Badmoon 12-28-2005 01:31 PM

I just bought...

Antibalas Afrobeat Orchestra - Liberation Afro Beat Vol. 1
The Jayhawks - Hollywood Town Hall

...From Itunes. What else should I buy? Give me good suggestions -- none of that Neil Young, Syd Barrett crap (:p)

Albums I'm thinking about getting or looking for:

Ry Cooder - Paradise and Lunch
De La Soul - 3 Feet High and Rising
Meat Puppets - Up On the Sun
Lee Scratch Perry - Roast Fish, Collie Weed And Corn Bread
Public Image - Ltd. Metal Box
The Clash - The Clash
Uncle Tupelo - Still Feel Gone

I'm not sure what to get, I can afford about two more.
From Itunes. What else should I buy?
Grateful Dead crap. :)

I want to upload Paradise and Lunch for you but I have to be on my dad's computer to even attempt it. I'll be there Thursday so I'll try then.

Badmoon 12-28-2005 02:41 PM

Don't bother, I just found out a friend has it.

Thanks anyway :)

Glitterati 12-28-2005 03:00 PM

Wooooo The Clash!

If you like that, get London Calling next.

Mr. Black 12-28-2005 03:04 PM

What Oyster Cult album should I get?

Badmoon 12-28-2005 03:39 PM
If you like that, get London Calling next.
London Calling was actually the second album I've ever bought.

Took me 4 years to actually get into it. :p

Broken Arrow 12-28-2005 04:01 PM
De La Soul - 3 Feet High and Rising
]Get this then send it to me!

BlackDeathMetalJazz or really ANYTHING else please- 12-28-2005 04:02 PM

Send it to me too.^

I just listened to it a few days ago, I really like it. It's one of the very few Punk albums I can sit through and enjoy. I can only listen to it once every few months though.
What Oyster Cult album should I get?
None, I recomend you get Village Green by the Kinks instead. :p

Yes, Sir.
De La Soul - 3 Feet High and Rising
I'm really not that crazy about this album...you sure you wouldn't rather have something by ATCQ?

Broken Arrow 12-28-2005 04:13 PM
I'm really not that crazy about this album...you sure you wouldn't rather have something by ATCQ?
I already do and I heard one song of 3 Feet.... and really liked it. I'm not sure ow the rest of the album is.

I really want Midnight Marauders by ATCQ though.

Bus 12-28-2005 05:08 PM

Easy Rider was very cool. Does anybody know what album that Byrds song is from? I like that country-ish stuff better than their radio stuff.

Illmatic 12-28-2005 05:14 PM

I don't know what song you're talking about, but Sweetheart of the Rodeo is their country-ish album (Gram Parsons wrote and played on most of it) so I'll guess it's from that album.

BlackDeathMetalJazz or really ANYTHING else please- 12-28-2005 05:19 PM

It's easily thier best song, I mean how many songs are psychedelic country?! NRPS couldn't have sounded this good. It's called "Wasn't Born To Follow", it's from Byrd Brothers, the album sucks but that song is incredible. I've been talking about this song for along time in this thread but no-one seemed to care. :-/

I thought Easy Rider was only good from the time Jack Nicholson was introduced until the time he was killed. I think if I was around when it was new and saw it then, I would've thought more of it. It's not a film that ages well, at least from my point of view.

Bus 12-28-2005 05:27 PM

Thanks Ray I'll check out that one.

Schyma, it is a really cool song isn't it? I love when the flanger kicks in. I imagine that would be pretty scary if you were watching the movie high.

NP: The Flying Burrito Brothers - Dark End of the Street

BlackDeathMetalJazz or really ANYTHING else please- 12-28-2005 05:34 PM

"Flanger"? Is that what that effect is called? I don't know about being scary but it's one ****ing trippy as hell effect when you're stoned or drunk, hell it's trippy as hell when you're sober!

Bus 12-28-2005 05:41 PM

Yea when it goes from country straight into psychadelic, that's a flanger.

NP: The Band - The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down

thickasabrick 12-28-2005 06:09 PM

I loooove flange. My old guitar amp (I still use it to jam with friends) has reverb, delay, chorus, and flange settings on it...it can produce some really, really trippy sounds/songs.

I've never seen Easy Rider before...I want to though. I'll check if the library has it tomorrow. I actually don't really like The Byrds...they just don't seem real enough. They have a lot of listenable songs, but there are countless other bands I'd rather listen to.

Heh heh, last night I made it through a police stop-check with about a half-ounce of pot on me and my friend had some oil....I had no license or registration on me, and my brake lights didn't work. The cop told us we reminded him of the kids from Dazed and Confused, then he imitated a teenager saying "there's the fuzz, hide the ****!" It was pretty funny, but I was extremely stoned so I was trying not to laugh. And I was worried about them noticing my brake lights. I got off safely though, I had to drive away without using my brakes so they wouldn't notice the lack of lights.

Yea I'm not really a big fan of The Byrds, but the song they do for Easy Rider is pretty cool. How many days have you been stoned now?

NP: Jimi Hendrix - Voodoo Chile

BlackDeathMetalJazz or really ANYTHING else please- 12-28-2005 06:23 PM

That's a pretty funny story, thick.

My record is a week of toking any chance I had, used a quarter pound in a little more than a week. Good times....although pretty damn pathetic. I also went on 5 trips in 5 days which was pretty damn mind blowing at the time.

