When spring comes go to nearest cow field or you could ask someone for d-lypsergic acid diethylamide it's not sold at your local pharmacy but you could always ask.....

Yes Schyma, I think Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds is a good song, too.

BlackDeathMetalJazz or really ANYTHING else please- 12-03-2005 09:14 PM

I couldn't help it btw. :p

I don't why the reporters even asked if "Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds" was about acid. All you have to do is listen to the song! I mean it's psychedelic as hell and it's describing a trip. If you truly believe that it's really about a picture that John's son drew then your a fool.

Lunch 12-03-2005 10:21 PM

Because reporters aren't smart/hippies.

"Oh by the way, which one's Pink?"

Seafroggys 12-03-2005 11:11 PM

I don't see why Lennon would lie about such things, I firmly believe that the song's idea originated from Julian's drawings. Whether a verse or two was dirived from a trip, well, I'm not passing judgement on that. Lennon was always pissed how people (the media, others in this thread, *cough* *cough*) distort the meanings of his songs.

Leper 12-04-2005 03:12 AM

Hence the spawning of I am the Walrus.

EDIT: I also firmly believe that it was based on Julian's drawings.
The bass in Twist and Shout is pretty cool!

Does anyone have the link to that And your bird can sing, when john and paul are just laughing wildly? It was posted in here a while ago! I can't find it though!
The song you are talking about was released on Anthology disk 2. I never saw it posted here, but if it was good luck looking for it. It's actually pretty funny. Paul wont stop laughing and John tries to hold them together.

magicbus 12-04-2005 06:37 PM

Walrus uploaded it a long time ago. But since that link has since expired, and YSI links aren't allowed anyways, I wouldn't recommend looking for it.

robo2448 12-04-2005 06:39 PM

I Want You (She's So Heavy) and Something have really cool bass too.

That version of And Your Bird Can Sing is hilarious. Great song too.

I also strongly believe that the origin of Lucy in the Sky with Diamond's was from Julian's drawing. I don't think John realized that Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds spelled LSD when he wrote the song. I think the drawing might have reminded John of a trip and so John might have incorporated details from trips in the lyrics but I am sure that it is based off of Julian's drawing. As Seafroggy's said, there wouldn't be any reason for John to lie about the meaning of the song, so I believe him.

El_Goodo 12-04-2005 08:17 PM

The song is about Julian's Drawing...and he also said he used some images from Alice in Wonderland didnt he?

Seafroggys 12-04-2005 08:46 PM

yeah, John used some influences from Alice in Wonderland, especially in I am the Walrus....

Leper 12-05-2005 12:38 AM

Alice in Wonderland?..What are some of the references? I can't really think of any at the moment...

/listens for references

Seafroggys 12-05-2005 01:14 AM

well there's a bit in alice and wonderland about "the walrus and the carpenter" thats enough of a connection right there

Leper 12-05-2005 01:34 AM

Oh yeah I guess there is...it's been so long since I've seen that movie.

clown_phobia 12-05-2005 01:36 AM

Yes - john did get "the walrus" from alice in wonderland, however he had made a mistake because the walrus was the bad guy and that's not what he meant to say.

Leper 12-05-2005 01:52 AM

I thought that fat queen was the villain..

W.M.A 12-05-2005 05:06 AM

it was the way in which john described how julian said "looks its lucy in the sky with diamonds" that most people found implausible. im pretty sure its about lsd.

isnt alice in wonderland bout been on some halluconigen newho.

Magical_Mystery_Tour 12-05-2005 05:51 PM

Hey I was reading the Beatles anthology book the other day, and it mentioned all this stuff talking about the theory that Paul had died and thats why they stopped touring and such. I looked for clues and it seems to be alot of them. No shoes on Abbey, Why he was standng backwards on the inside of Sgt. Peppers, Lines from A day in the Life and "I buired Paul" from Strawberry fields. It's pretty cool.

robo2448 12-05-2005 06:01 PM

It's sad that December 8th is known as Dimebag Darrell's deathday instead of John Lennon's now. No offense to Dimebag, but Lennon was much, much more important to music and the world in general, and his death was more tragic IMO. Shame... I should create a John Lennon thread.

This has been brought up a lot. I don't think Paul is dead, I think the Beatles kept egging on the theory for more sales for their records. There's proof that when that theory became public, record sales increased by a lot.

Pretty ingenious eh? If this had been brought up before, I apologize. I had just red it and that it was pretty cool.

But, yeah, I agree with what you said, John Lennon was more important to music. And go for it, make a Lennon thread.

Magical_Mystery_Tour 12-05-2005 08:04 PM

Don't create a Lennon thread. Then I would have to create a McCartney thread, and us Beatles fans would become divided. Lets just leave all the Beatles together in this thread and enjoy them here.

Well McCartney didn't die 25 years ago Thursday. So he doesn't deserve a tribute thread. I think I'll make a thread but I won't make it until Thursday (his actual death day).

blue3 12-05-2005 08:12 PM

You made one for George Harrison too, right?

Nice avatar. I've been listening to Rubber Soul alot lately. :thumb:

Carne Evil 12-05-2005 08:15 PM

All of the Beatles had interesting solo careers (Ringo not as much as the others, but you get my meaning). George really only came into his own when the Beatles broke up. So, I really don't see the problem with starting an "individual Beatle" thread since the post-beatle beatles were still interesting musicians.

robo2448 12-05-2005 08:16 PM
You made one for George Harrison too, right?
Yeah that flopped pretty badly. I've learned that people don't want to read paragraphs and paragraphs about somebody so I'll make my Lennon thread more concise.

dr._feelgood 12-05-2005 09:27 PM

I liked your George thread. I thought it was well worth the time it took to read.

I supose not. A thread to commemerate the life of John might not be a bad idea. It is a lfe worth commemerating.

Oh ya. Just got my new avatar. So happy. :p

MBS 12-06-2005 06:12 PM

I made an avatar like that, it was pretty sweet.
I made an avatar like that, it was pretty sweet.
I remember that. That was a pretty sweet avatar. How do you make those?

Somebody stole my Lennon thread idea:evil:. Led-Zeppelin made a really good thread though, and I'm just happy someone made it. I'm looking forward to a John tribute on Thursday. Too bad I have school on Friday, or I would be able to take the train into Strawberry Fields which is a small place in central park dedicated to John Lennon.

MBS 12-06-2005 06:23 PM
I remember that. That was a pretty sweet avatar. How do you make those?
Um, it was a long complicated process. Basically, I took a picture of the 4 beatles together, cropped them into their own seperate pictures, resized them into 70 x 70 and then used Photoshop to make a flipbook out of them.

If anyone wants to steal it.

Krabsworth 12-06-2005 06:26 PM

Ok, I finally adopted a Lennon avatar for remembrance.

This thread has already been established as a "Beatles and post-Beatles" thread. So, a tribute thread would be spiffy. But establishing a "Let's talk about Harrison's solo career!" thread wouldn't fly so much.
