Did any of you have a difinitive Album/Song/band that got you into CR?

For me it was Sgt. Pepper's

Then maybe Queen
I think it was Dark Side of the Moon. I was looking through my dad's cds, and I found this odd looking album. He told me it was really good, so I went and listened to it. At first I only liked Any Color You Like and Us and Them, but eventually I loved the whole album.

The Doors self titled claims the title over me. I've never seen a Doors n00b before.

I'm pretty sure the first classic rock album I bought was Queen-Live Magic. I saw a commercial for a Queen Greatest Hits, and they were playing clips of the songs. I liked them so I bought the cheapest Queen CD Wal-Mart had.

Maybe you'd like to add more to the thread by telling us why it rocks what do like about and what bands you like. Other wise you're just wasting the 20,000 posts this thread has left.

At 60,000 they'll probablly close it down and make a new one. :upset:

From Lester Bangs' Psychotic Reactions and Carburetor Dung-

"The Yardbirds, as I said, were incredible. They came stampeding in and just blew everybody clean off the tracks. They were so fucking good, in fact, that people were imitating 'em as much as a decade later, and getting rich doing it I might add, because the original band of geniuses just didn't last that long. Of course, none of their stepchildren were half as good, and got increasingly pretentious and overblown as time went on until about 1973 a bunch of emaciated fops called Led Zeppelin played their final concert when the lead guitarist was assassinated by an irate strychnine freak in the audience with a zip gun just fifty-eight minutes into his famous two-and-a-half-hour virtuoso solo on one bass note. Then they grabbed the lead vocalist, who was so strong out on datura he couldn't do much but cough 'Gleep gleep gug jargaroona fizzlefuck' type lyrics anymore anyway, and they cut off all his hair and stomped his harmonica, gave him a set of civvies (an outsized set of Lifetime Chainmail Bodyjeans, I think it was) and ran him outa town on a rail. Last we heard he was trying to sing 'Whole Lotta Love' to a bunch of sentimental old hashheads in some Podunk club. Maudlin as hell."

He was a famous rock interviewer, and his book is like a compilation of his best interviews and articles. He hated Led Zeppelin, so I though it'd be funny to post this. Especially to Schyma.

That cracked me up. If only that's how Led Zeppelin actually went out...

Woodstock 07-25-2005 08:13 PM

He was also a huge fan of The Stooges.

Um....driving one night with my Dad, I heard "Tears In Heaven", followed directly by "Space Oddity".

Also, when I was starting to learn the guitar, who guitar teacher showed the class a DVD of The Who. Seeing Pete Townshend smash his guitar and Keith Moon blow up his drum kit made me want to further explore rock.

Wow, I sounded a bit like Jack Black near the end there.

Oh man, I got this book a few months ago. It's so funny. Lester Bangs is a genius.

Queen got me into classic rock. And early Beatles records.
