Dumb down the bitrate?

I_WEAR_RED_PANTS 01-13-2009 06:48 AM

how does one dumb down the bitrate?

big80smullet 01-13-2009 06:51 AM

vaccinate it so it gets autism

gaslight 01-13-2009 06:54 AM

When you go "save as mp3" you should have options to choose the bitrate. It can be as low as 32kbps but that sounds crap for anything except simple talking. For music the minimum for decent quality is like 128kbps, 320kbps is the highest quality usually for mp3 audio. The files take up space accordingly.

I disagree with 128 kbps being a good minimum as it sounds like crap to me, 192 kbps is about where my cutoff point is most of the time unless a track is percussion heavy.

V2 and V0 rips ftw

big80smullet 01-13-2009 07:15 AM

metal up your ***

gaslight 01-13-2009 07:18 AM

You can get by with 128 it just isn't brilliant.

I_WEAR_RED_PANTS 01-13-2009 07:18 AM

i'll do it tomorrow after i record the solos for the song

gaslight 01-13-2009 07:19 AM

I_WEAR_RED_PANTS 01-13-2009 07:32 AM
You can get by with 128 it just isn't brilliant.
You can but I hear irritating artifacts in the sound 70% of the time and sharper frequencies seem "damp" around the edges at 128 kbps. This stops being a big issue around 192 kbps I find, to a very small one.

The production of the song and the quality of the equipment it is being listened through is really the determining factor of whether it will bother people though.

big80smullet 01-13-2009 08:25 AM

yeah i have a FoT rip thats 128 and it sounds like ***

gaslight 01-13-2009 08:36 AM

The point I'm trying to make is if he needs to put his song at 128kbps just to get it on soundclick, it isn't the end of the world.

Meatplow 01-13-2009 08:50 AM

supposedly results in some odd static in the track, so cool

gaslight 01-13-2009 09:15 AM

I've always figured you make those by starting with the picture and coding it backwards, pretty cool trick.

That's hell clever that formula trick. Chu would love it.