I don't like the Byrds but that song's incredible.

Glitterati 12-28-2005 07:56 PM

I have decided that The Only Living Boy In New York is my new favorite Simon & Garfunkel song.

thickasabrick 12-28-2005 08:08 PM

It's been a few weeks since I've listened to Simon and Garfunkel. I only have their Greatest Hits album on vinyl, it has all my favourite songs by them...but I get bored of listening to the same album every time. I should buy one of their albums, what's a good one?

I thought I had asked this already today, but apparently not (the post must not have went through)....does anyone here prefer Rubber Soul over Revolver? I've been listening to both albums a lot lately, so I'm just curious album everyone's opinions on those albums.

And what's the name of that Byrds song that everyone says is so good?

BlackDeathMetalJazz or really ANYTHING else please- 12-28-2005 08:18 PM

I used to not care for Rubber Soul but I recently discovered it in a big way. Rubber Soul has a few weak songs and Revolver is flawless.

"Wasn't Born To Follow" is the Country/Psychedelic song by the Byrds we were talking about.

robo2448 12-28-2005 08:21 PM
I have decided that The Only Living Boy In New York is my new favorite Simon & Garfunkel song.
You stole my favorite song:eek:

I agree with you, that's such an amazing and relaxing song. Beautiful singing.

Anyone else think Simon and Garfunkel are great driving music. I wouldn't usually think of them as good driving music, but for some reason I find myself putting them on a lot while I'm in the car. Odd.

I probably like Rubber Soul a little more just because it was the first Beatles album I bought and has special significance. Both are amazing though.

Broken Arrow 12-28-2005 08:25 PM

Lately I must say Rubber Soul has been more appealing, the only thing I don't like is "What Goes On". It's the "YellowSubmarine" of Ruber Soul for me.

Ironically Ringo sings both.

BlackDeathMetalJazz or really ANYTHING else please- 12-28-2005 08:36 PM

What is so damn bad about "Yellow Submarine"? Ringo sings it very nice and has a nice simple guitar part and has some nice effects to it. It just proves how the Beatles could turn a simple song into a good catchy tune. I don't see how anyone could hate such a pleasent tune.

Broken Arrow 12-28-2005 08:41 PM

I never said it was so damn bad. I jjust don't care for it. Maybe the teachers in public school wrecked it for me.

robo2448 12-28-2005 08:46 PM

There's nothing bad about Yellow Submarine but there's nothing really good about it either. I like it, it's a nice pleasant singalong but I can see how people wouldn't care for it. Both albums are nearly perfect.

Speaking of nearly perfect albums, I haven't been able to stop listening to CSNY- Deja Vu since I got it for Christmas. It's unbelievably awesome.

BlackDeathMetalJazz or really ANYTHING else please- 12-28-2005 08:46 PM

Illmatic always complains about it when Revolver is brought up so I just thought "Yellow Submarine" is starting to a bad rep. I appologize if I exaggerated a little.

What's everyone's favorite radio station on San Andreas? The Classic Rock one sucks.....Master Sounds is where it's at.

Broken Arrow 12-28-2005 08:47 PM

I've only played it once at a friends.

/has N64

BlackDeathMetalJazz or really ANYTHING else please- 12-28-2005 08:55 PM

CSNY are really wierd with me. Like I like the band I just have a really hard time getting into the songs but I consider myself to be a fan.

Bus 12-28-2005 09:00 PM

I really like the folky feel to Rubber Soul, but overall I think Revolver is near perfect (with the exception of Yellow Submarine).

Broken Arrow 12-28-2005 09:05 PM

Speaking of CSNY, today I was organizing my record collection and broke the case for Deja Vu. I got a new case for it so now it looks brand new.

I spent the better half of the day cleaning my room due to stacks of albums laying everywhere.

TheDMV 12-28-2005 09:05 PM
CSNY are really wierd with me. Like I like the band I just have a really hard time getting into the songs but I consider myself to be a fan.
So since you like the band, but not as much the songs, would you say that you are more of a fan of the solo careers/ other bands of the members? I'm more of a fan of Neil Young than CSNY. It's pretty easy to tell who wrote the songs sometimes too.

BlackDeathMetalJazz or really ANYTHING else please- 12-28-2005 09:14 PM

No, it's like I like So Far but I can't listen to it all the way through and yes, I like Neil Young way more than CSNY.

Broken Arrow 12-28-2005 09:16 PM

I too, obviously like Neil Young way more than CSNY, but I stil love them.

Against Miik! 12-28-2005 09:16 PM

So the other day, Rage Against the Machine was played on my local classic rock station. Anybody wanna join me in a wtf?

TheDMV 12-28-2005 09:20 PM
No, it's like I like So Far but I can't listen to it all the way through and yes, I like Neil Young way more than CSNY.
I can rarely ever listen to an album all the way through, unles it's brand new and an absolute classic. I can almost go through Deja Vu but sometimes the last few bore me. During a car ride although, I find that it's easier to listen to albums more. Great Gig in the Sky never sounded better than on the way to a Navy football game.

zabbit82 12-28-2005 09:39 PM
So the other day, Rage Against the Machine was played on my local classic rock station. Anybody wanna join me in a wtf?
Right here man. What the HELL are they doing playing hard rock music from the 90's??
