I edited a comment about Katatonia in as well up there.

Also,

Retired; I gave Black Bile a listen. Quite good on the first listen. I was actually listening to Elysian Blaze prior to it and they are very similar in what they are doing. Some different tones there, I guess, but if you like Black Bile then you'd probably like Elysian Blaze as well. May I suggest you obtain Levitating The Carnal for more of that Black/Funeral Doom type stuff, with a little clearer production.
I really should check out early Katatonia. I keep seeing them come up in comparison to other things I listen to, but I've never given them a go besides The Great Cold Distance. I thought it was boring.
The new stuff is nothing like the old.
The old stuff (first album) is depresive black, the stuff after is doom/death and after that they evolved in to the more shoe gaze-ish/depressive rock sound they have now.
Dance Of December Souls and Brave Murder Day are highly recommended.

Shattered_Future 11-29-2007 07:32 AM

Call me crazy, but isn't shoegaze the complete opposite of what Katatonia sound like?

ATM 11-29-2007 07:34 AM
Hey ATM do you have Sons of Otis' split with Queen Elephantine?
No, any good?

Also, I love Church of Misery. I only have one album but I need more.
Listening to soe Forgotten Tomb.
I love the connections to early Katatonia and Burzum in the guitar work.
Damn tis **** is good.

Any other fans?

np: Forgotten Tomb - Todestrieb
I like them, and I even like the new one.

Not exactly the opposite, but they do have some shoegaze elements to their sound.
It's quite difficult to categorize the new Katatonia under just one genre. :-\

Pate:
I wasn't keen on the clean vocals on the new release.
You like them?

pate 11-29-2007 09:08 AM

I tend to just go with "good"

the2stranger 11-29-2007 09:46 AM

I was browsing through my music library for an album to play and stumbled upon Oktober Tide, it's been a while since I've played them.
Excellent music, especially with this weather/season.

np: 12 Days Of Rain

Too bad they broke up.

Anyway: I recieved some nice doom related CDs today:

Corrupted - Se Hace Por Los Suenos Asesinos
Fallen - A Tragedy's Bitter End (limited to 1000 copies :))

Txus 11-29-2007 12:59 PM

the2stranger 11-29-2007 01:10 PM

Good job.
:smoke:

I hadn't bought any CDs for some time, feels good to buy them now though.
Nothing like recieiving them, opening them up, smelling them, playing the CD and reading the lyrics/booklet.

the2stranger 11-29-2007 02:24 PM

There's always this special smell.
I can't help it.
I love smelling CDs. :p

NemesisDivina 11-29-2007 05:22 PM

Katatonia talk itt.

AWESOME!!

Dance of December Souls is absolutely amazing. It was playing over and over for quite some time on my computer/iPod. Anyone who doesn't have it, get it NOW.

TojesDolan 11-29-2007 05:29 PM

Do you like their newer albums as well?

NemesisDivina 11-29-2007 06:10 PM

I need to listen to them, I was only recently introduced to Katatonia.

Kage 11-29-2007 06:11 PM

Get on AIM then.

pate 11-29-2007 06:19 PM

Newer is better, despite how good the first two are.

Angmar 11-29-2007 09:22 PM

Guys one of my friends told me to listen to Pagan Altar, is this a good decision?

Nostalgia 11-29-2007 09:23 PM

Absolutely.

Angmar 11-29-2007 09:25 PM

Is there a certain album I should start with? Or should I just buck up and get everything.

I saw one of their albums get a review on MA and it sounded excellent.

pate 11-29-2007 09:31 PM

I only have Volume 1, and it's great. So I say start there.

And I'm assuming you already know and hail Witchfinder General, because if not, you should go to them first.

Slaapkamers 11-29-2007 09:33 PM

boobies

publicastration 11-30-2007 12:12 AM

So the new Worship is immense.

:)
Guys one of my friends told me to listen to Pagan Altar, is this a good decision?
Mythical & Magical is better then Volume One, 20 years of songwriting did these guys good.

Jondur 11-30-2007 04:39 AM

Well just to be awkward 'Lords of Hypocrisy' is my favourite!

*Controversial statement alert!*

I'd put Pagan Altar on a par with Witchfinder General!

Phototropic 11-30-2007 05:27 AM

yesterday i bought

Om - Pilgrimage
Neurosis - The Eye of every storm

digging both of what I've heard so far

had Om on before i went to sleep, was in my own little world for the first track and then a few minutes into the second track i almost farted a load out when it went super fuzzy loud!!

:p haha
