art tatum - complete capitol recordings

recordings of a jazz pianist i think mainly from the '40s or '50s although that could be embarrassingly wrong--the dude is completely fucking amazing. i would suggest this highly even to those who don't like piano/jazz music. his playing is so technically complex and intricate and weird that it's a total blast to listen to. youtube some of his shit and you'll see.

robertsona 06-08-2011 10:52 AM

been listening to a lot of brian eno, tangerine dream, klaus schulze, jean-michel jarre etc.

i really like that 80s sort of cheap analog synth-y ambient stuff that sounds nicely antiquated. i also really like the people who are currently carrying on that trend, like emeralds and oneohtrix point never. i got into those dudes first so it was really exciting to hear that earlier stuff from the 80s is just as good.

anyone have any suggestions for stuff in that vein?

DBlitz 06-08-2011 11:46 AM

i would say check out Steve Roach - Structures from Silence, since it's ambient and it's from the '80s. but i'm not sure if it's what you're after. still worth a listen though, it's just soothing, relaxing ambient.
