

Deth 09-19-2010 10:12 PM
what about the aethyvorous, grave ritual, ritual torture and grave upheaval tapes, you herd those
heard the first two and didn't like them, not sure about the others, think I heard grave upheavel though.

hismajestythepope 09-19-2010 10:20 PM

what the fuck

how do you not like aethyvorous

rasputin 09-19-2010 10:23 PM

it's a bit of a wild guess but i think you might like impetuous ritual jason, maybe give that a shot

have you heard that mappy?

Deth 09-19-2010 10:25 PM

yeah, I liked impetous ritual, though apparently not enough to keep it because it's not in my music player

but remember enjoying it somewhat

rasputin 09-19-2010 10:29 PM

it got better for me with every listen so maybe give it another chance

but maybe i only like them because they're australian

Deth 09-19-2010 10:32 PM

i do think you're a little soft on aussie bands yeah

idk death metal is pretty straightforward for me at this point, its rare for me to start liking something I just find ok now. I know what I like and what I'm looking for.

rasputin 09-19-2010 10:47 PM

that's the thing, i'm really not, if anything i'm even more critical of aussie bands. i've listened to a shitload of them and i can say with utmost certainty that the majority of them are absolutely shit.

people just assume that because i love portal, ignivomous and some other select australian bands
