Hey everyone
I've got a not bad day lined up today. Hopefully I'll be practicing with my band this afternoon for a few hours then im going to meet up with Coffee_Killer for a drink or two. What's everyone else up to today? |
Well... it's tonight over here. Well... I guess today. About 4:19. And I'm at work. Bored as hell. You Scott's and Aussie's need to get more people on here so we have more people to talk to. ****it. ;)
And when I come to Scotland, you, me, and Coffee are going to get piss drunk and pick fights with people on the street. Sound good? joe |

joe
haha, yeah sounds cool man. Just don't forget to bring the G&L with you ;) |
haha, yeah sounds cool man.
Just don't forget to bring the G&L with you ;)
The G&L goes everywhere ;) Although I'd be affraid to let you guys play it. There's nothing worse than getting pwned by someone else on your own instrument :amaze: joe |
meh, just hide it from Coffee and it'll be all good.
 |
Yeah. I'll be like
"Yeah, the trem is cool, but I really haven't found how to implement it into my playing style yet." :hands bass to Coffee: :Coffee commences the *** kicking: :joe is ashamed: :Coffee laughs: :joe is still ashamed: joe |
^^ That's happened to me twice with my fretless; one with my old music teacher, one with my tennis instructor.

we should also have a north east england gathering! all meet up at zenderquais house (:D) and take our basses, then ill get pwned by ben and his lovely schecter, then ill get him drunk and steal it!
Im learning fretless at the moment, anyone got any tips on how to get a smoother playing style? (eg. accuracy, tone) and how do i do something about the amount of pressure you use changes the sound or something? |
^^ Just practice a lot. Accuracy isn't something learned... Teen Town and YYZ helped me on accuracy. Try those.
And we should have a Puerto Rico gathering... All 2 of us :(. |
Mm I'll be in London by then so maybe I'll head up.
Before I converted my 1st bass to fretless I took a tip from Jaco and played the bass by fretting on top of each fret. It's pretty difficult to do but once you get that accurate there's no problem going to fretless. |
I never had a problem with that, for some reason...
|
yeah, thats what ive been doing it, i gave in to the horrible urge to put my roundwounds back on it, when it doesnt have any type of finish on yet... it sounds great already though! :D i can do the harmonics sliding thing aslwell! it sounds pretty cool!
morpcat, are you a sound engineer or something? if so, how much education did you have to do? (eg. college then uni) |
LR - it's called "MIDI to Wave Recorder?"
I tried two other programs today. One of them said it couldn't initialize the sound card, which sort of confused me, as I've messed (mind you, barely) with MIDIs before and had no problem. The other turned out to be for Keyboard only, though it had said it was an all purpose MIDI recorder. MIDI is obviously not my forte. :p
It's called Midi2Wav Recorder (had to go look it up) it can be found at download.com LR |
Hi everyone, well i'm pretty new round these parts so I just thought I'd say hello, I'm new here but I've been playing bass a couple of years now, and I'm allright, nothing like some of the guys on here but I'm ok, just starting learning some Jaco and I've got PoT and most of Chromatic Fantasy down, so I'm round that sorta level playingwise, so yeah I just thought I'd introduce myself.
And for the record I have a pretty awful Squire P-Bass, but I have no money for anything better, being 15 and out of a job, so it'll have to do for now! |
^^^^ cool! welcome to the forum! remember to read the rules page at the top :thumb:
i dont know why, but i just can never get into any jaco, i like jazz, and i respect him as a musician and his music but i just dont feel the need to listen to him or learn his songs... weird, anyone else like this? |
AllWrong:
Welcome! And join the "I have freakin' Squier and I hate it but can't afford anything else yet" club. The main difference is... technically, I'm old enough to be your mom, have TWO jobs, and still can't buy a new bass! We'll just have to soldier on with what we have, eh? :D Jamie: Myself being a newbie bassist and never having heard of Jaco until I came here... all the talk about him has really turned me off. I have no interest in him or any desire to learn anything he did. You're not alone. :thumb: |

If I wan't to listen to jazz, I'd much rather lisen to the "Trane", I just don't like listening toharmonics or people playing that fast.... not relaxing at all...... |
^^^^ yeah, exactly. good for improving your chops though!
|
Of course.... So is the "Trane" if you improv according to the chord progression.... The songs are so long.....
|
:D ive got my mums credit card.... hmm... lets see... one conklin gt7, one fender american jazz, a mesa head, an swr 4x10 and a 1x15....
oh, and my fender flatwounds and an adapter! :D |
ok, so im looking at the tab for amazing grace by jaco: http://www.mxtabs.net/tabs.php?path=Bass,j,6090,Jaco+Pastorius,Amazing+Grace,59124
it says its all harmonics, im playing this on my fretless, and there is no harmonics on frets such as the 3rd and 2nd... any help?! |

Yes, there are harmonics on fret three, and two. 3rd harmonics aren't too hard to get, but 2nd can be a real bitch.
|
That song can get to be a bitch after awhile..... I haven't tried to play it in a long time.... (gets out tab and fretless)
|
Holy ****! I just looked for my tabs in my garage, where I keep all of my bass stuff, and the only tabs there were weezer tabs from my first month of playing..... where the hell did they go?
|
^^^ so how do i get em?
there ya go paul, ordered for you! i also got you a nice big van for all your gear :) |
haha :D weezer! A: 0 0 2 3 ....

wow.... I just tried to record harmonics on my comp... and it sounds like a bunch of farts..... wtf?
|
Harmonics always record better on my computer for some reason, guess its cos they aren't so low. Are you using a mic or a line in though?
|
I'm going DI... Its better now, my bass is turned down so low that if I put it into an amp you wouldn't be able to hear it...
|
mine sound pretty good on comp (line in)
|
Sorry, this probably gonna make me sound like a fool but DI?
