What movie is it? Charlie and the Chocolate factory?

I loved him in Blazing Saddles. Such a shame about Gilda :upset:

Indeed, great movie, great actor.

*clears throat* The Beatles=no talent. As I've said many times before bad teeth and haircuts and stupid love songs that make no sense...thank you.

So are you kidding around? Or are you serious? How should I break down this post.

I guess you're an idiot.

Illmatic 08-23-2005 01:22 PM

His whole basis for this is that because Avenged Sevenfold is supposedly more talented technically than them, they suck.

It doesn't make any sense at all to me, but then again I'm a pretty smart guy.

Dude, you've already raised a stink in the FF thread. Please don't come to my thread making ridiculously ignorant statements.

JonG 08-23-2005 02:07 PM
1. Their teeth and haircuts have no bearing on their music.

2. They didn't write stupid love songs. Their earlier albums were largely based around love songs and covers, true (although they pretty much revolutionised the purpose of albums from being backups to the single). By Help! their songwriting was really maturing, and moving away from the stereotype you're talking about.

3. No talent? You've got to be kidding me. Phil Collins, drummer of prog band Genesis is on record as saying that Ringo Starr did stuff that drummers now would find very hard to imitate. Paul McCartney was proficient in multiple instruments and revolutionised the role of the bass guitar in modern music. George Harrison is renowned as having one of the best feels for his instrument of the '60s era of music.

Please, don't make that your last post in the thread by the way...it's gotten boring over the last few weeks, and this could be quite fun.
ohshi owned.

What a stupid thing to say, that the Beatles have no talent

Hey thanks :thumb:

DeusExMachina 08-23-2005 02:21 PM

When does Paul's tour actually start? I can't wait to hear opinions. I will most likely write a brief review of the show after I go.

BludgeonySteve 08-24-2005 01:48 PM

Me too. He's done very well in the few performances he's given in the last little while. I'm excited to see him.

rockinbass17 08-25-2005 10:25 AM

4th page? bump.

I've heard his Back in the USA live album and it was pretty good. He even did well at th superbowl, so I think his new tour will be a good one.

MBS 08-25-2005 12:20 PM

Yeah Back in the US is a really good album, I enjoy it a lot. You forgot to mention he was phenomenal during Live 8. Except when he sang just the last bit of Hey Jude for 7 minutes. He could have done the whole song.

MBS 08-25-2005 01:21 PM
He was incredible at Live 8...his opening the show with U2 was so good, especially as they'd barely rehearsed it apparently, but the best song he did was easily Helter Skelter. I'm a massive fan of that song, and just the way that it's so intense compared to some of the band's other work, but the way he did it live was amazing. His drummer was going completely mental as well.
His drummer was amazing in that song. Everytime they zoomed in on him, he had this face of just built of rage during the "When I get to the bottom I go back to the top of the slide..." and the finally when that ended he just went nuts on everything.

I didn't like the Long and Winding Road. I was really looking foward to it, but it was kind of a dissapointment.

What other songs did he play?

Seafroggys 08-25-2005 02:12 PM

I missed live 8. I wanted to see Who, PInk FLoyd, and Paul McCartney, especially the song Helter Skelter. He really needs to play that on his next tour!

Jacaranda 08-25-2005 02:16 PM

Live 8 :(

My story on that was I recorded it cause I was visting Grandma and right when the Who came on and I heard the opening of Won't Get Fooled Again, if I remember correctly, the tape stopped because it was full and didn't record Pink Floyd or the Who or Paul. I was pissed.

I was on vacation while it was on, so I missed it too. Fortunately, there is www.aolmusic.com which I use to watch the performances whenever I want.

I Like.....

- I REALLY like the older Beatles more than the earlier Beatles. Like all the albums "Let It Be", "Sargent Pepper", "The White Album", "Magical Mystery Tour", "Abbey Road" and so on.

Relmar'd 08-25-2005 07:38 PM

Im looking for a concert the Beatles perfomed, though I cant take any pictures of mpegs. If any of you have Anthology, its on Disc 2... at 58:10, with George performing Roll Over Beethoven.

I can describe the set as very well lighted, it has a white floors and white rims around the audience. I have only found 2 performances, the Beethoven one and Cant Buy Me Love. I would love to know what concert/show and where I could buy the full one.

BludgeonySteve 08-25-2005 08:49 PM

That doesn't make sense. Older means earlier. You mean the later Beatles. And I agree with you.

MBS 08-26-2005 12:44 AM
We got Get Back, which was kind of cool, Drive My Car which he dueted with George Michael (formerly of Wham! on), which was surprisingly good, Helter Skelter, Long And Winding Road and a semi-version of Hey Jude. I'd say Long And Winding Road was the worst song out of those, although I never liked it as a song in itself to begin with. I doubt he would have played it (seriously, Let It Be was made for a show like Live 8), but Geldof asked him to because it was meant to kick off the start of people heading up to Edinburgh.
Ah yes, thanks for refreshing my memory. Get Back was good. Drive My Car was excellent, Helter Skelter you already have my opinion on :p. I stand by my opinion that The Long and Winding Road was a dissapointment. I wished he could have played the whole Hey Jude instead of just the "Na-na-na-nananana's" because what he played at the Super Bowl was fantastic.
Yeah, that confused me too. But I'm sure most people agree in this thread. Later Beatles was just when they got way more creative.

BludgeonySteve 08-26-2005 12:46 AM

Yep. Although their earlier stuff was great too.

MBS 08-26-2005 01:09 AM

Totally, I think "All My Loving", "We Can Work It Out" are all great songs.

Jacaranda 08-26-2005 01:12 AM

We Can Work It Out is a Pop music master piece I heard it for the first time in about a year about 3 weeks ago and it made me remember that post '65 wasn't their only time of good music.

123.

It's a really fun song to play on guitar, too. :)

DeusExMachina 08-27-2005 09:50 AM

I love the Beatles early stuff.

Is it just me, or does McCartney's drummer seem really out of place?

Distant Echoes 08-27-2005 01:32 PM

I think he has a good drummer. Seemed a bit out of place the first time I seen him (Live 8), but I think he's worthy. Making playing look really intense though...good show.

My local radio station is doing Beatles A-Z this weekend. Their playing every beatles song every recoded in alphabetical order, they started on friday at 3:00 and finished saturday at 1:00 (w/ commercials). Their stating again saturday at 6:00, its really sweet.

Occasionally I would follow the songs they were doing on my mp3 player since it organizes it all alphabetically, and apperently Im missing one beatles album, but i dont know which one. Its defintaly early, but i cant find a decent discography without singles/vinyl/Greatest hits/random crap tied in to just regular studio albums. but Im doing better then i thought....

DeusExMachina 08-28-2005 08:39 AM
When I saw Macca, he introduced the band gradually. After he introduced the drummer, the drummer stood up and started yelling, "Are you ready to raaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaackkkk?" Scary stuff.
That's what I mean. He's a good drummer and all, does a good Ringo impression, but he just seems out of place. He's the kind of drummer I'd expect to see in a heavy metal band, not in Paul McCartney's band.

robo2448 08-28-2005 10:38 AM

I watched A Hard Days Night last night  It was awesome. I think I like Help more though. I then started reading The Beatles Anthology again, and got hooked on it. I loved reading about their time in Hamburg, when John would get drunk, go up on stage in his underwear and a toilet seat around his neck, and call the audience fucking Nazis

My favorite Beatles song right now is I Should Have Known Better. I need to buy A Hard Day's Night (the cd).
