Actually I was telling the threadstarter that there was already a rammstein thread. Just trying to help MX out, didn't want to make waves with others.
how come? It used to be my favourite song off Unplugged in New York. Now, Im not sure whether he was being emotional or just out of tone :\
Unplugged in New York is the only Nirvana I like.

The Sonata Arctica cover of "Fade to Black" is the best Metallica cover I've ever heard.

If anyone has any other serious contenders (besides Avril Lavigne, because she practically blows everyone else out of the water when it comes to accuracy to the original track), please let me know.

But man, Sonata Arctica are pretty freakin' awesome covering this song.

And yeah, anything you send would be fine, thanks. Same address as in the Request Music thread, if you have the time :)

EDIT: okies, YSI just sent it. Happy listening!

Best cover ever I have heard is the Nighwish version of Symphony of destruction by Megadeth

Told you so :)
Sonata Arctica are fucking amazing anyway
Well, that goes without saying... but there are awesome bands that do really really bad covers sometimes, and this is one of the exceptions, heh.

And thanks to the other guys for sending me things, you win a little something something for your help.

Yes they are. This and CoB's version of Aces High are the best covers I've ever heard.

I do miss the solo at the end... but it gives me a chance to play along so i do :D

I need some more In Flames. :( I only actually own Colony, but I love Whoracle, Clayman, and Reroute to Remain as well. Great stuff.

/late

But in the meantime I'm really in the mood for Dusk & Her Embrace.

I love that song...
They were one of the pioneers of the genre that is for sure. At The Gates started it, but Dark Tranquillity and In Flames perfected it imo. by far not generic, the bands who copy them are the generic ones.

I love Arcturus with a passion and same with Solefald, but I give In Flames a ton of respect right up there with my favorites due to them getting me into "real" metal so to say.

So if I had never heard them, I would probably have never heard of Arcturus and all these other bands. In Flames sparked my interest to get into heavier music and go on a quest to search for it pretty much.

So meh.
At The Gates did not start it Jason, Dark Tranquillity and Ceremonial Oath did, At The Gates formed in 1990, wheras Dark Tranquillity and Ceremonial Oath's first demos were in 1989.

Shadows 10-25-2005 01:33 PM

I would most definitely appreciate that Jom. :)

Haha, yeah, I just checked it. I could listen to that album over and over without end.

Wait, I've already done that!

Arucard 10-25-2005 01:46 PM

Can someone send me this Sonata cover?

Stoic 10-25-2005 03:36 PM

Heh, I've just seen some reviews written ShadowsFallen in MA. I didnt expect him to write such a review on the LoG album but anyways. Is anyone else an active member (has many points, writes reviews, posts in the forums etc)?

Symphonic Black metal/avant garde

iliketoplaydrums10111 10-25-2005 04:08 PM

Thanks

Bartender 10-25-2005 04:09 PM

Why do you need to know?

Arrakakaka 10-25-2005 04:10 PM

They used to be avant garde-metal with symphonic black metal influences. Yet as they progressed, they turned less and less black metal.

i am the robots 10-25-2005 04:17 PM

Yeah, and their non-black metalesque material is definately better, not because black metal sucks or anything, but because it's absolutely amazing.
it's not a matter of how much water is on you, but how long you have to suffer in the cold rain and wind. if its just rain then no problem, but it's October so c'mon
When it's October in So. Cal, it's not that bad. ;) But it does get cold sometimes.
Yeah, and their non-black metalesque material is definately better, not because black metal sucks or anything, but because it's absolutely amazing.
Even their early material, although slightly more conventional for their standards, certainly differed from the norm.

I found the entire Arcturus Discography (I only own LMI) at the store today, plus two Doomsword albums but instead I bought a Falkenbach one. Crime? I didnt know what to do :\
