I just listened to Korn's version of Another Brick In The Wall on AOL Music. I'd have to say that its really good. If you wanna watch it, here's the link.

MBS 12-08-2005 09:50 PM

I feel they ruined the whole feel of the song with the vocals. Instead of eerie vocals it was WE DONT NEED NO EDUCATION!!!

That didn't fly by me at all.

Yield 12-08-2005 09:53 PM

I thought that it was fine considering the kind of stuff Korn does. I like the original floyd versions, but the variation is kinda cool to listen too to see how other bands think of them.

robo2448 12-08-2005 09:55 PM

I think the cover's terrible. Sorry, I've just never been a Korn fan at all. I agree with MBS that they completely ruined the feel of the song. Now a cover shouldn't just be a copy of the song, you should try to add your own touch to it IMO. I don't like what Korn did with it at all though.
Get Animals first. Also get The Wall before Saucerful Of Secrets.
Whats wrong with Saucerful Of Secrets?

Mr. M, Man of Muzak 12-08-2005 11:08 PM

Its mediocre for one thing

First, sorry you listened to it.

Second, I'm sorry you're deaf... But there are a lot of people who are deaf that live normal lives.
Whats wrong with Saucerful Of Secrets?
It's not as accessible as other albums in my opinion.

/hasn't posted here in awhile :)

DeusExMachina 12-09-2005 09:22 AM

Don't like that cover.

Gilmour's voice pwns Waters' voice.

Animals > SOS.

Amongst other CDs, I got Roger Waters - The Wall: Live in Berlin today.

DeusExMachina 12-09-2005 12:33 PM

How is it? I really enjoyed Is There Anybody Out There? but I'm a bit skeptical of the Wall being performed by Roger and a bunch of guest musicians.

Mr. M, Man of Muzak 12-09-2005 12:41 PM

I havent listened to it yet, im ripping all the CDs first.

LF96 12-09-2005 02:15 PM

What album is Careful With That Axe, Eugene on? I always thought it was on A Saucerful Of Secrets, but I just had a closer look at the tracklist and it's not on there...
I know there's a live version on Ummagumma, but I'm searching for the studio version.

Awesome song by the way.

Mr. M, Man of Muzak 12-09-2005 02:19 PM

There isnt a studio version. It may be on a compilation album though.

LF96 12-09-2005 02:25 PM

I have a version on my pc which doesn't sound live at all. Oh well, maybe it's just played really good. I think it's studio tho. I'd upload it, but this site won't let me...

Mr. M, Man of Muzak 12-09-2005 02:28 PM

It is on Relics. A studio version isnt on any normal Pink Floyd albums though.

rippa32 12-09-2005 07:40 PM

^ I was about to say that. Careful with that axe is awesome imo. Too bad about Saucerful of Secrets, I really like Set The Controls For The Heart Of The Sun.

Mhmm...that's cool. So I guess he's putting the Pink Floyd reunion on hold for the moment. But it's good to here David's at work these days.

I'll definately see him perform if he comes to my city.

magicbus 12-09-2005 11:21 PM

Good new :)

And then I saw Robert Wyatt's name :upset:

On the subject, I have always like AMLOR and TDB quite a lot.. Which I know was mostly Gilmours work, but I have never gave a second look at his solo work.. Should I take a look considering I liked the post Waters stuff?

moaner 12-10-2005 05:07 AM

Any guitarists in here like to write the second half for an FA style thing on Dave Gilmour?

I've done Start - Animals, but I'm really not the guy to be writing about anything past then.

You can Also feel free to add to what I've done already, If I'm free to do so to your half. It can be a joint effort.

Do you have his self-titled solo-album? If no, check that out, it's really good.I haven't heard his About Face album but from what I've heard about it, it's rather bad.

I enjoy both guitarists' music, but I find David Gilmour's playing and singing to be more expressive and his songwriting reaches out to me more.

Pink Floyd are the most mianstream band I listen to on a regular basis, and I seldom listen to anyting post-WYWH.

Am I a mainstream whore?

magicbus 12-11-2005 05:09 PM

I think that. Therefore your theory is disproved.

Agreed. I like the solo too. In fact, it's usually the first thing I play when I pick up a new guitar and try it out.

That makes no sense. Gilmour > Syd on guitar by FAR and almost everyone you ask would say they prefer his voice over Syd's, as well as song writing.

Either that or Gilmour is just a much better guitar player than Barrett.

No way. I've listened to Floyd for years. Old and new. And Gilmour is definitely the better guitar all around.

Danger Bird 12-11-2005 06:08 PM
Yeah, no offence to Barrett but anyone who thinks he's a better guitarist than Gilmour is trying to be "different" for the sake of it. No way. Look, you can make as big a fuss about technical ability as you want but the the main artistic change from Barrett to Gilmour was that Gilmour's music was just more commercial.

The bolded statements are what I was thinking when I first read that "Gilmour>Barrett=mainstream" theory.

Echoes, Shine On You Crazy Diamond, Mudmen, Any Colour You Like, etc. were hardly "commercial".

That doesn't change that fact that Gilmour>Barrett.
