I dunno though, it always seemed that Christian music was EXCEPTIONALLY lame. Even comparing bands on the radio, the Christian ones always are a lot more boring in my eyes.
attn current r&mers: your opinions on genres you don't listen to are invalid can we please have at least ONE thread that isn't people going, "omfg true metal, omfg true metal," honestly. |
i guess its true that the music on the radio is meant for worshiping purposes. at least they can do is make it more fun to listen to instead the same style over and over again, not that ill listen to it anyway even though im a christian.

1 Up-front/Blatant Worship/Praise. Non-Christians find this stuff instantly boring, as they have absolutely no way to relate to it. And Christians are generally too used to this stuff. Really, unless they have been Christians for a long time and truthfully have come a long way, Christians usually benefit from music of the next category more (although worship and praise is necessary and good for them)
This kind of music invariably blows, for whatever reason. Probably because everyone with actual songwriting talent is off writing something more artistically interesting. |
Anyone listen to Virgin Black? Requiem - Mezzo Forte would be a pretty good album to check out if you're into a symphonic doom-ish kind of thing.
|
flyleaf is the ****
check them out peace out homiez |
flyleaf is the ****
check them out peace out homiez
Flyleaf is not Christian. They used to have ties to a Christian label/distributor, and some of the members are Christian, but they can't really be classified as a "Christian band" anymore. Most of thier lyrics aren't explicitely Christian, they aren't on a Christian label, and as far as I know, they don't qualify for Dove Awards (for those of you who don't know, this is the Christian music awards for specifically Christian music). |
flyleaf suck anyway, for me they do
|
Flyleaf was never good.
|
The singer is fun to look at though.

As I Lay Dying anybody? they kinda deny the tag but if u read the lyrics and interviews its all very spiritual

not a big fan of AILD though... i heard the new album is their best. *shrug* -Sixner |
Their new album is the most LISTENABLE out of anything they've written, yes.

Christian music can, for the most part, be sorted into three categories: 1 Up-front/Blatant Worship/Praise. Non-Christians find this stuff instantly boring, as they have absolutely no way to relate to it. And Christians are generally too used to this stuff. Really, unless they have been Christians for a long time and truthfully have come a long way, Christians usually benefit from music of the next category more (although worship and praise is necessary and good for them) 2 Music that is generally easier for Christians and non-Christians to identify with. "Down-to-earth", or at least not quite as eager or slap-happy/respectfully mournful. Usually less conservative lyrics, and more stuff that non-Christians can/will get a hold of. Still made by Christians for the glory of God, but not necessarily a form of worship. Quite often this is music that relates with different aspects of the Christian journey. 3 Music like number 2, but with loose but existant ties to Christianity, made by a Christian band, or a band composed primarily of Christians. I'm sure most (all) of the Christian music most of you guys actually enjoy would be number 2 or 3.
I play a good bit of Christian music so i do appreciate even the first category of music you described.. unfortunately i do not think that playing it will improve my technical skills so much and hence i do not spend too much time in that.. Christian music is a unique blend of its own and should not attempt to draw upon the influences of rock acts today.. metal acts, however, seem to be pretty much influenced by early Christian music in many ways.. so yay to Christian metal! Just listened to this Christian metal band Blindside from sweden.. and i thought they sounded pretty impressive! |

I agree with all my heart. |

Anyone know some good christian bands on the Eastern (mid-coast) of the US? smaller-esque bands... small or no label bands.
-Sixner |
http://www.purevolume.com/thisrunsthrough
But they broke up. :( Why does label size matter though? I'm trying to get a Christian metalcore band started. |
i ask because i travel with a local christian act. They're on a small label now but are getting looked at by some bigger ones..
anyways, basically just wanna talk to a few other good christian bands, exchange some show's n' such.. that kind of thing. Its easier to do a show with a smaller-labeled band typically. Unless you know them or have a connection. -Sixner |
