just browsing google video on happened upon a couple interesting vids. Just ignore this post if you seen em,

this one is LTE playing all of Acid Rain pretty cool pettrucci's got his black and white 7 stringer out.

this one you might have seen in the liquid drum theater, but I included for those who hadn't

and this one is some high school kids playing paradigm shift at a high school talent show. I have heard worse. an A for effort.
All of those kids have chops. The guitarist has excellent tone though, and great control. Cool.

Notice that they don't have a keyboard player!

If only you were there Speedy. :p
those kids playing paradigm shift make me sad...wish i had chops like that :upset:

speaking of which, what DT songs can y'all play and on what instrument?
as for me, i can play on guitar: as i am (minus solo), another day, goodnight kiss + solitary shell, home (minus solo), finally free, through her eyes :], fatal tragedy (minus solo), overture 1928, in the name of god (minus solo), octavarium (minus shred solo), sacrificed sons, root of all evil, answer lies within.

if you think about it, it's really not that impressive :p
Better than me I guess. I can play A Fortune in Lies (minus solo), Status Seeker, YTSE Jam (solo not so great), Afterlife(minus solo), Silent Man, Erotomania (minus solo), Another Day (minus that little bit where john just has to shred), Beyond This Life (minus solo), As I am (minus solo), Octavarium (minus fast solo) and SOC (minus fast solo).
Still pretty decent seeing I've only been playing a year and a half.

I play guitar, I can't remember what songs I can play all the way through...ah yes, I can play The Silent Man :naughty: .

Whenever I learn songs I never learn them all the way through cause I can't be bothered really.

Cool, loads more people posting in this thread now, always nice to see:thumb: .

Whats wrong with guitar pro?

scenesfromatheater 12-15-2005 06:42 PM

Yeah, it's the greatest tab software to grace God's green earth.

may i recommend...

powertabs?

www.powertabs.net

you will be changed. MX looks like child's play compared to powertabs.
there's a program you gotta dl, but it's worth it. the new DT tabs are pretty much spot on and check out some of the LTE tabs as well. people are amazing.

and sometimes it's more fun to listen to the powertabs than the actual song :naughty:

Hollywood Rose 12-15-2005 11:33 PM

Anyone seen G3 live in Tokyo? Kicks as$!

ghettoeddo 12-16-2005 12:15 AM
Anyone seen G3 live in Tokyo? Kicks as$!
yea i own it.
petrucci kinda sounded...not as refined as vai or satch.
he really needed another guitarrist to back him up on rhythm.

i dont like the tokyo one as much as some others, because the players seem to be locked into their playing grids and do the same tricks over and over. satch does that gay whammy squeal up and plays fast legato, vai just wanks on the bar, and petrucci just plays box patterns and scales up and down.
that said, i love em

Triangle 12-16-2005 02:51 AM

I need to get the Tokyo dvd for xmas. More Petrucci's good enough for me.

Lord Abortion 12-16-2005 07:31 AM

/has been listening to the silent man constantly.

My LATB came today...pity my Mum won't let me watch it until christmas :(

We were talking about Guitar Pro not MX. I downloaded Powertabs about ages ago and Guitar Pro is much better.

guitarpro? better than powertabs?

i MUST check this out...

scenesfromatheater 12-16-2005 04:29 PM

You don't have Guitar Pro? What has this world come to?

Jev 12-16-2005 04:42 PM

I have Guitar Pro 5. In all honesty I prefer Powertabs, I find it easier to follow and I like the sounds better. GP5's distorted guitar sounds like a blur of notes coming from an ice cream truck.

scenesfromatheater 12-16-2005 04:43 PM

Yeah, but aren't the Powertab sounds just MIDI sounds like GP 4?

Triangle 12-16-2005 04:55 PM
Yeah, but aren't the Powertab sounds just MIDI sounds like GP 4?
Yep. It's harder to use imo, than PT. Guitar Pro ftw. Sounds waayy better.

scenesfromatheater 12-16-2005 05:03 PM

When I got Powertab ages ago it was only guitar tabs you could veiw and was really hard to use. Is it any better now?

Jev 12-16-2005 05:15 PM

You could always view bass tabs. You have to click the bass clef.
I find GP really hard to use. Although Powertabs doesn't have drums unless you have a program to make them.

scenesfromatheater 12-16-2005 05:16 PM

Hey, how long you had over 10,000 posts? I never noticed.

scenesfromatheater 12-16-2005 05:20 PM

Awsome, I've finally got the whole of the Awake demos. It's cool cause it's the same songs but without the annoying triggered drums.

Congrats on breaking 10,000.

I almost have the complete DT discography (minus demos and such). I just need ACoS which Im getting for Christmas.

powertabs, you can see guitar, bass, keys, other instruments written out for guitar. and yes it's in MIDI. drums can be added in w/ a separate program.

yale just deferred me early action :(

Sorry to hear about that. Most of my friends applied to Ivy league schools and have been deffered. What other schools did you apply to?

Lord Abortion 12-17-2005 11:24 AM

I like the chorus to caught in a web...the innocence faded one sounds similar to me.

The chorus in Caught in a Web is very good. I find it catchy, but not in an annoying way.

scenesfromatheater 12-18-2005 10:13 AM

The keyboards at the start are aload of rubbish.

I like the keyboards in the intro. What do you not like about them?

scenesfromatheater 12-18-2005 10:15 AM

They just sound awful. They don't go with the backing at all...and I think I know more about music than Dream Theater.

GenuineImitation 12-18-2005 10:21 AM

Im gettin ACoS for christmas. What songs are on disk two?

Lord Abortion 12-18-2005 10:43 AM

I really don't like the covers on ACoS...

Ok, but what covers are they?
