CKY is a cool band with a unique sound, but Bam Margera can go die already.

Robert Crumb 05-28-2005 10:20 PM

More soul than a sock with a hole.

Shout it Out 05-28-2005 11:31 PM

Shotgun Messiah

Swedish glam/sleaze metal band. Early stuff is real good.

br3ad_man 05-28-2005 11:34 PM

I'm liking Deltron 3030 a lot.

Luxor 05-28-2005 11:39 PM

I've only heard one Deltron 3030 song, but it was good.

Today I listened to: The Dismemberment Plan, Taken, The Roots, Tegan & Sara, Explosions In The Sky and DCFC. It was a good day, with some decent music alongside.

pixiesfanyo 05-29-2005 06:34 AM

Omar's solo cd.
And Eno & Budd

Little Man being Erased 05-29-2005 03:56 PM

Weekend listening:

Björk - Vespertine
The Walkmen - Bows + Arrows
The Beach Boys - Pet Sounds
...And You Will Know Us By The Trail Of Dead - Worlds Apart
Beck - Guero
Daft Punk - Homework

And this morning it's been Elliott Smith - XO

incubliss 05-29-2005 04:23 PM

been listening to Mic City Songs by Heitmeiser.

it's the band Elliott Smith was in before parting ways and going solo, and it's rather grand. worth checking out if you like Elliott.

it's not really the same style as his solo stuff, but basically a full band behind him, electric guitar etc etc. it's great.

trev913 05-29-2005 05:05 PM

Some cuts from Santana's "Abraxas" album are about to take a spin.

Edit: grammar

Happymeal 05-29-2005 05:33 PM

to Stereolab fans: I've been meaning to listen to them for some time but don't know where to start. Help plz. Is their b-sides collection that was released recently any good?

Little Man being Erased 05-29-2005 05:37 PM

So I heard the new Foo Fighters single ("Best of You") the other day and I was quite impressed. I'll be very interested to hear the new album now.

Yeah, I like the new single. I reckon it'll be a very interesting album, with the acoustic section and all.

Today, I've listened mainly to Flaming Lips, Mogwai and Mission of Burma.

ATM 05-29-2005 07:23 PM

Radiohead rarities, thanks to JonM.

Luxor 05-29-2005 07:28 PM

Is Vs. a good place to start with Mission Of Burma?

Bartender 05-29-2005 07:54 PM

I've been listening to Mr Bungle - California a lot today. Then at one point I was too lazy to restart the album, so it ran on and I also dug Murder By Death's Like the Exorcist, but More Breakdancing and Who Will Survive and What Will Be Left of Them.

incubliss 05-29-2005 08:05 PM

i love that Murder by Death album. :)

do you like Cursive Bartender, cause on The Ugly Organist, they had an addition to the band line up, a girl play cello. i love the addition, really added a difference. you might like that album, and it reminded me of Murder by Death due to the cello-ness.

Bartender 05-29-2005 08:21 PM

I've not heard them, actually. I've seen lots of talk about them and never bothered to follow it up.

incubliss 05-29-2005 08:31 PM

you should definately check them out. they aren't really like Murder by Death at all, just the cello.

it's a very great album.

Tapeworm 05-30-2005 01:15 AM
Is Vs. a good place to start with Mission Of Burma?
I got Signals, Calls and Marches first and it worked, But I'm sure that Vs. is a good place to start as well.

Get Domestica.

It owns The Ugly Organ by 10000000000.

Well_Respected_Man 05-30-2005 03:14 PM

Daggage
Gong - Angel's Egg
Gong - You
Pretty Things - SF Sorrow
Joy Division - Still
Gorillaz - Demon Days
Mojo Compliations

Iai 05-30-2005 04:26 PM

Nick Drake - Five Leaves Left
Joni Mitchell - Blue

Since I picked them both up in HMV's sale today. I also got MOJO, which came with a CD called 'U2 Jukebox'. It's got some pretty obvious new stuff that U2 like (The Arcade Fire, Interpol, The Futureheads), but it also has Suicide, Pere Ubu, and Echo & The Bunnymen, so it was an interesting listen.

I have been listening to M83, gotta love it.

rad

Zappa 05-30-2005 07:57 PM

Listening to Primus for the first time in a LOOOONG time. I somehow became a Claypool hater almost overnight for no reason. Sailing the Seas of Cheese, which is what I am currently listening to, is a **** good record, though.

It's probably my fault for bringing all the Claypool fanboys to the surface with my bassists poll. Sorry man.

Zappa 05-30-2005 08:24 PM

Naw, my hatin' on Claypool is an old thing. It's probably been a year since I listened to the band, now.

Bartender 05-30-2005 08:27 PM

I'm not really a fan of Primus. They seem to be determined to be quirky and weird, just for the sake of being quirky and weird, and it pisses me off mightily. The occasional song I don't mind though, and there's some good musicians in the band.

Anyway, my main album for the day has been Solomon Burke - Don't Give Up On Me.

Zappa 05-30-2005 08:28 PM

No worries, guys. I'm listening to Sinatra now.

Bartender 05-30-2005 08:53 PM

And now that you've said that, so am I.

Zappa 05-30-2005 08:56 PM

But alas, I'm on to Leonard Cohen.

Well it's hard to be quirky and weird on accident, isn't it? There are so many eccentric musicians who could easily write great pop songs but choose to expand the limits of music instead. In fact, Primus is probably one of the few bands that COULDN'T be really poppy because of Les' voice and the overwhelming bass in the mix.

But that's just my thoughts on it.

Anyway, my brother's playing some Dead Kennedys and I forgot that they're pretty good. Anyone here like 'em?

Bartender 05-30-2005 09:38 PM
Well it's hard to be quirky and weird on accident, isn't it?
Well yeah, but what I meant is that they always struck me as being quirky and weird with the intention that people will listen to them on the basis that they're so weird and wacky. They may well not be, but as long as it appears to me that they are, it annoys me :)
Anyway, my brother's playing some Dead Kennedys and I forgot that they're pretty good. Anyone here like 'em?
I only know Fresh Fruit For Rotting Vegetables, but it's a fine album.
Well you can keep Leonard Cohen. When I get started on Sinatra I tend to be listening to him for quite a while.

I downloaded that Varese song you uploaded a few days ago, by the way, so I've finally heard something by him, at least. Thanks for uploading it.

Robert Crumb 05-30-2005 09:50 PM

I tried to download the Varese song. It got stuck at 97%, mocking me like a thing that mocks people who are very close to getting something only to be stymied at the last second. I'll try again.

I'm currently digging a mix I made for myself the other day.
