Yes. Especially potatoes seasoned heavily with garlic, cream, salt, bacon, pepper, and cheese.
That sounds so ace.

My dad hates it but I ****ing LOVE it.

Permanent Solution 12-09-2006 07:47 PM

maple bacon is excellent in eggs. i like to do onions, maple bacon, potatoes (red, if i can), bell peppers, cheese and eggs. yum.

TheBigMachine 12-09-2006 07:48 PM

I like it. I like normal bacon too.

I love steak though.

Bell peppers are overpowering and cook at different times than other foods.

that made no sense to me :(

edit: well obviously it doesn't all go in at once. bacon cooks in the skillet while potatoes and peppers cook, then potatoes, onions and peppers are added after bacon is done to brown in the bacon grease, then everything goes in, more or less.

Pazz 12-09-2006 07:55 PM

Quit talking about food. It's making me hungry.:p

Eh, in my experience you either get overcooked food while the bell peppers are practically freaking raw.

And roasted peppers are way too overpowering. I can't put them in soup because that's ALL I TASTE.

And they aren't so great anyway. They add some juicy-ness to a nice Chorizo sandwhich, though. With onion, too. Sauteyed with garlic, of course.

Your experience doesn't include good cooking then :p

A local chinese food restaurant, actually.

I don't usually bother using bell peppers except for the every-so-often charizo sausage sandwich I have.

TheBigMachine 12-09-2006 08:12 PM

You two are gourmet chefs.

chinese can't make peppers, that's a fact.

Mitch: Jon just thinks he is :p

BridgeToSolace 12-09-2006 08:24 PM

I'm a pretty crappy chef.

Better than most 16 year olds, though.

Dinosawesome 12-09-2006 08:29 PM

The foods I can cook I do a great job of (burritos, steaks, shnitzels, salads) but things I haven't made before take me a few goes (aka many many) to perfect.

*men of all ages

I'm pretty sure at least. From how you talk about the foods :p

I made cheesecake from scratch this summer, that was my pride of cooking thus far. That and my super 4 course Greek meal a few months ago down here.

Mute Print 12-09-2006 08:32 PM

Hello pop-punk.

How's it going?

As a side note, I can't cook at all. But, I don't try to either, so whatever.

CommieCanada 12-09-2006 08:33 PM

hopefully i start a new job tomorrow

Heh, I'm not home enough to cook anyway. I eat cereal/sandwiches for dinner 2-3+ nights a week. On the other nights, we either order, or my mom cooks.

:p

BridgeToSolace 12-09-2006 08:39 PM

I made the entire thanksgiving dinner recently, which is probably my cooking crowning achievement.

Sweet potatoes, turkey, roast beef, cranberry sauce, mashed potatoes.

Yep.

Eliminator 12-09-2006 08:42 PM

What about stuffing?

ugggh i love stuffing. iw ant some

BridgeToSolace 12-09-2006 08:47 PM

I don't like stuffing.

I would have made sage/cornbread stuffing, though.

I managed to overcook mine a little bit. Still tender, just a bit dry.

The maple gravy made up for it though :)

Meh, oh well.

I spend a lot of time with my family (particularly my dad), we just don't eat together that much.

Edit - Come to think of it, my family is rarely all in the same place at the same time though. :-\

yeah, making non-dry turkey is very tough, turkey is a naturally dry meat to start so :\

Cereal is a amazing. I've been eating Carmel Crunch, and it's like sex. I eat it when I don't feel like cooking and we don't have any decent frozen **** I can just pop in the oven.

yeh, that was sort of my point

dinner used to be like, the family gathering of the night. nowadays parents are too busy to eat dinner with their kids and such, much less cook for them. :\

jon: i eat cereal every day for breakfast. but for dinner? :\

BridgeToSolace 12-09-2006 08:57 PM
yeah, making non-dry turkey is very tough, turkey is a naturally dry meat to start so :\
Well, I didn't follow the recipe exactly, and I trust Tyler Florence, So I think that's why.

I was supposed to put bacon on the turkey some ways into cooking to make up for turkey being such a lean meat. One of the guests was jewish and we weren't sure if he kept kosher, so that was out.

Also, in a cookbook my mom had it said to "Start at 450 and then immediately drop the temperature for significantly better flavor."

Bad idea.

The stick and a half of sage butter under the skin sure helped, though :)

I don't eat breakfast. And I don't mind eating whatever for dinner. I'm not one of those people who are like "You can't have sandwiches for dinner! That's lunch food!"

Mute Print 12-09-2006 08:58 PM

My family used to eat together every night, but then I started to go to concerts 3+ nights a week. On those nights, I eat an early 'dinner', and then go to the show with my dad, leaving my mom and brother to find food.

My mom hates to cook, so she doesn't do it very often either way. :p

Permanent Solution 12-09-2006 08:58 PM

"stick and a half of butter" ...heart attack much? :p

brian: oic, well then you're to blame for your family falling apart! :p

on a side note, i don't mind if a girl isn't into cooking because i love to do it.

I agree.

Thanksgiving is one of my least favorite holidays. I really don't care about the food, and I always have to see a whole bunch of my cousins who are < 13 years old, and annoying as hell.

CommieCanada 12-09-2006 09:04 PM
andy: is this that job you've been talking about forever?
have i said anything about it? i dunno.

but its a job at Whole Foods in Austin which is like a Grocery Store thats the size of a shopping mall.

10 bucks an hour starting. Dang

Eliminator 12-09-2006 09:05 PM

I just eat a shitload of stuffing and mashed potatoes.

Seriously good food. I don't like thxgiving turkey though.

TheBigMachine 12-09-2006 09:06 PM

What about christmas and things?
Annoying cousins...I know the feeling. I have only three cousins who dont infuriate me.
One is alot older than me.
One i go out partying with.
The other is just cool in general.

Mute Print 12-09-2006 09:08 PM

I don't see my cousins on Christmas, luckily.
