The drums in the new song completely change the dynamics from the load/Re-load era.

MRDuCran 06-23-2006 07:40 PM

It's got the same kinda of gutiar/vocal style though, I have to agree, I think it sounds like something from Load mixing with St. Anger, but of course it doesn't really matter what it sounds like, as long as it sounds good.

highwaysalmon 06-23-2006 11:43 PM

wtf, how come theres no metallica tabs at metaltabs.com?????

wait, nevermind, just read the FAQ, anyways,
just watched both "a year and a half in the life of metallica" tapes. Pretty sweet, found it funny how they had to build that wall of foam for Jason becuase he picks so hard.

ghettoeddo 06-24-2006 02:54 AM

...wall of foam?

real bassists dont use picks

Wall of Foam? Please explain.

I haven't seen these tapes.

Nothing wrong with bassing with a pick either.

Ya, he was recording a bass line for Wherever I May Roam, and they had to take all these massive squares of sponge foam stuff and build a little room around him because he picks the strings to hard and it was interferering with the soud bob rock was hearing out of the speakers. Something like that anyways, if youve seen the videos, you'd know what i mean.

Jev 06-24-2006 04:15 PM
Everything is wrong with bassing with a pick.
Not really.
Just because you don't use fingers, people assume you're a crappy bassist eh?

I see, I'll have to steal them or something.

Soul_Under_Arrest 06-24-2006 05:19 PM

They did play one of their new songs at Rock Am Ring...It's on youtube but the quality is pretty bad (cell phone recording)

Kyle 06-24-2006 05:20 PM
They did play one of their new songs at Rock Am Ring...It's on youtube but the quality is pretty bad (cell phone recording)
Yeah, I think most people know that, we were debaing where they played it first. Which was apparantly a different german show.

MRDuCran 06-24-2006 06:07 PM

Then why isn't it on the video?

not necessarily, sometimes picks sound better for metal bass. Megadeth is a good example.

True. In general bassists who use picks are not great/recycled guitarists.

Kyle 06-25-2006 04:16 AM
Then why isn't it on the video?
Oh no, I'm wrong. Jus' ignore me :p

Skit 06-25-2006 06:10 AM
True. In general bassists who use picks are not great/recycled guitarists.
Cliff played like a recycled guitarist and everyone kisses his ***.

Nothing wrong with pick playing, sometimes its better to use a pick to get a certain type of tone.

Jason could play either way as can Rob.

MRDuCran 06-25-2006 01:49 PM

I think bassists who play with picks have MUCH better sound.

There's 3 finger style bassists in my music class, and one that uses a pick, and he dominates them when he plays with a band and he's not even that good. It makes the overall mix alot more even if the bass is like that.

Huber 06-25-2006 02:09 PM

Justin Chancellor's tone on Tool's 10,000 Days is a perfect example of good pick bass.

MetallifuX 06-27-2006 11:02 AM

all i can say about the new song is FUK YEEEAARRGGHH

Yeah, the new album should be good, better than St. Anger, I'm sure. Although after hearing how they sound live now, I'm not so much excited for the new album as I am for another tour.

Honestly, I think this is the best they've sounded in years. Lars' drumming is right on, Kirk sounds super tight even on the faster, harder solos, James can actually hit the high notes without sounding squeaky or out of tune, and Rob finally got to show off how good he really is with them playing Orion.

So hopefully they'll be back on tour in North America within the next year.

It's pretty fucking shit how many people over in the guitar don't appreciate Metallica, or even go as far as hating them.

Check it out:

It's cool to hate Metallica in there.

Jev 06-27-2006 06:28 PM

Early Spring next year I believe.

TojesDolan 06-27-2006 06:29 PM

Next summer. Summer of 2007.

Hetfield says he wants to take his time doing it. Good to know they got rid of that Bob Rock bitch.

TEST 06-27-2006 06:30 PM
Early Spring next year I believe.
even though I'm insanely anti metallica. I'll dl and check it out. See how it turned out.
