That is true. But you did say that is their second newest release, so they can't have changed too much... is their newest release more metal influenced?
(You can listen to older stuff at "releases")

Well, not really I suppose. It's heavier though.

A-Life-Less-Plagued 11-06-2004 09:02 PM

Hm. The song off the newest one is actually quite different. I'm not sure what I would call it. I'd probably stick with post-hardcore.

I just got back from interviewing Wade from Alexisonfire (if you all cared)... he's the man. I'll post a link for the interview when I finish typing it up and get it up on //radiotakeover.com

any one here heard of Haste the Day or Only Crime? I just found out they are opening for a show, are they any good?

BuddyBigsby 11-07-2004 03:38 AM

Strung Out show, right? I don't know if you'll like Haste the Day, they're kind of an oddball on that tour. Metalcore with really poppy/rocky melodic parts. I like 'em, but I don't know what your tastes are like. If you like Strung Out, you'll probably really like Only Crime. Melodic punk a la Rise Against, Strung Out, blah blah blah. Aaron from Bane/Converge is in it, and there's a couple other guys in it from equally notable bands I'm forgetting.

Take Down Your Art playing later in the night on their first day of recording their 7", for whatever crazy reason, screamy, mathy, melodic hardcore.
Requiem part of the Crimethinc family and sure not to disappoint.
the Spectacle coming with Requiem. I got nothing.
Vampire Cat Pixies meets early Gravity Records stuff? Awesome is all that's certain.

Haven't heard Requiem or the Spectacle, but the other two bands are SO good.

Oh, and that's in NEWARK.

Oh wait.. Newark is in Delaware.

For South Dakota, I guess maybe if you go out west to Rapid City, its OK. And in the east there is Sioux Falls, which happens to get a handfull of bands every year. There is some local shows too both places too. Otherwise, I think North Dakota is completely fucked as far as I know.

Let's Chop Cats! 11-07-2004 11:33 AM

I think there is a Newark in Delaware, but that doesn't matter because Delaare is boring.

cbmartinez 11-07-2004 11:34 AM

Word. But they have no sales tax.

wuzzuh? Have you heard The Beautiful Sounds Of...? If you're making that determination based on s/t, I've only heard one or two songs from that, so it would make sense.

Yeah, pretty much.

cbmartinez 11-07-2004 01:32 PM

All the stuff I've heard isn't grind. Maybe it's from the new CD, but the song that comes to mind ("Untitled") was relatively slow with weird, spacy riffs and slow vocals with the occasional frantic scream.

I've said this a ba-jillion times.

As The Sun Sets >>>> Daughters

cbmartinez 11-07-2004 01:43 PM

So I got into a little debate with my friend. We've been looking to jam for a while now, and he has somehow fixed his sights on creating a grindcore band. Well, the first thing he did that made me mad was when I tried to explain to him how much work and technicality it takes to make grind. He ignored me basically and gave the "it's just randomly hitting the guitar, there's no skill involved." This then turned into a debate in which he claimed that grindcore is artsy (the bands that most frequently came up in the discussion were The Locust and The Tony Danza Tap Dance Extravaganza, I don't know what sub genre of grind they fall under). He claims that it's looking into the mind of an insane person and that he doesn't think any sane person would go out on stage and play grind. I tried arguing that grind has very little to do with art and that it's usually blasts of noise and incoherent lyrics. The debate went on for a bit more and never really came to a conclusion. So I thought I'd bring up the question in here, is grind artsy?

capri sun junkie 11-07-2004 01:44 PM

Its artsy, the stuff you listed. But it requires a lot of skill to play grind.

And he must have been talking about Anal Cunt...

Well that's the new album. Every song on it is Untitled.

shane italian 11-07-2004 01:45 PM

Grind is brutal, not artsy. Agoraphobic Nosebleed will back me up.
