Being the whore that I am though, I had to pounce on the opportunity to mention Austere in this thread.

Tyler 12-02-2007 07:47 PM

I take it they're Australian?

dUSK 12-02-2007 07:48 PM

What makes you think that?

:upset:

Angmar 12-02-2007 07:48 PM

Well it's not really a good cover, it's just a forest, and in the past I have liked a lot of forest covered albums, so idk.

Bergtatt ftw. :)

I'm guessin Austere are good?

Tyler 12-02-2007 07:50 PM

You're always spreading word about Aussie bands so I just assumed.

dUSK 12-02-2007 07:54 PM

Well yeah, they're Australian. I'm actually trying to lay off that in threads like this at the moment though. I figure you guys must get tired of my fanboyism (though it can't be worse than a lot of the crap that ends up in here  ).
I'm guessin Austere are good?
I'm digging it at the moment, to be honest. They're one of those depressive type bands, but it's done quite well. Lo-fi basement sounding, but mixed clearly beneath the haze. The vocals might shit a lot of people off though, as they just wail away for the majority of it. I can link to a song excerpt if you like.

Tyler 12-02-2007 08:11 PM

So the Black Lotus was great, I really liked it. Kind of reminded me of a mix between Bergtatt and Two Hunters, only unlike the latter they dont bullshit and keep you waiting for like 10 minutes at a time.

Listening to While Sad Spirits Around Me Stroll and while the idea of instrumental black metal seemed interesting, I don't see this holding my interest. I'm only on the first track though and I'm listening through speakers at a relatively low volume.

Care to link me to where you found this?

My observations were based on one listen though, so just be aware of that. Wasn't 100% focused but really liked what I heard.

dUSK 12-02-2007 08:15 PM

Wtf I must spread some rep.

Thanks though.

pffft neither of those albums bullshit around :o

This sounds great though, could you hook me up on AIM?

EDIT: nevermind, thanks!

I just meant Two Hunters dicks around. I like it, but it falls short of Diadem for me. It just feels like a dragged out extension of the last album.

Slaapkamers 12-02-2007 08:35 PM

half of diadem is a dragged out extension of itself

rattlehead42147 12-02-2007 08:58 PM

/nods at slaap's post.

i really hate how the first track is just forest sounds. i get it, they love the forest, but i think that whole "forest atmosphere" thing is really, really overdone at this point.

edit: that dumah blog has come in handy on many occasions.

I think they really came into their own with Two Hunters. Diadem seems like Weakling with touches of Agalloch (the folk influence and the whole "nature" thing), but they really set themselves apart with Two Hunters.

AA-12 12-02-2007 09:04 PM

They went from boring to boring but listenable for a minute.

Tyler 12-02-2007 09:04 PM

Diadem doesnt sound much like Weakling at all.

Two Hunters is probably more refined but it's too similar, I dont know. It never clicked; I'm still willing to accept that it's better but it's not happening.
edit: that dumah blog has come in handy on many occasions.
I dont use it, I found out about the album elsewhere and needed another link.

rattlehead42147 12-02-2007 09:05 PM

i don't have "go-to" blogs or whatever but i've often come across that one after looking everywhere else and found something i wanted.

I'm trying to decide which one I like more. Diadem has some awkward moments, especially in Shimmering Radiance where there's 3 (I think) riffs that are completely "wtf were they thinking?". Also some of the drony parts drag if I'm not in the right mood, which never happens when I listen to Two Hunters. Also, I think the solemnity on Two Hunters is more sincere than on Diadem; Diadem didn't really capture me the same way.

Edit: uhhh, I think I just figured out which one I liked more >_<

it'd be a lot worse if it did.

i am the robots 12-02-2007 10:42 PM

I'm sure you've actually heard both of them, too.

Aakon_Keetreh 12-02-2007 10:43 PM

I <3 summoning.

Anyone who doesn't should be cast into the fires of Mount Doom!

Aakon_Keetreh 12-02-2007 10:46 PM

Hahaha. Oh dude, hell yea. Summoning is excellent on so many levels.

Angmar 12-02-2007 10:48 PM

And Silenius is one of the most underrated black metal vocalists around, just listening to him on "The Rotting Horse on the Deadly Ground" gives me chills.

i have. i hate Weakling.
I <3 summoning.
Summoning are one of the few bands who do epic music justice.

Aakon_Keetreh 12-02-2007 10:50 PM

Ved Buens Ende is great too.

Okay, here:

*I have, I hate *weaklings.

But seriously, what does that sentence have to do with anything?

rattlehead42147 12-02-2007 11:09 PM

seriously that wasn't even funny. you said i hadn't heard either of them. them being WITTR and Weakling. i have. i hate Weakling.

AA-12 12-02-2007 11:10 PM

uhhh
Weakling is one of the best bm bands around right now
